.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 115 AM EST Sun Nov 15 2020

Rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected through much of the
day today, becoming more showery in nature towards the afternoon
hours. Southerly winds will shift west behind a strong front
today, which will bring wind gusts to around 45 to 55 mph during
the day. Significant beach erosion and lakeshore flooding are
expected along Lake Michigan.

.SHORT TERM...(This Evening through Sunday)
Issued at 317 PM EST Sat Nov 14 2020

A very active short term period is beginning to unfold this
afternoon which will continue into Sunday evening.

Water vapor imagery this afternoon indicating a couple of pronounced
short waves, one digging south across Wyoming and another tied into
strong eastern Pacific jet energy migrating across the northern
Rockies. These PV anomalies should tend to merge across the Mid MS
Valley by morning. Expansive area of isentropic lift/positive theta-
e advection persists this afternoon in association with
strengthening downstream southerly flow and a very strong moisture
gradient lifting up from the south. Some of the initial lift with
this advective forcing is being spent on top down saturation but as
low level jet continues to strengthen through this evening would
expect sufficient low level moistening for rain to overspread much
of the area. Temperatures somewhat tricky through the remainder of
the afternoon due to the competing effects of the warm advection and
the prolonged evaporative cooling processes occurring with the dry
air. Still expecting min temps for tonight be experienced early this
evening with rising temps later this evening into the overnight.

Rain should expand tonight as subtle pre-frontal trough feature and
axis of low level moisture convergence with the low level jet aid in
precip development. Mid/upper level support increases late evening
and overnight as the 150 knot upper jet streak from northwest CONUS
cuts through base of Central Plains through. Near term guidance is
still in good agreement in this trough acquiring slight negative
tilt by Sunday morning as local area becomes situated in strong DPVA
zone downstream of this vort max. Expecting additional
showers/isolated storms to develop along associated cold front as it
tracks west to east across the area in the 10Z-14Z timeframe.

Strong surface pressure falls with this deepening system will lift
north into the Great Lakes overnight which should cause ramp up in
south-southwest flow after 06Z. While severe weather is not
expected, some concern with the pre-frontally forced
showers/isolated storms of some localized mixing of higher end gusts
to the sfc given the 55 to 65 knot low level jet overhead. Given
these two above factors overnight, the 06Z start time for the wind
advisory looks reasonable.

Cold front will work its way across the area in the 10Z-14Z
timeframe with decent pressure rise surge behind the front and some
concern of brief enhanced mixing of these stronger winds aloft
immediately behind the front.

Mixed layer deepens on Sunday in post-frontal cold advection with
details in exact sfc wind speeds/gusts depending on exact location
and magnitude of deepening of this system across the northern Great
Lakes. Widespread gusts of 45+ mph look to be of very high
confidence, with forecast mixing profiles (50 knot winds @ 1500 ft
agl) still looking supportive of higher end wind advisory conditions
and gusts to 50 to 55 mph. Cannot completely rule out few gusts to
60 mph for a time Sunday morning-early afternoon particularly across
far northern Indiana and southern Lower Michigan. Given lower
confidence with warning level gusts and uncertainty in timing, will
likely hold with wind advisory headlines at this time.

The Lakeshore Flood Watches have been transitioned to a Lakeshore
Flood Warning for Berrien Co and Lakeshore Flood Advisory for La
Porte Co as greatest impacts should be experienced across southwest
Lower Michigan given westerly fetch. Upon collaboration with
surrounding Great Lakes office, have embedded a Storm Warning in the
nearshore waters from 10Z-21Z with Gale Warning continuing for first
part of tonight and after the storm warning into Sunday evening.

Rain should lessen in coverage Sunday morning but another northern
stream vort phasing in with primary upper trough may temporarily
sharpen deformation forcing as this system pulls away. This should
lead a brief window of scattered lake enhanced rain showers across
southern Lower Michigan early Sunday afternoon.

Conditions to quiet down (although still windy) Sunday evening as
low level height gradient and mixing depths gradually subside
overnight.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday Night through Saturday)

Long term period still looking uneventful for the most part. A
clipper type system is expected to shift across the western Great
Lakes on Monday, but not expecting this short wave to have much in
the way of moisture to work with. Below normal temperatures to
characterize this period with temp roller coaster ride continuing
by Thursday and Friday as longwave western CONUS ridge shifts east.
Temps are expected to moderate back to the upper 50s to around 60 by
late next work week.

Issued at 115 AM EST Sun Nov 15 2020

Primarily VFR to MVFR conditions are expected at both KSBN/KFWA
tonight into Sunday night, with a few potential drops to IFR
possible in any heavier showers or thunderstorms. Rain will be on
and off through the period, with an isolated thunderstorms possible,
mainly at KSBN. The main concern will be the gusty winds, with LLWS
at both TAF sites thanks to a potent LLJ ahead of the approaching
occluded low through this morning. S-SE winds are already gusting
into the 25 to 30 knot range across the area, and will only increase
as they shift west behind the cold front late this morning into the
afternoon hours. Strong isentropic descent coupled with daytime
mixing and a decent pressure/rise couplet will bring gusts into the
35 to 45 knot range at times during the late morning and afternoon
hours. Winds will diminish slightly overnight, but gusts will remain
around 30 knots.

...A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT ALLEN...SOUTHEASTERN
WABASH...GRANT...EASTERN WHITLEY...BLACKFORD...HUNTINGTON...WELLS...
ADAMS AND JAY COUNTIES...

At 245 AM EST, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from 7 miles south of Columbia City to near
Windfall City. Movement was east at 50 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail are possible with these
storms.

Locations impacted include...
Fort Wayne, Marion, Huntington, New Haven, Bluffton, Decatur,
Columbia City, Portland, Hartford City, Gas City, Berne, Upland,
Ossian, Fairmount, Dunkirk, Huntertown, Montpelier, Churubusco,
Jonesboro and Woodburn.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 469 between mile markers 0 and 30.
 Interstate 69 in Indiana between mile markers 252 and 320.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
