The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 930 AM HST.

* At 636 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over and moving onshore 
  in the Puna and Kau districts from the south. Rain is falling at 
  rates up to 3 inches per hour in the heaviest showers. Ponding is 
  already occuring along Route 130 between Pahoa and Keaau in the 
  Puna District.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
           properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
           closures possible in some areas. Landslides are
           possible in steep terrain.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Volcano, 
  Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates, 
  Pahoa, Keaau, Wood Valley, Pahala, Punaluu Beach, Kawa Flats, 
  Naalehu, Fern Forest, Eden Roc, Fern Acres, Kalapana and 
  Kurtistown.

This warning replaces the warning that was previously in effect for 
the Puna District.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even 
if they are currently dry.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on 
foot. Turn around, don't drown.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 930 AM HST if flooding 
persists.

This Flash Flood Warning replaces the previously issued Flood 
Advisory that was in effect for The island of Hawaii in Hawaii 
County.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 930 AM HST THIS 
MORNING FOR THE ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY...

At 800 AM HST, radar continues to indicate heavy rain falling over 
the Puna District and just offshore of the Kau District. The heavy 
rain offshore of the Kau District could at times move onshore 
bringing the potential for flooding. Rain is fallling at rates up to 
3 inches per hour in the heaviest showers. Ponding has already been 
reported along Route 130 between Pahoa and Keaau in the Puna 
District.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
