.UPDATE...
Showers developed in the afternoon, with the strongest over the
southwestern quadrant of Puerto Rico. This activity has
dissipated, and only lingering showers remain over the Caribbean
waters. For the rest of the night, a northeasterly wind flow may
bring passing showers over portions of the eastern and northern
half of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, but no
significant activity is anticipated. Recent satellite imagery
shows a group of clouds between the Virgin islands and the Leeward
Islands, resulting in high clouds affecting these areas. Winds are
expected to increase tomorrow into the workweek, as a surface high
pressure north of the area tighten the pressure gradient.

Mainly VFR conditions are expected across the local terminals.
VCSH may move over TJSJ and the USVI terminals tonight, which
could result in brief low ceilings and reduced visibilities. TJSJ
22/00Z sounding showed winds out of the ESE at 10-15 knots, but
winds are expected to pick up a little by 22/12Z.

Choppy seas up to 6 feet and winds up to 20 knots are expected
tonight, hence small craft operators are urged to exercise
caution. As moderate to fresh winds continue early in the
workweek and a northerly swell invades the local waters, seas
will become hazardous, 7 to 8 feet. Therefore, Small Craft
Advisories will be in effect for the local waters.

SYNOPSIS...Near normal moisture will linger through early Monday,
then patches of moisture and brief periods of drier air will be
moving into the local area for the rest of the workweek. Surface
high pressure will move from the western Atlantic into the Central
Atlantic for the first half of this week. Northerly swell and
stronger winds will cause hazardous seas and surf zone conditions
from Monday into Wednesday.
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday...
Scattered to locally numerous showers have been observed today
across the local islands, perhaps most noticeably across the
southwestern quadrant of PR this afternoon. This is due to near
normal moisture interacting with the diurnal and local effects.
This near normal moisture will continue into Monday morning,
causing scattered showers across the local waters, USVI and
eastern PR tonight and early Monday. However, another Patch of
moisture moves in very late on Monday, but by Tuesday afternoon
drier air moves in. In essence that will be the pattern for
Tuesday and Wednesday, where patches of below normal and above
normal moisture moves through the area at different times.
Therefore isolated to scattered showers are forecast for the local
waters, USVI, and eastern PR in the overnight and early morning
hours, while afternoon showers can also occur across the central
and western PR as the moisture combines with the diurnal heating
and local effects. Near normal temperatures are also expected. The
local wind is expected to increase, as a surface high pressure
moves north of the local islands, tightening the local pressure
gradient on Monday into Tuesday.
LONG TERM...Wednesday through Monday...

Seasonal and tranquil weather conditions will persist during most
of the period with the surface high pressure ridge to reestablish
across the Atlantic, along with a mid to upper level ridge which
will build also across the region. This will maintain overall dry
and stable conditions aloft and again a strengthening of the trade
wind cap inversion. However, as the surface pressure builds to
our north, the local pressure gradient will strengthen resulting
in breezy to windy conditions during the period. The local wind
flow will become east southeast Wednesday through Friday, then
become more east to northeast by Saturday and Sunday.
For the period, expect periods of quick passing clouds and shower
activity across the islands and coastal waters especially during
the overnight and early morning hours. This will result in
minimal rainfall accumulations and weather impacts each day with
no significant or widespread activity forecast for the period.
As suggested by recent model guidance, an overall seasonal
weather pattern is expected to prevail. A fairly dry airmass is
forecast with only occasional patches of tradewind moisture moving
in and out of the region. This will produce isolated to scattered
overnight and morning showers from time to time. This will be followed
by lesser activity during the daytime except for the west and northwest
sections of Puerto Rico, where scattered afternoon showers will remain
possible each day. In addition, expect the increasing trade winds to
continue to create choppy to rough wind driven seas and hazardous marine
conditions through most of the period.
AVIATION...Mainly VFR conditions are expected to prevail across all
terminals during the next 24 hours. However, showers over the
interior/southwestern PR may cause tempo MVFR at TJPS thru 22z. ENE
winds will continue btw 10-15 kts, decreasing 5-10 kt overnight.
MARINE...Small craft advisory extended until Tuesday night as
the local guidance suggests that the seas will remain hazardous on
Tuesday night, while it is also hinting that some areas of the
Atlantic waters could have hazardous seas into very early
Wednesday, but we would like more consistency in the model
guidance before we extend the advisory into Wednesday. For
tonight, seas will be up to 6 feet and winds up to 20 knots,
therefore small craft operators are urged to exercise caution.
There is a moderate risk of rip currents tonight across many of
the local beaches. It is possible to have a high risk of rip
currents on Tuesday.
