...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...


.Minor to moderate flooding continued Saturday morning in 
central and southern Indiana on the major rivers. Crests will be/are 
comparable to those that occurred in February and June of 2019.

Mixed precipitation yesterday and today has totaled up to about 
1.50 inches, which will slow river falls or bring lower secondary 
crests.  Flooding may recur at Seymour on the East Fork White River 
and Spencer on the White River.

The main crest on the Wabash River has backtracked to Hutsonville 
from Riverton.  The river was cresting at Riverton on Friday, but 
now with the additional precipitation runoff the crest will be 
delayed until Sunday afternoon.  Vincennes will crest at 20.8 
feet Monday afternoon.  Mount Carmel will crest Monday at 28.0 
feet.  The White River is cresting at Petersburg and Hazleton.
The crest on the East Fork White is now downstream of Shoals.

Flooding along the lower portions of the White and Wabash Rivers 
will continue until the last few days of the month.

Our next precipitation event is forecast to come Friday, thus we 
will have 5 plus days of dry weather allowing drainage of area 
waterways.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 22.9 feet...A 25 foot section of Levee Unit 8 failed at this 
  level on March 6 2011...flooding local roads behind the  levee.  
  Flooding not nearly as bad as June 2008 levee failure.  Flooding 
  was very close to one of the June 2008 failures.

* At 20.7 feet...Leaverton Park at Palestine, Illinois extensively 
  floods including the campground area.  Rodeo area still dry at this
  level. Most if not all local unimproved roads leading to the Wabash
  River in the Palestine area are impassable by any land vehicle.  
  Extensive backwater flooding of Minnow Slough, Sugar Creek and 
  Lamotte Creek in Palestine area. Numerous river cabins surrounded 
  by water across the river from Merom Bluff. Backyards of a few 
  residences southeast of Palestine along East River Road flood.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways

.Minor to moderate flooding continued Sunday morning in central and 
southern Indiana on the major rivers.  Crests will be/are comparable 
to those that occurred in February and June of 2019.  Minor 
flooding developed late Saturday afternoon on the Eel River that 
will come to an end this afternoon.

A mix of precipitation Friday and Saturday totaled as high as 
approximately 1.50 inches, which will slow river falls or bring 
lower secondary crests on the major rivers, and produce additional 
minor flooding on smaller ones.  Flooding has returned to Seymour on 
the East Fork White River, and this afternoon it will return to 
Spencer on the White River.  The Driftwood River near Edinburgh will 
be near bankfull, with a crest near flood stage Sunday morning.

Flooding along the lower portions of the White and Wabash Rivers will 
continue until about Wednesday, January 29.

Little or no precipitation is forecast through midday Thursday.  This 
will give area waterways several days to drain and return to near 
normal levels.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  feet of water.  During the January 2005 flood...this area would 
  have been near the "bottom" of the river...underwater by nearly 17 
  feet.  In the great March 1913 flood...more than 25 feet of water 
  would have covered this location.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...


.Minor to moderate flooding continued Sunday afternoon in central 
and southern Indiana on the major rivers.  Primary crests will 
be/are comparable to those that occurred in February and June of 
2019.  Brief flooding on the Eel River that developed Saturday came 
to end early this afternoon.

A mix of precipitation Friday and Saturday totaled as high as 
approximately 1.50 inches, which is slowing river falls in some 
cases and bringing lower secondary crests in other cases on the 
major rivers.  Flooding has returned to Seymour on the East Fork 
White River, and this afternoon it will return to Spencer on the 
White River.  The Driftwood River near Edinburgh will be near 
bankfull, with a crest near flood stage Sunday morning.

Flooding along the lower portions of the White and Wabash Rivers 
will continue until about Wednesday, January 29.

Little or no precipitation is forecast through midday Thursday.  
This will give area waterways several days to drain and return to 
near normal levels.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...

.Minor to moderate flooding continued Sunday night in central 
and southern Indiana on the major rivers.  Primary crests will 
be/are comparable to those that occurred in February and June of 
2019.  Flooding on lower portions of the East Fork White came to an 
end earlier this evening.

A mix of precipitation Friday and Saturday totaled around an inch to 
an inch and a half across the basin, which is slowing 
river falls in some cases and bringing lower secondary crests in 
other cases on the major rivers.  While flooding on much of 
the East Fork White has ended, flooding is expected to continue at 
Seymour on the East Fork White until Wednesday morning.

Flooding along the lower portions of the White and Wabash Rivers 
will continue until about Wednesday, January 29.

Little or no precipitation is forecast through midday Thursday.  
This will give area waterways several days to drain and return to 
near normal levels.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...

.Minor to moderate flooding continued Sunday night in central 
and southern Indiana on the major rivers.  Primary crests will 
be/are comparable to those that occurred in February and June of 
2019.  

The crest of the East Fork of the White River is near Seymour on 
Monday. The river at Seymour is expected to fall below flood stage 
Tuesday evening. 

Flooding along the lower portions of the White and Wabash Rivers 
will continue until about Wednesday, January 29.

Little or no precipitation is forecast through midday Thursday.  
This will give area waterways several days to drain and return to 
near normal levels.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 20.7 feet...Leaverton Park at Palestine, Illinois extensively 
  floods including the campground area.  Rodeo area still dry at this
  level. Most if not all local unimproved roads leading to the Wabash
  River in the Palestine area are impassable by any land vehicle.  
  Extensive backwater flooding of Minnow Slough, Sugar Creek and 
  Lamotte Creek in Palestine area. Numerous river cabins surrounded 
  by water across the river from Merom Bluff. Backyards of a few 
  residences southeast of Palestine along East River Road flood.

.The East Fork White River at Seymour in central Indiana fell below 
flood stage early this afternoon and it will continue falling for 
the foreseeable future.  Precipitation late this week could bring a 
small rise to the river.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Be alert to flood debris on previously flooded roads. Keep children 
away from flooded areas. Recreational and agricultural interests 
should remain alert to changing river conditions.

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 317 PM EST Fri Jan 17 2020

A strong low pressure system moving through the Plains and Great
Lakes will bring a mixed bag of precipitation to central Indiana
to start off the weekend. Snow, later will mix with sleet, then
transition to freezing rain and then rain all over the next 18
hours or so. Should see some light snow and ice accumulations
tonight along with up to an inch or so of rain before the system
exits Saturday night. Gusty winds around 40 mph can also be
expected on Saturday.

After this system exits, much colder air will arrive in its wake
and stick around through Tuesday along with keeping conditions dry.
By Wednesday though another warm up will begin and new precip
chances arrive near the end of the week.

.NEAR TERM /Tonight/...

Issued at 317 PM EST Fri Jan 17 2020

While radar shows echoes across central Indiana and much of
Illinois at 330 pm, precipitation is having a hard time making it
to the ground due to all the dry air advecting in at the surface
and mid levels off of easterly component flow. Forecast soundings
show saturation taking at least a few hours to occur from the top
down. Soundings are cold enough for snow to be the initial precip
type in all but perhaps the southernmost counties. From here,
warming aloft will allow some sleet to mix in, and eventually
during the night enough warming from a strong low level jet will
bring the entire column above freezing with rain as the result.
This should occur by 4 am (if not before) over southern parts of
the advisory area and by 7 am over the northernmost parts of the
advisory area. When all is said and done, looking at an inch or so
of snow accumulation possible in the northern counties, with less
heading south. Depending on how long it takes sleet to mix in,
these numbers could be even lower. Ice accumulation of around a
tenth of an inch or less could occur before enough warming takes
place to get above freezing, but this should melt away with
climbing temperatures early Saturday morning.

Could see some wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph during the overnight
hours, but most of the energy shouldn't be able to mix down given
the inversion so these should be sporadic at worst.

Current temperatures from the mid 20s to lower 30s could drop a
couple degrees as the precipitation moves in aloft, but after that
expect to see rising temperatures through much of the night. Thus
lows will likely be near where the temperatures are currently.

.SHORT TERM /Saturday through Saturday night/...

Warm advection will be in full force as Saturday morning begins.
Temperatures across the entire area should be above freezing and
precipitation from the strong isentropic forcing should fall in
the form of rain. With ample warm, moist advection ahead of the
cold front, rainfall totals around half an inch to an inch are
reasonable. The cold front is progged to arrive in the western
counties during the late morning and to pass through eastern
Indiana by early afternoon. This should bring any substantial
precipitation to an end as colder drier air is ushered in.
However, the back edge of the upper trough moving through during
the afternoon could lead to some light snow or a rain/snow mix for
a few hours during the late afternoon/evening. Once this forcing
moves out, dry weather will build in to the area. Strong cold
advection will ramp up with a tight pressure gradient over the
area, and low temperatures Saturday night will dip into the single
digits to middle teens and wind chills from near to below zero.
At this point, any rain/moisture left on the ground from earlier
precipitation will have the potential to flash freeze.

.LONG TERM /Sunday through Friday/...

Dry weather is expected across the period with some of the
coldest temperatures of the season so far. The upper level low
pressure system that will bring precipitation to the area tonight
and tomorrow will have exited by Sunday morning with high pressure
building during the day. Morning lows will be in the single
digits to low teens Sunday and Monday morning with wind chills
near 0.

Temperatures will gradually warm back towards more seasonable
temperatures by the middle of the week with southerly winds
brining warmer air to the area by Thursday. An upper level low
pressure system will move through late this week bringing
precipitation to the area. Confidence on timing and strength of
the system is low, so plan on keeping POPs fairly low and
broadbrushed at this time.

Temperatures are expected to be well below average early next week
with more seasonable temperatures by the middle of the week. Temps
will be above average Friday and into the weekend.

.AVIATION /Discussion for the 18/03Z TAF Update/...

Previous Discussion...
A wintry mix will overspread the TAF sites within the next few
hours before eventually transitioning to freezing rain then all
rain overnight. VFR conditions should hold into early tonight
before falling to MVFR after Sat 06Z. They will eventually
deteriorate even further to IFR shortly after daybreak Saturday
with little improvement until Saturday afternoon when MVFR
conditions return. Meanwhile, winds will be strong and southerly.
Sustained speeds will range between 12 to 15 kts with gusts to 27
kts, increasing to 15 to 20 kts with gusts to 34 kts after
daybreak Saturday. Low level wind shear will also be a threat
tonight and tomorrow with a strong low level jet moving through
central Indiana.

Timing: Light snow should begin after 5 PM in the western counties

around 7-9 PM, and finally becoming all rain during the overnight
hours. Flooding will continue into next week.

Discussion: Lowland flooding along area rivers will continue into
