What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this frost advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Wakefield, VA wrote its last area forecast discussion before this frost advisory went out at Nov 4, 2:15 AM EDT, 1 hour 4 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Nov 4, 2:15 AM EDT, 1 hour 4 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Wakefield VA
215 AM EDT Thu Nov 4 2021

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will track across the deep south and off the
Southeast and Mid Atlantic coast Thursday. Surface high pressure
will be over the northern Mid Atlantic region for late Thursday
night into Saturday morning. Another low pressure system tracks
off the southeast coast later Saturday and Sunday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 210 AM EDT Thursday...

Considerable mid/high clouds keeping temps from dropping so far
tonight. Having tough time seeing readings drop sufficiently
enough for frost (near guidance supports that idea) on the
lower MD ern shore so am considering dropping that advisory w/
the new package. OTW...models remain in good agreement that weak
sfc lo pres will track off the SE CONUS coast today. With sfc
hi pres located N of the local area...a CAD scenario will be in
place so some portions of the CWA probably will not get out of
the m/u40s. Have kept that across interior NE NC and south
central VA. Highs 50-55F elsewhere. Rain chances will be highest
across the SE where likely PoPs (60-70%) are forecast tapered
to a dry forecast over the N/NW 1/2 of the CWA. Rainfall amounts
are expected to be mostly up to 0.20" across SE VA and NE NC.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 355 PM EDT Wednesday...

Dry and cool weather (cold at night) then expected for late Thu
night through at least the first part of Sat, as low pressure
moves farther out into the Atlc and sfc high pressure builds
down into and over the nrn Mid Atlc region. Clearing Thu night
with lows mainly in the upper 20s to lower-mid 30s well
inland/Piedmont (where more frost/freeze headlines are likely
to be needed), and in the lower to mid 40s along the SE coast.
Partly to mostly sunny Fri with highs ranging through the 50s.
Mostly clear to partly cloudy Fri night with lows ranging
through the 30s inland/Piedmont, and in the lower to mid 40s
along the SE coast. During Sat, the sfc high will slide off the
srn New England coast, as low pressure starts to slowly lift NE
off the SE coast. Slight or small chance PoPs will arrive into
extrm SE VA and NE NC Sat aftn. Highs on Sat will range from the
mid 50s to lower 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 400 PM EDT Wednesday...

Rather strong low pressure moving NNE off the SE and Mid Atlc
coast, will bring the chance for rain and strong NNE winds to
ESE portions of the area Sat night into early Sun night.
High pressure and dry weather will then return for late Sun
night through Wed. The persistent NNE flow could cause some
minor coastal flooding across Hampton Roads and adjacent beaches
in NE NC. Highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s Sun, in the lower
to mid 60s Mon, and in the mid 60s to near 70 Tue and Wed.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 140 AM EDT Thursday...

VFR conditions over much of the FA through the 06Z/04 TAF
forecast period. MVFR conditions and rain can be expected at
ECG...w/ a low prob at ORF/PHF. VFR conditions and gusty NNE
winds (mainly at the coast) expected for late tonight into Fri.
Another system moves NE from FL and off the SE/mid-Atlantic
coast over the weekend keeping N/NE winds gusty along with a
chance for a few SHRAS across SE VA/NE NC.

&&

.MARINE...
As of 320 PM EDT Wednesday...

High pressure has centered itself over northern VA this
afternoon, allowing for lighter northerly winds (5-15 kt) over
the marine area. Waves 1-2 ft; seas 2-4 ft. All SCAs were
dropped earlier today.

Model guidance continues to indicate weak low pressure
developing off the SC coast late tonight then quickly lifting
NE well off the NC OBX during Thursday. A secondary push of
high pressure is then expected to slide east and take up
residence over the Northeast US on Friday. A brief uptick in
wind speeds will occur late Thursday night through Friday
afternoon as the pressure gradient tightens. SCA conditions will
be likely for much of the local coastal waters, lower Ches Bay
and Currituck Sound (NNE winds 15-25 kt with waves 3-4 ft and
seas 4-5 ft).

Conditions briefly improve late Friday into Saturday before a
stronger area of low pressure develops in proximity to the one
tonight and then tracks NE off the NC OBX late Saturday through
Sunday. This second low has the potential to bring SCA
conditions to all local waters as well as potential for gale
force winds to the lower Ches Bay, Currituck Sound and coastal
waters.

&&

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 320 PM EDT Wednesday...

N to NE winds in combination with king tides will bring an
increase in water levels through the weekend and should allow
for minor tidal flooding (with departures of 1 to 1.5 ft above
normal tide) starting Friday and continuing into the weekend for
the southern Bay including Hampton Roads and much of the ocean
side south of Chincoteague. Will need to monitor for localized
moderate flooding, especially if the coastal low tracks a little
closer to the coast this weekend.
