.SYNOPSIS...
A complex low pressure system will impact the region tonight
into Saturday. High pressure will build in from the northwest
Sunday into early next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /TONIGHT/...
As of 3 PM Friday...Convection has become isolated across
Eastern NC this afternoon, mainly for the inland Coastal Plain
counties from Duplin north to Martin County. The warm front is
now north of the area with a secondary surge of gusty winds
being observed across ENC, upwards of 35-40 mph. Continued
trends of diminishing PoPs this afternoon as moisture focus
along the warm front lifts north of the area with no real
trigger for showers to redevelop upstream of ENC. The stacked
low pressure system, currently centered over Tennessee,
continues to spin over the southeastern CONUS with upper ridge
axis lifting off the eastern seaboard. At the surface, ENC
remains in modest/strong SW flow behind the departing warm front
and the main surface low over southern OH/northern KY. This
cyclone will clear our area by evening, but the upper low and
attendant low-level moisture will impact the Carolinas through
the weekend.

Surface winds will subside to 5-10 mph tonight with partly
cloudy skies, allowing temps to fall into the upper 40s for
inland locations, to low 60s along the coast and Outer Banks.
The evening and overnight will remain mostly dry, with some
showers possible late tonight for the Outer Banks and far
Eastern NC prior to daybreak Saturday morning due to a surge in
moisture along the coast.

Strong winds will contribute to dangerous coastal conditions -
see the Tides/Coastal Flood section for more detail.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY/...
As of 310 PM Fri...Eastern NC will remain under the influence of
the broad upper low over the Southeastern CONUS on Saturday with
SW winds, partly cloudy skies, and mostly dry conditions,
allowing temps to rebound into the mid/upper 60s for inland
locations and upper 60s along the coast. Rain chances remain
focused along the Outer Banks coast, but generally 20 percent or
less.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 235 AM Fri...Active weather pattern begins to wane Sat
with troughing generally persisting over the eastern US and
large complex low pressure system impacting the area into
Sunday. High pressure will build over the area Sunday night into
early next week. A weak cold front will move through the area
mid next week.

Sunday through Tuesday...Low pressure will continue to lift
through the NE US as trough axis shifts off the east coast.
Upper flow becomes more zonal Sunday as sfc high pressure builds
in from the WNW late. Upper ridge begins to build across the SE
Mon as next frontal system approaches from the west. Near
normal temps expected with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s,
and overnight lows mid/upper 40s inland and 50s along the coast.

Tuesday and Thursday...High pressure will slide off the coast
Tue as a weakening cold front approaches from the west. The
front is progged to push through Tue night, though still some
timing differences this far out. Little moisture with this
feature, so will continue dry forecast through Wed. Moisture
increases late week with low pressure moving through the gulf
states. Near normal temps will continue through the period with
highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and overnight lows in the
40s/50s.

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
SHORT TERM /through Saturday morning/...
As of 145 PM Fri...Predominant VFR conditions expected through
the TAF period. The bigger concern in the short term will be
cross wind component at area TAF sites with SW winds gusting
upwards of 30 kt through late afternoon. Wind gusts will subside
below 20 kt by 23-00Z this evening, and remain SW late tonight
into Saturday, with gusts upwards of 15 kt Saturday. No
reductions to visibility or ceilings expected overnight due to
mid-level drying and a fairly mixed lower-level atmosphere
(despite good low level moisture from previous rain). Isolated
showers are possible along coastal sites (MRH/HSE) but most
inland TAF sites should remain dry for Saturday.

LONG TERM /Saturday through Tuesday/...
As of 235 AM Fri...VFR conditions expected through the period.
High pressure builds over the area late Sunday into early next
week.

.MARINE...
SHORT TERM /Tonight and Saturday/...
As of 320 PM Fri...Latest surface and buoy data indicate SSW to
SW winds 20-30 kt with gusts upwards of 35 kt, with seas
ranging 8-11 ft. For the Sounds, winds range 15-25 kt with
gusts to 35 kt for the far eastern portions of the Pamlico Sound.
While the Gale force surge was expected, its inland extent over
the Pamlico Sound was not handled well by the guidance. Will
hoist a short Gale Warning for the Pamlico Sound. No changes to
other ongoing Gale Warnings or Small Craft Advisories.

Winds and seas will gradually subside this evening, with SCAs
expected for all coastal waters after midnight, mainly for
lingering swells.

LONG TERM /Saturday through Tuesday/...
As of 235 AM Fri...High pressure will grad build in from the
west late Sun, with winds becoming W 10-20 kt Sat and Sunday.
The high will crest over the area Mon and Tue with Nly winds
10-15 kt.

Seas 4-7 ft Sat grad subsiding to 3-6 ft Sun as winds diminish
and become more offshore. Seas will continue to subside to 2-4
ft Mon and Tue.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 315 PM Fri...Strong onshore winds will combine with large
NE swells from distant low pressure, resulting in dangerous
conditions in the surf zone. High Surf Advisory for the beaches
north of Cape Lookout continues with 7 to 10 foot waves in the
surf zone. Main concern is rough surf, minor beach erosion and
localized ocean overwash (mainly along Hwy 12 in spots where
with vulnerable dune structure), esp during times of high tide.
