.SYNOPSIS...12/348 AM.

Any showers will exit the region this morning. A weak storm may
bring showers to the Central Coast Saturday afternoon, and rain
showers and low elevation snow showers to northern slopes Saturday
night and Sunday morning. It will then be dry through Thursday.
Gusty northwest winds will affect the mountains and some coastal
and valley areas through Saturday. Winds may become strong to
damaging in some areas late Saturday through Sunday morning.
Temperatures will mostly be below normal through Thursday.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...12/457 AM.

Upper low was centered in the southern San Joaquin Valley early
this morning. This system will track southeastward, passing to
the east of the forecast area later this morning, then moving
into Arizona late this afternoon. A band of rain moved across SLO
and SBA Counties from just before midnight through the early
morning hours. Rainfall totals were generally one quarter to one
third of an inch across SLO County with local totals near one half
inch, and one tenth to one quarter inch across SBA County. The
band of rain was falling apart as it moved into Ventura County
this morning. However, there will still be a chance of showers
across Ventura County early this morning, and Los Angeles County
through mid or late morning. Rainfall in these areas should
generally be one tenth of an inch or less, although local totals
up to a quarter inch are possible in the mountains and possibly in
eastern Los Angeles County. Some locations may not receive
measurable rain at all. Snow levels will be between 5000 and 6000
feet, and local snow accumulations of an inch or two are possible
in the mountains this morning. Skies should become partly cloudy
in most areas by afternoon. Max temps should be down a few degrees
in most areas.

Gusty northwest to north winds are expected to develop and reach
advisory levels across the L.A., VTU and SBA County mountains, on
the south coast of SBA County below passes and canyons, and in
the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys today. Winds will diminish
in these areas somewhat tonight. Will run the advisories through
this evening in the Santa Clarita Valley and through late tonight
in the Antelope Valley. Across the mountains, and on the south
coast of SBA County, believe there will be enough wind to keep the
advisories going through Sat afternoon, when another, stronger
burst of northwest winds affects the region.

A trough is expected to move into the Pac NW tonight and early
Sat, then dig into the Great Basin during the day Saturday. Expect
clouds to increase across the region on Sat, with skies becoming
mostly cloudy. This system will only bring a slight chance of
showers to areas north of Pt Conception in the afternoon. Behind
this system, north to south gradients will increase sharply across
the region late Sat and Sat night and NW to N winds at 850 mb
will increase to around 50 kt across the mtns from eastern SBA
through L.A. County Sat night and Sun morning. Expect widespread
gusty northwest to north winds across the region late Sat into
Sunday, and wind advisories will likely be needed for many areas.

Due to the possibilty of damaging wind gusts, have issued High
Wind Watches for the mountains of L.A., VTU, and SBA Counties
(excluding the Santa Monica Range), and for the south coast of SBA
County from late Sat afternoon through Sun morning, and for the
Antelope Valley from late Sat afternoon through late Sat night.
Local 3 km WRF suggests that some mountain wave development could
bring very strong to damaging winds into portions of the San
Gabriel Valley such as Pasadena and Altadena, and to the Lake
Casitas area in Ventura County Saturday night, especially in the
evening, and this will have to be watched closely.

Skies will generally be partly cloudy Sat night and Sun. The
exception will be on northern slopes of the mountains, especially
the VTU County mountains and the mountains of eastern L.A. County,
where moist upslope northerly flow will keep skies cloudy, and
may bring periods of showers to the area Sat night and Sun
morning. The WRF continued to be most bullish with the precip,
showing over one quarter of an inch in some areas. With snow
levels dropping to between 3500 and 4000 feet Sat night and Sun,
this could allow for accumulating snow on portions of Interstate 5
late Sat night and Sun morning. Since confidence in this is so
low, A Winter Storm Watch was not issued, and instead, the focus
was placed on the potential for damaging winds. It will remain
cool across the region on Sunday.

.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...12/451 AM.

Northwest flow pattern will continue across the region Sun night
and Monday, but heights will rise a bit, and there should be some
warming. A weak disturbance moving through the NW flow will cause
heights to lower a bit on Tue, so there could be slight cooling.
Either way, expect dry conditions, with very minor changes in
temps, still mostly below normal. Heights will rise some Wed and
Thu as a ridge builds into the West Coast. In additions N-S
gradients will increase again and gradients between KLAX and KDAG
will turn offshore. There could be some gusty north to northeast
winds at time Wed through Thu. Max temps will likely be up a few
degrees each day and skies will be mostly clear.

At 11Z, The marine layer depth was around 1800 feet deep at KLAX.
The top of the inversion was near 3200 feet with a temperature of
9 degrees Celsius.

S of Point Conception...
Low confidence with flight categories ahead
of the approaching weak front this morning. CIGs will vary
between IFR/MVFR categories. Best chance for IFR will be with
light precipitation through 18z. Showers should be out of the area
by then +/- hour. Moderate confidence with VFR CIGs by 20z which
will continue through the period. Gusty west to north winds will
affect the mountains and some coastal TAF sites with light to
moderate UDDF through this evening.

N of Point Conception...
Moderate confidence with MVFR CIGs through 16z, then high
confidence with VFR Conds after 18-20z or high MVFR CIGs. Moderate
confidence for gusty north to west winds through this evening.
except continuing across the SBA Mtns where light to moderate UDDF
will be possible through the 24-hour period.

KLAX...MVFR conditions will continue through 15-16z with some
light precip through 15z, then improve to VFR conditions between
18-20z. There is a 30 percent of ceilings at or below 6000 feet
lingering into the afternoon. There is a 40% chance that easterly
component winds will exceed 8 kt through 14z. FROPA between
14-15z

KBUR...MVFR conditions will continue through 16z. VFR conditions
will develop between 16- 18Z or as late as 20Z. There is a 40% for
CIGS around 5000 ft lingering around the adjacent mountains into
this afternoon.

.MARINE...12/345 AM.

Outer Waters...High confidence in Small Craft Advisory (SCA) or
stronger conditions across the two southern zones
(PZZ673-676)through Sunday night. The GALE WATCH has been upgraded
to a GALE WARNING for these areas mentioned, starting this afternoon.
Gusts up to 40 kts are possible by Saturday evening, again mainly
from Point Conception to NW of San Nicolas Island. The northern
portion will experience SCA level winds through Saturday
afternoon, with a good chance that GALE force winds will spread
into the zone Saturday evening. A GALE WATCH has been issued for
the northern zone of PZZ670 starting Saturday night continuing
through the weekend. There is a good chance that SCA thresholds
will continue into next week. Seas are forecast to increase to 10
feet or higher tonight through the weekend. Waves will be steep
due to wind driven short period swells.

Inner Waters N of Point Sal...High confidence in current forecast
with SCA level winds increasing this morning. Strongest winds will
occur across the southern half of the zone near Point Sal through
this evening. After a brief lull with the winds lowering to below
SCA levels, winds will pick up even stronger Saturday and
continue through the weekend.

Inner Waters S of Point Conception...High confidence for SCA
conditions this morning spreading south to the waters off the LA
coast by the mid-morning hours. The SCA winds are expected to
continue through late tonight. They will weaken some early
Saturday before strengthening in the afternoon possibly reaching
GALE force. A GALE WATCH is in effect for the entire inner waters
from noon Saturday through early Sunday morning. Gusts to 40 knots
will be possible. A long period NW-W swell is expected to spread
building seas into the exposed areas of the SoCal Bight late this
weekend, adding to the hazardous conditions there.
