...WINTER STORM WARNING WILL EXPIRE AT 1 PM PST THIS AFTERNOON...

Snow will taper off to light snow showers across the impacted 
area in the Sierra Nevada and only light accumulations are
anticipated through this afternoon. Therefore the Winter Storm 
Warning issued earlier for portions of the Sierra Nevada will be 
allowed to expire.

Area Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Possible morning fog with clearing skies early in the day. Clouds
returning later in the day as another storm system will bring
additional precipitation to the area tonight into Thursday.
Therefore, will expect another round of moderate to heavy snow at
times in the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon.
Otherwise, expect cooler than average temperatures to continue
until early next week.

.DISCUSSION...
The strong storm that cut deep into most of California is now
exiting the state and heading for the Four Corners area. Behind
the storm, lingering showers continue at a diminishing trend as
very stable air pushes into the region. As the stable air fills
the region, the pressure gradient is relaxed as winds continue to
diminish. Currently, the surface pressure gradient from KSFO to
KLAS is at 7.2mb after reaching a max of 15.0mb Tuesday evening.
The wind warnings and advisory have been allowed to expire Tuesday
night as weak ridging pushes through the region. While Wednesday
will see quiet weather with possible morning fog, the break in the
weather will be short-lived as another storm approaches the
region later today.

Ensemble models showing good confidence in introducing another
storm to the region by this evening. Winter Storm Watches are
currently in place as ensembles agree that a storm could push
through the Northern Portions of the District by this evening.
Good agreement is shown in placing the bulk of the next storms
energy more over Northern California and just skirting the Central
California Interior. Due to the fact that ensemble members show
minimal deviation from the mean solution, will expect the
trajectory to take more of a Northern California path. While no
atmospheric river moisture tap is being progged with the next
storm, ensembles place enough moisture and dynamic lift over parts
of the district to warrant a Watch Product.

Probabilistic temperature analysis is showing the short-wave
ridge to weak to modify temperatures in the short term. Therefore,
will expect conditions to remain on the colder side with
increased moisture preventing the area from falling before the
freezing mark during the week. The more northerly track of the
next storm will also prevent hazardous winds from developing
during the week. Ensemble mean then shows the storm crossing the
area as an inside-slider and dropping into the Great Basin/Mojave
Desert by the end of the week as the district begins to clear out.
Ridging will take hold of the district next weekend ahead of yet
another period of unsettled weather. Uncertainty in model solution
grows toward the end of the weekend with hints toward another
possible major storm. Current ensemble solution for the extended
period show another possible tap of atmospheric river moisture.
Hopefully, addition precipitation will be received over areas that
need the water.

Mountain obscuring IFR conditions across the Sierra Nevada and
Tehachapi Range in lingering clouds from Tuesdays storm.
Elsewhere, VFR conditions ahead of the next storm to hit Central
California after 00Z Thursday.
