.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...
The strong high pressure remains in control over most of mainland
Alaska. This ridge has largely blocked low pressure from moving
eastward and has kept much of the weather activity over the
Aleutians and southern Bering, occasionally impacting Southwest. A
frontal boundary remains nearly stationary from the Kuskokwim
Delta toward the southeast over the Alaska Peninsula and over
Kodiak Island. In addition, a low pressure trough/surface
boundary stretching eastward from a low south of Adak is swinging
northward.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...
Model solutions are coming into better agreement throughout the
short term, although there are still differences. As the North
Pacific low south of Adak slowly lifts northward into the Bering,
the frontal boundary stretching east across the Gulf will continue
to lift north, approaching the northern Gulf coast by the end of
the weekend. The strength and position of this strong low over
the western Aleutians/southern Bering remains somewhat in
question, and a slight shift in position will affect the location
of the anticipated gale force winds.

PANC...Had some patchy fog during the morning, but VFR conditions
have returned, at least for now. While VFR conditions should be
the predominate conditions, starting to see indications of another
round of fog tonight into tomorrow. Will add some light fog for
now.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 through 3: Today
through Tuesday afternoon)...
A front will lift northward over Kodiak Island this evening.
Associated precipitation is expected to remain all rain as surface
temperatures will be in the upper 30s. Showers will continue
through Sunday as the front stalls in the Northern Gulf, however
the precipitation will remain south of the mainland. Mostly sunny
skies and cooler temperatures will continue across Southcentral
trough the remainder on the weekend in weak offshore flow. An
upper shortwave will move the remnants of the front onshore Monday
night into Tuesday. This will lead to potential light
accumulations across Anchorage and the Mat-Su.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA (Days 1 through 3: Saturday
Afternoon through Tuesday)...
High pressure over the interior will bring quiet weather tonight
across the region with northeasterly winds. However an occluded
warm front will move towards the area on Sunday bringing a bit
warmer temperatures and a threat of snow to the Kuskokwim Delta
and a rain snow mix across portions of Bristol Bay. This front
will produce gusty winds especially along the coast where a
chance of blowing snow is possible for the Kuskokwim Delta coast,
but only minor impacts if any expected. Monday the front will move
north and west, but cyclonic flow due to low pressure over the
Southern Bering Sea will keep chances of snow for Bristol Bay and
the the Kuskokwim Delta but little to no snow accumulations
expected. Tuesday expect similar conditions with clouds and a
chance of snow as weak shortwaves rotate near Southwest Alaska.

increasing winds across the Bering tonight and Sunday. A weaker
low is south of Adak, however a stronger storm force low southwest
of Dutch Harbor will track north pushing a warm occluded front
into the Southern and Eastern Bering tonight and Sunday morning.
This will bring a large swath of gales with storm force winds
mainly on north side of the low. This front will weaken as it
moves north and west towards the Pribilofs. On Monday the parent
low will spin around the Central Aleutians with rain and snow
showers across the region with winds decreasing to small crafts
with a few pockets of gales mainly west of St. Matthew Island and
near the low pressure center across the Central and Eastern
Aleutians. This low will slowly track east on Tuesday with similar
conditions with gales continuing west of St. Matthew Island and
near the low pressure center across the Central and Eastern
Aleutians. Conditions will be favorable for heavy freezing spray
near and west of St. Matthew Island tonight through Tuesday.

Bering Sea: A Central Aleutian low exits over the Alaska
Peninsula by Thursday. Model track and development are close, so
confidence is good through the period. Widespread high end small
craft winds and waves with areas of gale force winds over the
Central and Eastern Aleutians dissipating late Wednesday. Wave
heights to 15 feet over the Central Bering subsiding Wednesday. A
new low and front approach the Western Aleutians and Bering
Thursday.
Gulf of Alaska: Weak high pressure yields to a front entering the
Southwest Gulf late Tuesday. The front will extend across the the
Northern Gulf by Thursday. Model track and development are close,
so confidence is good through the period. Widespread small craft
winds and waves extend over the Gulf with the front for Wednesday.
Lingering small craft winds along the North Gulf Coast for Thu.
Wave heights to 13 feet over the Southern Gulf subsides late
Wednesday.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 4 through 7: Wednesday through Saturday)...
Generally unsettled weather will mid to late week. A broad low
will track over the Central Bering on Wednesday. Widespread snow
showers along its associated front will is expected to bring
widespread snow across nearly all of the mainland. These will
gradually taper off through Thursday, with an upper trough digging
over western Alaska later in the week leading to cooler
temperatures. Snow showers look to continue over Southcentral and
the Copper River Basin through the end of the week as a low tracks
northward in the Gulf. The timing and placement of these features
remains somewhat uncertain, therefore there is only low to
moderate confidence at this time.
