.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Sunday night)

Low pressure diving to our southwest has produced an array of
spring showers across the thirsty southwest CO valleys and central
to southern mountains. Based on SNOTEL data and available weather
obs, generally 2 to 5 inches of snow has fallen thus far. As
expected, the warm and high, spring sun has limited accumulation
across roadways. Even DOT cams over mountain passes aren't showing
much more than wet pavement. Still, convective storms will
continue to flourish across the San Juans and lower foothills this
evening which will lower snow levels and bring brief periods of
heavy, fluffy snowflakes. Expect higher elevations, above 9500
feet, to pick up another 2 to 4 inches of snow this evening
within the convective showers. However, recent guidance has
continued to trend downward with shower activity after sunset,
with most storms diminishing by midnight. For that reason, have
decided to truncate the current Winter Weather Advisory to end at
06Z tonight due to the light accumulation anticipated thereafter.
Storms will likely redevelop atop the San Juans Sunday afternoon,
with a similar convective feel as today though limited coverage.
Given the scattered nature of these storms and lack of coverage,
current forecast trends towards lesser snowfall totals and rates
which do not warrant the continuation of an advisory.
Otherwise, outside of the stormy covered mountain tops to the
south, the rest of the region remains blanketed by thin mid- to-
high level popcorn, cumulus clouds. Clearing is expect this
evening and overnight as cold, dry air spreads across the region.
For that reason, conditions are prime from temperatures to plummet
tonight. Freeze warnings remain in effect from midnight tonight
through Sunday morning for the Grand Valley and central Gunny and
Unc River Basins. However, these sub freezing temperatures will
spread well up/downstream the CO River, dipping lows from Rifle
down towards Moab. Have only included valleys where vegetation
remains susceptible to damaging freeze in the Freeze Warning.
Though, it's worth noting that these cold temps will trickle into
other valleys where folks may have recently turned on their home
irrigation systems or evaporative cooling units.
Despite a crisp morning, high temperatures will rebound roughly
10 degrees on Sunday afternoon. Other than the southern showers,
as previously mentioned, Sunday will turn out to be a pleasant
spring-like day with only a few passing mid-to-high level clouds.
Warm air advecting back into the region will help moderate
overnight lows Sunday night, as well as increased cloud cover
ahead of the next system.
.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)

The long term period starts out with a breezy day ahead of a well-
defined cold front that will be dropping down from the north. Ahead
of the front, a tightening pressure gradient and some deeper mixing
will allow some stronger winds to reach the surface. Antecedent dry
conditions remain in place so fire weather concerns are back in the
forecast as described below. By noon Monday, the cold front will be
along the WY/CO border and by the evening hours will have reached
the I-70 corridor. Ensembles and cluster guidance remain in
agreement that areas along the Divide will be favored for precip as
well as the northern valleys as the front moves through. Some
accumulating snow is possible for the higher elevations of the
northern/central mountains with about 2 to 4 inches looking
probable...maybe a bit higher than that at the highest points. Also
wouldn't be surprised if a few rumbles of thunder materialize along
the front as CAPE and lapse rates indicate some instability,
especially north of I-70.
Tuesday morning, the front and best support will have shifted to the
Plains while we might see a few showers over the San Juans. On the
backside of the front, cooler temps will move in though it doesn't
look like they'll manage to get into the southern valleys. So
outside of that area, expect high temps to be about 5 to 10 degrees
cooler than seen the day before...and also considerably cooler than
seasonal norms.
Wednesday will be an in-between day with some clouds around as
temperatures bump up about 10 degrees or so. To our west, a weak
closed low will open up Thursday and move through as a wave heading
towards the late afternoon and evening hours. It's a quick mover so
only looking at 12 hours of precip before ending by Friday morning.
At the moment, qpf amounts don't look too impressive. Saturday looks
to be a nice day as high pressure builds in.

Some breezy downslope winds will continue through about 10Z at
KGJT before winds shift and decouple, with lighter winds into the
morning. Aside from KGJT, winds will be relatively light and
terrain driven with clear skies at most terminals. Some scattered
clouds will remain across KDRO as the latest storm system spins
over New Mexico. Clear skies will begin the morning after daybreak
with some stratocumulus forming over the high terrain by Sunday
afternoon. Some occasional breezy conditions may occur at the
higher elevation sites but overall, winds should remain lighter
with dry conditions. VFR is expected at all TAF sites the next 24
hours.

due to increased cloud cover and showers across the central and
southern portions of the area. A cold front moving through Monday

concerns. Strong winds and dry conditions across the Four Corners
area may persist well into next week.
