* WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level
expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
waterways.
* WHERE...In Pennsylvania, Delaware, Philadelphia and Lower
Bucks. In New Jersey, Gloucester, Northwestern Burlington and
Camden.
* WHEN...Until 4 AM EDT Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...At this level, flooding begins on the most
vulnerable roads along tidal waterways. Some partial or full
road closures are possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road
closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood.
Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to
costly repairs.

.SYNOPSIS...
A weak cold front is forecast to approach slowly from the west
today and it should arrive in our region tonight. The boundary
is forecast to drift slowly to our southeast on Tuesday and
Wednesday. Another cold front advancing from the northwest is
anticipated to pass through our region on Wednesday night, with
weak high pressure following for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
A third cold front may progress toward our area from the Great
Lakes on Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
930 update: Fog has dissipated and a relatively nice day is
expected before storms begin to fire over our western areas
around mid-afternoon.
Details from previous discussion below:
Once the fog lifts and burns off after sunrise, the first half
of the day will be pretty pleasant. Skies will be mostly clear
to partly cloudy to start the day, while temperatures warm close
to normal by the afternoon. However, as a cold front approaches
from the west during the afternoon, clouds will likely increase
and thicken, and dewpoints will increase some as the flow
becomes southwest by the afternoon. With the building warmth and
increasing moisture, instability will be developing this
afternoon with CAPE values reaching 500-1500 J/kg, with the
highest values across eastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware,
and northeastern Maryland. As the front approaches, a line of
showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to move into the
area from the west. Also, while not strong, shear will increase
to 25 to 30 knots, which may be enough to lead to some
organization of storms and create a few strong to severe storms.
Therefore SPC has portions of the area under a Marginal Risk
for severe weather, the main threat being strong/damaging winds.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM TUESDAY/...
The cold front will continue to slowly move across the area
through the evening and into the overnight hours. The line of
showers and thunderstorms will continue to progress eastward
through the evening, before weakening and dissipating as it
moves toward the coast overnight. There will remain some
instability with CAPE values of 500-1500 J/kg during the evening
hours, before diminishing overnight. So there will remain the
chance for strong thunderstorms for a few hours into the
evening, before the thunderstorm chances diminish through the
night. Once the front and showers move out of the area, patchy
fog may develop later in the night, especially where it rains
during the day and evening hours and skies clear and winds
become light.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
A strong mid level ridge over the western states and troughing
over the east is expected for Tuesday and Wednesday. The pattern
is forecast to de-amplify a bit for the late week and weekend
periods. Nevertheless, it should prevent temperatures in our
region from getting excessively warm. Highs should favor the 80s
with lows mostly in the 60s.
A weak cold front is anticipated to drift to our southeast on
Tuesday, allowing some relatively dry air to filter into our
region from the northwest. Dew point readings are expected to
drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s under a mostly sunny sky.
The weakening frontal boundary to our southeast may drift back
toward our region on Wednesday. As a result, there is a chance
of showers and thunderstorms in northeastern Maryland, Delaware
and southern New Jersey at that time.
A second cold front is forecast to approach from the northwest
on Wednesday and it should pass through our region on Wednesday
night. We are not anticipating any precipitation with the front.
It should be followed by a reinforcing shot of dry air for
Thursday.
Weak high pressure is expected to influence our weather for
Friday and Saturday.
A mid level short wave trough and it associated surface cold
front may approach from the northwest on Sunday, bringing the
potential for showers and thunderstorms.

The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...After any MVFR or IFR fog burns off after sunrise, the
rest of the day will stay VFR. A line of showers and isolated
thunderstorms will approach from the west late this afternoon,
but likely not make it to any TAF site until the evening hours.

Winds will be light and variable to start the day, then become
south to southwest 5-10 knots by later this morning into the
afternoon.

Tonight...Generally VFR conditions are expected to start the
evening hours, except where showers and isolated thunderstorms
occur. The showers/thunderstorms are expected at ABE/RDG between
22z-01z, at ILG/PHL/PNE/TTN between 00z-04z, and at MIV/ACY
between 02z-06z before they dissipate and move offshore. Patchy
fog may develop again overnight, leading to MVFR conditions.

Today...Small Craft Advisory remains on the ocean today as seas
begin the day 6-8 feet, but subside to 4-6 feet through the
day. Winds will shift from the north early today, to the
southeast by this afternoon. Speeds will mostly be 10-15 knots,
with gusts around 20 knots at times.
Tonight...Winds will remain below advisory levels tonight, but
will gust around 20 knots at times as they shift from southeast
to southwest through the night. Seas will subside to 4 feet or
less in the evening and remain below advisory levels through the
night. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms
which could lead to locally higher winds and waves.
Outlook...
Tuesday through Friday...No marine headlines are anticipated.
Rip currents...
For today, waves over the ocean subside to 4-6 feet and the
swell will be around 6-8 seconds. Northerly winds of 10-15 mph
will become southeast around 10 mph later in the day. This will
lead to a moderate risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents.
For Tuesday, waves over the ocean subside to 3-4 feet and the
swell will become 9-11 seconds. Winds will begin the day out of
the west around 10 mph, then shift to the southwest around 10
mph during the day. This will lead to a moderate risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Widespread minor tidal flooding occurred along the coasts of
New Jersey and Delaware, along Delaware Bay and into the tidal
Delaware River on Sunday evening and overnight.
Tidal departures should remain in the +1.5 to +1.7 foot range
with this morning's high tide. However, the astronomical tide
levels are about a foot lower than those in the evening, so no
more than some spotty minor flooding is anticipated for this
morning.
Winds are forecast to veer from the north this morning to the
southeast and south this afternoon. Due to the lack of a
westerly component to the wind, not much water will be pushed
away from the coast today. Another round of widespread minor
flooding is expected with this evening's high tide. We have
decided to issue another Coastal Flood Advisory to cover the
situation.
While water levels have become elevated on parts of Chesapeake
Bay, no flooding issues are expected in the tidal areas of
Maryland's upper eastern shore.
