What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Jun 14, 9:30 AM EDT, 1 hour earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jun 14, 9:30 AM EDT, 1 hour before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
930 AM EDT Sun Jun 14 2020

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build across southeast Canada this weekend,
then across the northeast states into early next week. As the
surface high builds, an upper level low pressure system will
slowly meander from the Ohio River Valley to the Carolinas
through the middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
The center of an extensive area of high pressure will slide
from Quebec toward the Gulf of Saint Lawrence today. The air
mass will continue to bring dry weather conditions to our region
along with a northeast to east wind.

The leading edge of a deck of mid level clouds approaching from
the west will continue to erode as it encounters the dry air.
However, some of the clouds may overspread our counties in
eastern Pennsylvania this afternoon. Also, some cumulus may
develop over the upslope areas of eastern Pennsylvania and
northern New Jersey, away from the stabilizing effect of the
ocean.

High temperatures are forecast to be mostly in the 70s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM MONDAY/...
The surface high continues to remain centered well north of our
area through tonight. The upper trough will continue to push
southeastward through the Ohio Valley and into the Appalachians,
and starts to become a cut off low. We should continue to
remain dry overnight across the region.

Lows will range from the upper 40s across the southern Poconos
and portions of northwest New Jersey to the low to mid 50s
through the Lehigh Valley, Delaware Valley, central and southern
New Jersey, and Delmarva. Temperatures will remain warmer along
the immediate coast and remain in the upper 50s to near 60
overnight.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
High pressure at the surface will continue to be the theme
during the work week with slightly below normal temps through
Wednesday.

From a synoptic setup, we'll see a high pressure system set up
over the western Great Lakes region with a closed low over the
Carolinas. This sets up a Rex Block which will lead to little
change in the weather through around Wednesday. By Wednesday
afternoon, the jet stream over the Pacific Northwest will
strengthen and break down the Rex Block pushing the upper level
high into eastern Canada. This allows the upper level low over
the Carolinas to lift north over the Mid-Atlantic Thursday into
Friday with a return of unsettled weather. Anticipate showers
and thunderstorms being possible each day with the greater
chance being on Friday.

Temps through the period will be slightly below normal through
Wednesday but as the upper level low moves north we'll see a
return of warming temperatures. Still a ways to go between now
and then but some of the medium range guidance is hinting at the
idea of a heat wave across the region. Its obviously early but
with the EC suggesting 850mb temps 20-22C thats easily mid 90s
for next Sunday.

&&

.AVIATION /14Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of Today... VFR conditions expected. Northeast winds
around 5 to 10 knots becoming more easterly through the day. A
few gusts around 20 knots are possible. High confidence.

Tonight...VFR conditions expected. Northeast to east winds
around 5 to 10 knots. High confidence.

Outlook...

Monday and Tuesday...Mostly VFR with an east to northeast wind
of 5- 10 kts.

Wednesday...VFR with some scattered showers possible at ACY,
MIV, and ILG. East to northeast winds around 5-10 kts.

&&

.MARINE...
Sub-advisory conditions expected to continue through tonight.
Northeast to east winds around 10 to 15 knots through the day,
becoming 5 to 10 knots overnight. Seas will be around 2 to 4
feet on the ocean and around 2 feet or less on the Delaware Bay.

Outlook...

Monday-Thursday...Waves will gradually be increasing through
Monday with SCA likely becoming necessary Monday afternoon. Seas
increase to 4 to 5 feet with gusts up to 25kts especially
across the Delaware Atlantic waters. Conditions start to relax
and and will drop below advisory levels Wednesday with easterly
winds less than 20kts and seas between 2-3 feet. By Thursday,
we'll see an increase in shower and thunderstorm potential.

Rip Currents...

Surface flow will become increasingly onshore through this
evening, with wind speeds generally 10 to 20 mph. However, waves
in the surf zone will likely remain 2 feet or lower through the
day. Thus, the rip current risk appears low for today
especially given that low tide during the early morning and
waters will be building during the morning and afternoon.

As east northeasterly flow is expected to continue on Monday,
seas will likely build sufficiently to raise the threat level to
moderate for the DE coastline where the swells will be more
normal to the shore with a low to moderate risk along the NJ
coastline where the swell will be more along shore rather than
shore normal.
