.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move south across the area today. High
pressure will then build in from the north this weekend and
prevail through the middle of next week. By late week, a storm
system could impact the region.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
No major changes were made with the afternoon. Stratocumulus ahead
of the front is moving in about an hour or so faster than
expected, therefore sky coverage was adjusted to reflect this.
Also, temperatures have likely peaked over the Charleston Tri-
Counties and have even begun to decrease in some locations.
This trend of lowering temps will continue as clouds advance
southward and cooler air moves in behind the front.

Today: A potent shortwave moving across North Carolina will
shift offshore of the Outer Banks later today. Cold air
advection along the backside of the trough will force a cold
front south across the area which will bring cooler conditions
to the region in the wake of yesterday's active weather. The
front is currently timed to reach the I-26 corridor around 18z,
the I-16 corridor around 20z and the Altamaha River near sunset.
The steady, southward progression of the front will make for a
tricky high temperature forecast as temperatures will begin to
steadily fall with its passage. Even a slight change in FROPA by
an 1-2 hrs could have significant influence on highs. Temperatures
look to peak in the lower 60s across the Charleston Tri-County
Area to the mid 60s across the remainder of southern South
Carolina to the I-16 corridor with upper 60s elsewhere across
Southeast Georgia, including the Savannah Metro Area. If enough
frontal compression can occur within a region of full
insolation, then a few 70 degree readings could occur, mainly
south of a Reidsville-Hinesville line.

Model soundings depict a very dry column with PWATs well below
an inch. Some elevated moisture does look to pool along the
tightest thermal/moisture gradient associated with the surface
front so the formation of a few sprinkles would not be
surprising, mainly along the lower South Carolina coast and
areas along/south of I-16. Measurable rainfall does not look
likely at this time. Breezy conditions will develop along
coastal Charleston County mid-late afternoon with gusts 25-30
mph.

Tonight: High pressure will steadily wedge south overnight with
a tightening pressure gradient occurring along the coast. Cloudy
to mostly cloudy conditions will prevail with breezy conditions
(gusts 25-30 mph) occurring near the immediate coast. Lows will
range from the upper 30s across the far interior to the upper
40s along the Georgia coast where onshore winds from off the
Atlantic will moderate temperature falls. The various guidance
looks to be too aggressive with the generation of showers in
the northeast flow over the Atlantic overnight. While isolated
showers are likely, guidance is likely overdeveloping the
expansive marine stratocumulus field that will likely be in
place offshore of the Southeast U.S. coast. Dry weather will be
highlighted over all land-based areas.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Saturday and Sunday: As surface high pressure builds in from the
north, a mid-level trough will remain over the region. With
increased moisture, cloudy skies are expected. A coastal trough
should also develop just offshore on Saturday and persist into
Sunday. The best chance for showers is across the coastal waters and
coastal counties. Though, there could be isolated, light showers
further inland. With a tight pressure gradient in place, gusty
northeast winds will prevail. Highs on Saturday will be in the mid
50s, then warm into the 60s by Sunday. Lows for both days will be in
the 40s.

Monday: High pressure should be comfortably situated over the region
and the return of sunshine is expected by Monday afternoon as the
coastal low moves away from the area. Northeast winds will remain
somewhat elevated and gusty. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s.

Lake Winds: With the passage of a secondary cold front, winds will
become gusty at times over Lake Moultrie on Saturday and Sunday. As
of now, have winds below Lake Wind Advisory criteria but could need
to be reevaluated.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
By Monday night, high pressure will prevail across the area and rain-
free conditions are expected across the area through at least
Tuesday night. Then, a mid-level trough will trek eastward across
the central U.S. and associated moisture could enhance light
showers, mainly across inland areas starting Wednesday morning. For
now, have left POPs below 20%. By late week, rain chances will
slightly increase as a cold front approaches from the west. For
temperatures, a gradually warming trend will occur.

.AVIATION /18Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
VFR will prevail for much of the period at KSAV; however, cigs
north of KCHS are beginning to lower as a backdoor cold front
drops south. Initialized KCHS with MVFR cigs, which should
prevail through this evening and then lift to VFR after sunset.
Gusty NNE winds between 20-25 kt will persist for much of the
period at both sites.

Extended Aviation Outlook: VFR will prevail, though there could be
some light showers and low stratus over the weekend. Gusty winds
will persist through late weekend.

.MARINE...
Today: Post-frontal elevated winds will persist through at
least mid-morning before diminishing below Small Craft Advisory
thresholds. West winds will veer to the northwest and eventually
north this afternoon as a backdoor cold front drops south into
the region. Winds will surge across the Charleston County waters
and Charleston Harbor later this afternoon reaching 20-25 kt
once again. The Small Craft Advisory was maintained through the
day for the Charleston nearshore leg for this reason. An
additional Small Craft Advisory has been issued for the
Charleston Harbor beginning late this afternoon once winds begin
to increase again. Seas will subside to 1-3 ft over the
nearshore waters and 2-3 ft over the Georgia offshore waters,
but will begin to build closer to 4-5 ft over the northern
Charleston County waters by the end of the afternoon.

Tonight: The pressure gradient will tighten significantly
overnight as high pressure wedges down from the north. Northeast
winds will average 20-25 kt with gusts to 30 kt for all coastal
zones. Seas will build 5-7 ft nearshore waters with 8-10 ft
over the Georgia offshore waters overnight with waves building
2-3 ft in the Charleston Harbor. Small Craft Advisories have
been issued for the remaining marine zones beginning this
evening.

Saturday through Wednesday: As a coastal low shifts across the
waters and high pressure builds in from the north over the weekend,
marine conditions will be less than ideal. Strong northeast winds
and elevated seas will prevail. Gale Watches are in effect starting
Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday night for the Charleston
County nearshore waters and the outer Georgia waters and will likely
be upgraded to Gale Warnings. Winds are expected to exceed gusts of
35 knots for an extended period of time. Elsewhere, at least Small
Craft Advisories will be needed. Though, Gale Warnings are possible,
especially over the weekend. For all waters, except the Charleston
Harbor, seas will be 6-12 feet. Marine conditions will gradually
improve starting Monday night. By late Tuesday, NE winds at 10 to 15
knots are expected through Wednesday.

Rip Currents/High Surf: A low rip current risk is in place for
today. Thereafter, strong north to northeast winds will support an
elevated risk of rip currents through early next week. A moderate
risk of rip currents is in place for Saturday. A High Surf Advisory
could also be needed this weekend for 5+ foot breakers.
