Persons with interests along these streams should keep alert to
rising water and take all precautions to protect their property. Do
not drive or walk into flooded areas the depth and water velocity
could be too great for you to cross safely. Motorists should avoid
any water covered roads and find an alternate route. Livestock and
equipment should be removed from the flood plain immediately. Stay

* Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending
at 9:01 AM CDT Saturday was 43.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 44.6 feet
early Monday morning. It will then fall below flood stage late
Tuesday morning.
* Impact...At 43.0 feet, Minor lowland flooding begins in vicinity
of gage as flow escapes the main channel. Cattle should be removed
from low areas in the flood plain.
* Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 44.3

just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage
late Monday morning.
* Impact...At 25.0 feet, Moderate lowland flooding begins with the
river one third of a mile wide near the Highway 59 bridge flooding
secondary roads and bridges along the river. Livestock are
isolated and potentially drown.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 136.6 feet
Monday morning.
* Impact...At 136.8 feet, Moderate lowland flooding continues as the
approaches to the FM 3478 bridge upstream of the gage are
inundated and impassable. The lowest homes in the Green Rich
Shores Subdivision are flooded with up to one half foot of water.
Thomas Lake Road remains flooded and the lowest roads into
properties off FM 980 northwest of Riverside are inundated and
impassable.

feet on 03/21/2016.

Area Forecast Discussion...CORRECTED National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 503 AM CDT Sat Jun 5 2021 .SHORT TERM [Today Through Sunday Night]... So a few showers early this morning along the coast and expect these to fill in across the coastal counties through 15z and gradually expand inland then after 10-11 am coverage could expand abruptly as s/w arrives. The s/w could bring a slow moving tail of lift through the region this afternoon combined with the left front quad of the upper jet translating through the coastal/central areas this afternoon. PW of 1.75-1.9" with K-index of 35-36 and convective temperatures that should be reached by 11 am indicates the potential for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Storm motions are slow around 10 knots and may become more multicellular small clusters that move thanks to the cool pool (not really cold pool given the profiles). Locally heavy rainfall possible this afternoon in this environment. Model guidance is split on how this plays out today with some of the short term guidance mostly dry (seems suspect given the moisture present and incoming s/w) other short term guidance is more bullish but in separate bands some near the coast then further/much further inland late afternoon. The coarser scale guidance may actually be more useful in that the set up looks good for widespread rain. Some clusters look possible and could bring about some street flooding but the nearly unanswerable problem at this point is the where? Yesterday's heavy rainfall on the northwest portion of the Galveston Bay isn't out of the realm of possibility today and for that matter other areas over the last week that have received heavy rainfall could lead to more localized flood threat. Will hold off on Flash Flood watch and will let the day shift call the audible. Perhaps the guidance in the short term later this morning after storms get initiated and models initialize better - may be of more help in pinpointing the higher threat areas. Storms should wane this evening over the central areas though lingering longer over the north and northeast before dissipating. Warm moist flow off the Gulf tonight continues and probably some speed convergence should help increase coverage of storms in the coastal waters before sunrise and then spread inland though the moist axis is a little further east. Scattered storms should develop Sunday. At this point think that it will be mainly focused over the areas along and east of the I-45 corridor. Drier air aloft from the southwest should overspread the western areas and could lead to an abrupt cutoff in rain over the west. Correspondingly any fast response flooding should be over the east. Tapers off quickly in the evening and loads up for Monday. Temperatures will be on the cooler side today with cloud cover and rainfall. Sunday is a bit more iffy...going with lower 80s east (under the precip) and mid to upper 80s west. 45 && .LONG TERM [Monday Through Saturday]... The mid/upper level low currently centered in central Texas will continue to move slowly to the northeast into western Oklahoma by Sunday evening. On Monday, a southward extending mid/upper level trough will be positioned over the area and expect another round of primarily afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms associated with lift from this feature, as well as from daytime heating with temperatures likely reaching the upper 80s across inland areas. Expecting slightly less precipitation coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday, but with ample moisture lingering, should still be able to generate scattered convection with heating across most areas. Late in the week, Thursday through Saturday, a strong mid level ridge centered over northern Mexico attempts to build eastward into the area, but a mid/upper level trough axis remains in the western Gulf. So, although warmer temperatures are expected at the end of the forecast period, most likely max temps will peak in the upper 80s to around 90. Afternoon convection will remain a possibility but on the lower end of scattered coverage. Wood && .AVIATION [06Z TAF Issuance]... Low ceilings over the northern half of the area with TAF sites from IAH northward 300-1100 feet and light fog early this morning. Low level winds have backed around to the east-southeast and expect these ceilings to probably expand a little further south into the Hobby area and possibly even reaching SGR. CIGS should improve quickly 13-15z with heating and mixing but that will bring an increase in showers near the coast then popping up scattered over the area by 17z. SHRA should start to transition over to TSRA late morning and at this point expecting a south-north band to develop and sweep through into the northeast by late afternoon and could slow down this afternoon. Flight condition impacts for UTS/IAH/CXO this afternoon with these storms. Storms should wane by mid evening. Low ceilings return tonight after 03z in the northeast and expanding southward and westward throughout the night. Sunday and particularly Monday may have some big flight impacts for the area terminals with storms. 45 && .MARINE... An increase in shower and thunderstorm development will likely occur this morning near the coast. Periodic scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist across the marine area through the middle of next week. Southeast winds are expected to increase Saturday night into early next week, possibly requiring a caution statement as seas also build to 4 to 5 feet offshore. Tides will be slightly elevated as well through mid-week, but coastal flooding is not expected at this time. Wood && .TROPICAL... So still quiet...sort of...over Africa a big plume of dust is coming off with the burst of winds which is typical for June. This plume doesn't look to make it much past the central Atlantic...so good news there. But should probably point out that the GFS/ECMWF are indicating some potential weakness 13-16th of June and just weakness in the Western Caribbean/Southern Gulf.
