A cold front will move offshore this morning. An upper trough
will remain across the area today into Sunday. High pressure will
build toward the region Monday into Tuesday. Low pres is expected
to pass south of the Gulf of Maine on Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
11:10 AM update...Forecast remains on track this hour. Just
backed off a little bit on the increasing clouds this afternoon
and raised midday temps by about a degree.

Secondary cdfnt has dropped thru the Crown of Maine and appears to
be located btwn CAR and PQI based on 5-min observations. KFVE is
gusting to 39kts as of 08z with CAR over 30kts, and expect these wl
only get stronger thru the mrng. Cdfnt wl continue to drop south
thru the mrng, mvg offshore shortly after daybreak. After several
above normal days, today wl feature aftn maxes between 5-7 degrees
blo normal. Winds wl begin to gradually lighten up aft 18z as brief
sfc ridge mvs in ahead of system dropping thru Quebec this aftn.

Ongoing snow showers this mrng wl rmn west of FA as upr lvl s/wv is
approaching the seacoast and wl mv offshore in the next hr or two.
No pops are expected over most of the region tho cannot rule out a
brief snow shower very early ovr the St. John Vly in low stratus
moving in fm the St. Lawrence.

Next s/wv currently dropping to the west of Hudson's Bay wl approach
wrn Maine around midnight tonight. Light snow showers are possible
over nwrn areas overnight with snowfall amnts < 1/2 inch thru the
nighttime hrs. With clouds increasing by evening, hv boosted temps
up by a degree or two for tonight.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
The arctic front crosses the region on Sunday. The concern
continues to be focused on the potential for snow squalls and
gusty snow showers. Steepening lapse rates through the low
levels and moisture profiles continues to support afternoon snow
squalls and gusty snow shower activity, with snow squall
parameters flashing signal for potential squalls. Like the
current thinking regarding pops for Sunday, with his res models
continuing to hint at the area from the North Maine Woods
through Millinocket and into Interior Downeast Maine for best
chances, thus will continue to show an area of likely pops
there. Potential for travel difficulties in any squalls/heavier
snow showers Sunday afternoon is a real possibility, thus will
continue to highlight the threat in the Hazardous Weather
Outlook.

Sunday night will be a very cold and blustery night. A strong
pressure gradient between the approaching high to our west and low
pressure to the east will keep a gusty northwest wind going right
through the night. Potential for patchy blowing snow Sunday
night in areas that receive any newly fallen snow on Sunday.
Won't try to get to detailed with this yet, since all depends
on who sees the snow showers/squalls, but something to note for
the dayshift.

With forecast overnight lows falling below zero across the
north, wind chills come into play, with wind chill advisories
likley needed across northern areas Sunday night into Monday
morning, with wind chills as low as 25 to 30 below possible
across the North. There will continue to be the chance for snow
showers in the cold northwest flow, mainly for northern and
central areas into Sunday evening.

Unseasonably cold temperatures will continue on Monday as Canadian
high pressure continues to build across from the west. Northwest
winds will continue on the gusty side into the afternoon with
continued pressure gradient across the area.

The wind begins to slacken Monday night as high pressure builds
across the area with dry weather.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Dry weather continues on Tuesday with high temperatures
continuing below normal for this time of year. Low pressure
passes well to our South on Wednesday with continued dry
weather. Increasing clouds can be expected Thursday as the next
low approaches. Uncertainty exists with regard to the track of
the late week low which could bring a chance for some snow or
rain to the area later Thursday into Friday. Temperatures on
Tuesday will be below normal, above normal Wednesday and
Thursday, then near normal for the end of the week.

.AVIATION /16Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
NEAR TERM: VFR next 24 hours. Northern terminals already seeing
nw winds gusting to 30-35kts with BGR and BHB increasing to near
30 kts in the next few hrs. Winds will diminish toward 21z with
light winds expected after 00z.

SHORT TERM:

Sun...MVFR/IFR in sct snow showers/squalls. NW wind gusting up to 30
kt.

Sun night...MVFR possible in sct evening snow showers, becoming VFR
late. Patchy blowing snow possible, mainly Aroostook county
terminals. NW wind gusts up to 35 kt.

Mon...VFR. NW wind gusting to 35 kt.

Tue-Wed...VFR. SW wind 5 to 10 kt.

NEAR TERM: Gale warning remains in effect until early this
afternoon. Once winds drop below gale force expect an SCA will
be required thru late tonight. Seas will increase to 5 to 6 feet
on the outer waters around daybreak before dropping this
afternoon to around 5 feet and under SCA conditions after
midnight tonight.

SHORT TERM: A gale warning may be required Sunday into Monday
evening with gusty NW winds expected in the cold air advection.
Moderate freezing spray is expected Sunday night. Winds/seas
will subside to small craft advisory levels later Monday night
through mid week.
