...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON
TO 11 PM MST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...North winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph 
  expected.

* WHERE...Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains in Texas.

* WHEN...From 5 PM this afternoon to 11 PM MST this evening.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. 
  Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be 
  difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around
trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of
your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if
you must drive.

.DISCUSSION...

An upper level trough is over the Rocky Mountains and the Northern
and Central Plains. The base of the trough is over Southeast New
Mexico and West Texas which has resulted in breezy southwest winds
across the area. The upper trough will continue to dig southward
today and will result in a cold front moving into the area this
afternoon. Gusty northerly winds are expected to result in high
winds through Guadalupe Pass this evening so a High Wind Warning has
been issued. Clear skies and light winds will result in temperatures
cooling into the 20s across most of the area tonight.

The upper trough will begin to pass to the east on Thursday with
temperatures across the area remaining cool with highs mostly in the
50s. Temperatures begin to warm up a little on Friday as southerly
winds return. The warming trend continues through the weekend with
temperatures in the 60s and 70s aided by westerly winds. A cold
front associated with an upper trough moving over the Upper Midwest
is expected to move into the area Sunday night. This front will
result in temperatures cooling to near normal for Monday. An upper
trough will approach the region on Tuesday and will result in a
chance of rain across north and eastern portions of the area. The
ECMWF is indicating possible wintry precipitation but will wait
until models come into better agreement before changing the
forecast. Precipitation chances continue into Wednesday with
temperatures near normal.

.FIRE WEATHER...

A cold front will bring a short period of elevated fire weather
conditions this afternoon for much of the region. Even though
temperatures will be near normal today, very dry air will invade the
area with RH's falling below 15 percent. Winds will also increase to
15 to 20 mph behind a cold front this afternoon. Will issue an RFD
for most of the area to account for the elevated fire danger which
will promote a period of IA conditions. Very dry air remains in
place Thursday with another afternoon of elevated fire danger
possible, mainly for the northeast Permian Basin.
