.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...

A large low pressure system currently over Etolin Strait is
continuing to move northeastward toward the Alaskan mainland. The
jetstream remains south of 50N west of 160W, then extends
northeastward to the AlCan Border and then extends southeast to
the Pacific Northwest. Closer to the surface, radar shows
widespread rain moving northeastward across the northern Gulf of
Alaska, Prince William Sound, the Kenai Peninsula, Cook Inlet, the
Matauska Valley and Susitna Valley. Radar also shows showers
moving northeastward across the Kuskokwim Delta and Bristol Bay.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...

Guidance is in good agreement with respect to the placement and
intensity of synoptic scale features at both the surface and in
the upper levels over the next 3 days. Forecast confidence remains
above average.

.AVIATION...
PANC...VFR conditions will persist through 08th/23z, then ceilings
will fall to 3000ft (MVFR conditions) from 08th/23z through
09th/06z, then ceilings will rise above 3000ft after 09th/06z.
Light winds this morning will have temporary gusts into the
upper 10s(kts) from 13z through 15z.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 and 2: Today
through Sunday morning)...

A weather front attached to an occluded low near Nunivak Island
extends southeast into the western Gulf this morning.
Precipitation, in the form of rain and high elevation snow, is
pushing across Southcentral ahead of the front with areas of
moderate to heavy rain along the eastern Kenai Peninsula and
western Prince William Sound. Southeasterly gap winds have also
developed out ahead of the front, with gusty winds through
Turnagain Arm and the Copper River Basin this morning.

A triple-point low will develop along the front later this
morning south of the Kenai Peninsula and strengthen as it lifts
toward Prince William Sound. The southeasterly flow aloft will
also strengthen, allowing precipitation to wane due to
downsloping along the lee of the Kenai and Chugach Mountains. Gap
winds will also diminish due to a deepening north/south surface
pressure gradient.

This low and its associated upper-level trough push onshore by
late Friday evening. This will result in the upper-level flow
becoming southwesterly along the coast and across Cook Inlet,
allowing for precipitation to redevelop over the previously
downsloped areas. A secondary surface trough moves north into
Prince William Sound for Saturday, with rain and mountain snow to
persisting along the coast. By Saturday night, the upper-level
trough axis slides east and the resulting northwesterly flow will
begin to usher in drier and cooler air. Snow showers will linger
across the mountains Sunday with northwesterly gales over the
Gulf and gusts along the immediate coast.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA (Days 1 to 2: Today through
Saturday)...

A strong low pressure system which has dropped into the mid 960s
mb range early this morning is near Nunivak Island. This low will
move across Nunivak Island over the next few hours before moving
inland towards Bethel by this afternoon. The low continues moving
eastward over the Kuskokwim/Kilbuck Mountains Friday night and
then to the western Alaska Range Saturday morning while slowly
weakening. Basically, expect continued on and off rain shower
activity to continue today through Saturday. Most of the
population centers across Southwest will remain too warm for any
snow with snow remaining at higher elevations of 1500-2500 feet.
Colder air begins to move across the Kuskokwim Delta Saturday
afternoon and evening but any precipitation in valley locations is
expected to remain warm enough for the time being to remain
liquid, though, a few wet snowflakes cannot be ruled out. Breezy
conditions with gusts of 25 to 35 mph are also expected today
through tonight for areas of Southwest especially the coastal
communities.

Lastly, persistent southwesterly flow into Bristol Bay today
through tonight will yield to the concern of coastal flooding.
Therefore, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for the

.SHORT TERM FORECAST BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days 1 to 2: Today
through Saturday)...

A strong low pressure system currently sitting near Nunivak Island
will continue slowly moving to the east and then onshore the
Kuskokwim Delta coast later this morning into this afternoon. As a
result, most of the Bering Sea including the Pribilof Islands, and
the Alaska Peninsula and Eastern Aleutians can expect strong
gusty westerly winds to continue through tonight before
subsiding heading into Saturday morning. As a result, A High Wind
Warning remains in effect for the Cold Bay area through this
afternoon for gusts up to 75 mph. See warning for further
details. Gusty westerly winds for Dutch Harbor and the Central
Aleutians is expected to continue through tonight. Gusts may
approach upwards of 60 mph throughout the day. Gusty winds are
also expected to continue across the Pribilofs through tonight
with gusts upwards of 55 mph. Wave heights across the Bering will
also be 20 to 28 feet across portions of the Bering with seas
subsiding Friday night into Saturday.

Next, a gale force frontal system is expected to emerge off the
Kamchatka Peninsula this morning which will strengthen as it
tracks towards the Western Aleutians and western Bering Friday
night through Saturday. As a result, expect another round of rain
and winds for these areas during this timeframe as well as another
round of increased wave heights (~20 ft).

.MARINE (Days 3 through 5: Sunday through Tuesday)...

Bering Sea:
A wind-wrapped low in the Bering Sea spreads high-end gales
across the Bering Sea and westerly gale force winds along the
Aleutians for Sunday morning. This low tracks north of Bristol Bay
Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, spreading westerly gale
force winds across Bristol Bay for late Monday night, diminishing
Tuesday. Seas to 18 feet across the Bering Sea along the
Aleutians, subsiding Tuesday. A strong, wind-wrapped North Pacific
low approaches the western Aleutians early Monday morning and
moves into the Bering Sea through Tuesday morning. This low
spreads southwesterly storm force winds south of the Aleutians
Monday morning through Tuesday morning, and high-end gales across
the entire Bering Sea Monday night through Tuesday morning. Seas
building to 23 feet south of the Aleutians through Tuesday
morning.

Gulf of Alaska:
Strong westerly gales across the Gulf and northwesterly gale
force gap winds through the Barren Islands Sunday morning,
diminishing Sunday afternoon. Seas to 21 feet spread across the
Gulf, diminishing Sunday afternoon. A well-developed low moves
into the Gulf Monday morning and strengthens through Tuesday
morning. This low spreads storm force winds across the southern
Gulf and southeasterly storm force winds along the East Gulf Coast
Monday night through Tuesday morning. Seas to 19 feet across the
southern Gulf for Tuesday morning.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 4 through 7: Monday through Thursday)...

The storm track appears to shift southward next week, with fewer
impacts on the mainland than this weekend. On Monday, a weakening
occluded low tracks eastward into Southwest Alaska, with light to
moderate precipitation expected there, diminishing through
Tuesday. To the southeast, a triple point low develops in the
southern Gulf, bringing rain to Kodiak Island and gusty winds
through gaps and passes along the AKPen in the lee of the cyclone
Monday and Monday night. Model guidance has trended south and
eastward with this system, tracking the system further from the
mainland into the eastern Gulf on Tuesday, however the possibility
of gusty wind and precipitation along the north Gulf coast remain
possible with this system as some uncertainty in the track of the
low remains. Another low moves into the western Bering on Monday.
This low traverses the Bering quickly, crossing into the Gulf near
Kodiak by Wednesday. Supported by a weak shortwave aloft, the
system remains elongated with the bulk of its rain remaining south
of the low center, confining rainfall primarily to the Aleutians,
AKPen, and Kodiak Island, though there is some uncertainty in the
track of the low. By Wednesday, a tight pressure gradient between
the low in the Gulf and ridging in the Bering has the potential to
produce gusty gap winds through the AKPen and eastern Aleutians
once again.
