Clouds in association with WAA over the plains have filled in over
much of southern WI. Expect these clouds to linger today, with a
few breaks from time to time. There are light returns on the radar
to our west, but these are likely not reaching the ground owing to
some dry air in place. We'll remain dry until low pressure
approaches from the northwest tomorrow.

Today:
We have some stubborn low ceilings and patchy fog lingering across
southern WI early this morning. This will dissipate quickly as
soon as the winds increase in the wake of a cold front. The main
story today is gusty northwest winds, especially toward Sheboygan.
The cold air advection is not very strong, so our high temps
should manage to get in to the upper 30s to around 40 this
afternoon.
Winds will be light tonight with high pressure overhead. Look for
mid level clouds to spread in. It will be dry in the low levels,
but there is a slight chance for snow toward central WI overnight
associated with the warm air advection/frontogenesis out ahead of
the low pressure approaching from the Northern Plains.
Look for increasing southeast winds Sunday morning. There should
be decent enough lapse rates to allow for some mixing into the
high winds just above the surface in the low level jet, so expect
gusty winds up to 30 mph or more, especially late morning/midday.
Warm air advection and increasing moisture just above the surface
should allow for some drizzle or light rain to develop across most
of southern WI Sunday morning. There is a chance that there could
be a brief wintry mix as the moisture moves in from south to north
during the morning hours. No travel impacts are expected since
temperatures will be warming quickly.
Precip will move out Sunday evening as the dry slot works its way
into the area. Wind will quickly shift to the west and become
gusty with the passage over the cold front Sunday night.

Monday through Friday:
Low pressure around 991 mb over far ern Lake Superior at 12Z Mon
will deepen into the 980s as it moves across Ontario into Quebec
during the day. Brisk wnwly winds and strong cold advection will
gradually drop temps through the 20s during the day with wind
chills stuck in the single digits to low teens. Fcst soundings
show the expected steep low level lapse rates and suggests wind
gusts could reach Wind Advisory criteria at least in the morning.
The winds will quickly diminish with sunset on Mon while polar
high pressure will move into srn WI for late Mon nt and Tue AM.
Skies will be mostly clear with high clouds not expected until the
early morning hours. Low temps in the single digits are forecast.
For Tue-Tue nt, a shortwave trough will approach in nwly flow
along with 850-700 mb warm advection. The airmass will be cold
and very dry and it is uncertain if enough lift will occur to
saturate the lows levels and receive measurable light snowfall.
Thus chance PoPs will remain for this period. Wed looks to be
quiet with moderating temps and slight chances for lake effect
snow at the lake front.
A deep polar trough will move into wrn USA for Thu-Fri then into
the Great Plains with cyclogenesis expected. Much uncertainty
where the cyclogeneis will occur over the Great Plains and whether
it will track north or south of srn WI for Fri nt-Sat. Chances for
rain and snow in the forecast for the end of the week.

Aviation vis and cigs will remain in the VFR category through
today and tonight, before dropping progressively to MVFR and IFR
cigs tomorrow after daybreak as precipitation in association with
a cold front moves in. Vis is not expected to be significantly
impacted as no fog is anticipated and rain tomorrow may not be
heavy enough to drop vis below P6SM.
Biggest concern for today will be the wind, which will be
northwesterly and will gust to around 20 knots before subsiding
this evening. Winds will remain low overnight before shifting to
southeasterly toward daybreak tomorrow and becoming gusty through
the day with gusty anticipated to be between 25 and 30 knots.

Gusty northwest winds are expected today, with highest gusts up to
25 kt near Sheboygan and Port Washington. Kept the Small Craft
Advisory going for our northern two zones but cancelled it south
of the North Point Light.
Southeast winds will increase Sunday morning as low pressure
approaches from the Northern Plains. Look for building waves and
wind gusts up to 35 kt. Confidence is increasing in reaching gale
force gusts for the nearshore areas and the entire open Lake
Michigan.
After a brief lull in the winds Sunday evening through the early
overnight hours as the low crosses Lake Michigan, expect high-end
westerly gales in the wake of the cold front late Sunday night
through Monday afternoon for the whole lake. A long Gale Watch is
in effect.
