...Another dry day with above normal temps...

High Impact Weather Potential...Large area of strong high pressure
remains centered across much of the eastern US early this morning.
Weak moisture-starved cold front stretches from the Northern Plains
thru Northern Lower Michigan into far SE Canada. Only impact from
this cold front is high clouds streaming thru our CWA along and
north of it. Otherwise...skies remain mostly clear with temps
generally in the 20s.

High pressure will slide east of the Great Lakes by this evening.
Cold front will wave back northward as a warm front later today and
tonight ahead of developing low pressure to the lee of the Rockies.
Southerly flow will strengthen in between departing high pressure
and the developing upstream low. Neutral low level temp advection
today combined with increasing mid and high clouds will somewhat
limit afternoon high temp potential. But still expect temps will be
around 10 degrees above normal given little change in overall
airmass. Afternoon highs will warm into the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Clouds will continue to increase...lower and thicken this evening as
low level moisture increases. Precip chances will increase across
Northern Lower Michigan overnight thanks to strengthening isentropic
ascent and arrival of deep moisture. Thermal profile suggest precip
should remain all liquid overnight with the expectation of evening
low temps in the mid 30s...then slowly rising temps into the upper
30s to near 40 degrees overnight.

.SHORT TERM...(Wednesday through Thursday)

High Impact Weather Potential...dense fog possible Wednesday into
Thursday. Strong winds of nearly 60 mph possible. Thunderstorms with
strong winds are also a possibility, but a relatively small threat
as of right now.

The forecast period begins with cyclogenesis on the lee side of the
Rockies over Nebraska. The low that develops continues to deepen as
it tracks towards western Lake Superior. As this system continues to
deepen and move towards the northeast, the pressure gradient between
it and an area of high pressure over the southeastern CONUS
tightens...producing strong winds of up to 50 to 55mph Wednesday
night and into Tuesday...especially counties along the Lake Michigan
shorelines. Widespread light rain showers/drizzle and fog will
accompany the warming air as southerly winds ramping up advect
deeper Gulf moisture into northern Michigan. These warm temperatures
over the snowpack will also produce areas of dense fog...reducing
visibilities throughout much of the day Wednesday and into Thursday.
This fog will linger until colder air begins to filter in Thursday
morning behind the cold front associated with the aforementioned low
pressure system located over western Ontario and still continuing to
deepen. Thunderstorms may develop along this cold front and any
storms that do could produce some damaging wind, as surface winds
are already forecast to gust to 40-55+ mph and 60-70kt winds reside
at just around 900-850mb for several hours in forecast soundings
late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Forecast soundings
do not look all that impressive for thunderstorm development, but
with such strong forcings with this system, I wouldn't doubt some
mesoscale forcings helping at least a few isolated storms to pop up.
And as already mentioned...any stronger convection (even stronger
showers with no thunder) may produce some severe-level winds. Colder
air will begin filtering into the forecast area Thursday behind the
departing cold front...decreasing temperatures throughout the day.
This colder air filtering in behind the cold front will begin to mix
some snow into any lingering rain showers and turning to all snow
during the late afternoon and evening hours. With the wrap around
moisture and colder air (850mb temperatures around -10 to -12C),
some lake enhanced/effect snows could target northern Chippewa
County. QPF for this event is not high...with only a quarter of an
inch to around 0.40" at most across the eastern upper peninsula.

Winds will veer throughout the day Wednesday, becoming southerly by
midday and continue to veer to near westerly throughout the day
Thursday behind the departing cold front. The strongest winds will
be along and behind the cold front overnight Wednesday into
Thursday.

High temperatures are a bit difficult (or at least could be
deceiving to some) as the temperatures will increase throughout the
evening and overnight hours with Wednesday's high temperature
occurring just before midnight...with some locations reaching into
the low 50s, but during the afternoon hours only being in the low to
upper 40s. This may cause locations to reach record temperatures
both Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will be in the 40s to near
50 degrees by sunrise Thursday morning and drop to only the mid to
upper 30s by late Thursday afternoon.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Monday)

High Impact Weather Potential...Minimal.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast...Drier air will push in rather quickly
behind the departing system mentioned in the previous forecast
period, as high pressure over the central United States builds back
into the Great Lakes region for Friday. Providing precipitation free
weather throughout much of the day, before a system treking up the
northeast coast ushers in colder air on northwesterly winds by
Friday night into Saturday producing some light system snow and then
some lake effect that appears to possibly last throughout Sunday
morning/early afternoon before strong high pressure and dry air
build over the Great Lakes and diminishes any lingering
precipitation and provides a dry beginning to the next work
week. Highs should be closer to normal...running in the upper 20s to
low 30s.

fog/mist formation, especially at KMBL with light drainage flow

late tonight thru mid week as this upstream system rapidly deepens
and tracks thru Minnesota. Storm/gale force winds are possible late
Wednesday night into Thursday as a result of this system.
