  Minnesota River at Montevideo affecting Chippewa...Lac qui Parle and
  Yellow Medicine Counties 
  Minnesota River at Savage affecting Dakota...Hennepin and Scott 
  Counties 
  South Fork Crow River below Mayer affecting Carver County 
  Redwood River near Redwood Falls affecting Redwood County

  Minnesota River near Jordan affecting Carver and Scott Counties 

.Overview...Most area rivers are expected to level off or decrease 
over the next several days. The depleted snowpack and lack of 
forecast precipitation during this time period are the primary 
causes for the relief. However, the next couple of weeks look to be 
wetter than normal and ice jams are possible. Therefore, additional 
rises are possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

will see if additional precipitation will cause more river

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Saturday)

A pair of low pressure centers sit near and to the west of MN/WI
this morning, one over southern Manitoba province and another over
south-central South Dakota. A cold front linking the two lows is
approaching from the west. A developing band of mainly rain,
though low-level temperatures may push to produce light snow out
of it, is arriving from the Dakotas. Precipitation will gradually
spread east southeast across the WFO MPX coverage area this
morning, with most (if not all) the precipitation coming as rain.
In addition, a cluster of rain over far southern MN into northern
IA, shifting eastward early this morning, is showing signs of
convection as a few lightning strikes have been recorded. The
southern area of showers/thunderstorms will be away from the area
by daybreak while the western area of mainly rain progresses
across the area. This precipitation will persist through the
morning then gradually dissipate this afternoon, with liquid QPF
totals between 0.05"-0.15". The ending of the precipitation will
coincide with the passage of the cold front through the area,
moving into lower Michigan by late this afternoon. The only other
issue with this frontal passage will be strong winds. Northwest
winds will increase to 15-25mph with gusts 30-40mph, strongest
over southwestern MN, late this morning into the early evening
hours.

Winds will diminish and skies will slowly clear out this evening
through the early morning hours as colder western Canadian high
pressure drops into the region tonight through Friday. This will
result in appreciable cold air advection for Friday through
Saturday. Despite clearing skies on Friday, highs will only range
from the mid 20s to upper 30s across the WFO MPX coverage area. A
weak upper level disturbance drifting southeast through the region
Friday night into Saturday morning may be enough to produce some
snow showers over far southwestern MN but this will be of little
consequence. Mostly cloudy skies will then remain in place on
Saturday, along with the colder air. Highs on Saturday will again
range from the mid 20s to the mid 30s.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday night through Wednesday)

The southern stream will remain the active jet stream through the
weekend into early next week, taking control of a low pressure
system moving onshore the Pac NW Friday. The system will drop
southeast into the central Rockies over the weekend then shift
further southeast across the mid-Mississippi River Valley Monday-
Tuesday. A weak trough axis in advance of the low will produce
some minor rain/snow showers over the area, mainly central MN and
northward, Sunday night into Monday. This will be followed by a
modified western Canadian high pressure airmass which will make
for dry conditions across the region Monday night through Tuesday
night. The emphasis here is on the modified part because
temperatures will remain seasonably mild throughout the early
part of next week. Highs will generally run from the mid 30s to
the mid 40s.

The middle of next week continues to run rampant with uncertainty
as the operational GFS and ECMWF continue to show different
solutions each model run. At this point, there is better agreement
in a more organized storm system moving across the central CONUS,
with a greater rain look than snow look. However, as shown over
the past couple days, what was evident on the models in days 6-7
disappears by the time it becomes days 4-5 so it is difficult to
latch onto any one particular set of solutions.

Precipitation should rapidly exit Minnesota, and into west central
Wisconsin in the next couple of hours. Lingering -ra/dz/sn will be
possible, but not enough to restrict vsby. VFR cigs will spread
across western Minnesota this afternoon, but some moisture from
the precipitation and residual moisture in the boundary layer,
should continue some MVFR cigs during the afternoon. However,
confidence on timing or a period of VFR is uncertain. If
conditions warrant TAFs will be updated with the predominate
category. Gusty winds will continue, with highest gusts in the
28-32 kt range over western/southern Minnesota. The gusty will
will continue overnight, but the gusts will decrease in speed.

KMSP...

An hour or less of -ra, mixed with snow at times will continue
with high confidence. Lower confidence on when VFR conditions will
develop this afternoon. There could even be an hour or two of VFR
conditions with the amount of mixing expected. The gusty winds
will continue this afternoon, through tonight from the NW.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central and
southern Minnesota...and west central Wisconsin.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Breezy conditions can be expected from late this morning through
early this evening. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts
of 30 to 40 mph may produce hazardous travel conditions for high
profile vehicles. Highest wind speeds will be in western and
southwestern Minnesota.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

River flooding from snowmelt will continue this week. The
greatest impacts are expected in southern Minnesota, including
the Cottonwood and Redwood Rivers into the mainstem Minnesota
River, as well as some tributaries of the Mississippi. Ice is
still present on many rivers with ice jam flooding possible.
