.SHORT TERM...(This afternoon through Sunday night)

Visible satellite imagery shows clouds continue to move into the
region this afternoon. A dryline remains over the eastern part of
the CWA this afternoon while a cold front is slowly making its way
into the area from the west. Expect cloud cover to continue to
increase in the coming hours as the cold front continues to track
into the region.
Indications of blowing dust has been picked up on satellite this
afternoon and verified through cameras in areas to the west of the
Tri-State area. With winds coming in from the northwest behind the
cold front, blowing dust will be a possibility this afternoon across
our CWA. Expect reductions to visibility in areas where blowing
dust is present.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the entire Tri-State area
this afternoon into early evening. Relative humidity values will be
in the single digits to low teens across much of the area. Winds
will continue to increase as the front moves through. Any fires
that begin will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not advised.
Observations west of the area have shown that a few places have had
some showers as the front moved into the region. While unlikely, an
isolated shower or thunderstorm cannot be entirely ruled out for the
north eastern portion of the forecast area late this afternoon and
evening in the vicinity of the front where DCAPE will briefly be up
to 1100+ J/kg. Severe weather is not anticipated at this time.
Windy conditions will continue into the evening with rapid pressure
rises in the area. Winds are expected to decrease after midnight.
As winds decrease and skies clear, temperatures will drop into the
30s overnight. This will leave the potential for frost to develop
in areas. Currently expecting winds to be enough to keep things
above freezing for most of the night, however, a few areas could see
an hour with temperatures at freezing.
.LONG TERM...(Monday through Sunday)

A somewhat cooler day is expected on Monday after the previous day's
frontal passage. Dry air will advect into the area, with relative
humidities as low as 10 to 15 percent across the entire region.
Southwest winds look to gust around 30 mph across the northwestern
half of the area leading to critical fire weather conditions. As a
result a Red Flag Warning has been issued for these locations.
As a surface trough moves through, a dry forecast continues Monday
night and again on Tuesday. Northwest flow prevails midweek with a
shortwave passing from the northern Rockies to the High Plains on
Wednesday. This should send a cold front through the area during the
day with a potential for some light showers Wednesday night north of
the Nebraska border. Will need to monitor this day for fire weather
conditions, especially since relative humidity values seem to fall
into the critical range for portions of the area once again. At this
time, it is uncertain if these low values and the breezier winds
from the front will be collocated.
Thursday looks to be the coolest day as cooler air filters into the
High Plains. Through the weekend, a deep trough develops in the
eastern CONUS as an upper ridge amplifies along the west coast,
keeping us dry in the familiar northwest flow pattern we have seen
recently.
Temperatures fluctuate throughout the period. Highs are forecast in
the 70s on Monday and Tuesday, followed by the 80s on Wednesday.
Thursday sees a drop into the 50s through low 60s, then a warming
trend to the 60s on Friday, and the 70s on Saturday. Some cooler
nights are ahead this week as well. By Wednesday night, much of the
region falls into the 30s/low 40s for the rest of the long term.
Some locations fall into the upper 20s Thursday night/Friday
morning, resulting in a good potential for a freeze.

VFR conditions are expected to persist at KGLD terminal through the
forecast period. Winds will increase this afternoon from northwest
to southeast as a cold front moves into the region. Winds will
become northwesterly this afternoon with sustained winds around
25kts gusting to 37kts by 22Z and 33kts gusting to 48kts by 00Z.
Between 22Z and 05Z, blowing dust will be possible in the vicinity
of the terminal which may reduce visibility. Have lowered
visibility slightly during this timeframe, but have maintained VFR
conditions for now as confidence in widespread blowing dust in the
vicinity of the terminal is not high enough to make mention of sub-
VFR conditions. Winds will begin to decrease around midnight,
becoming northwest around 9kts by 07Z.
VFR conditions will continue at KMCK terminal through the TAF
period. Ongoing wildfires to the west combined with westerly to
northwesterly winds will bring a chance of some smoke filtering into
the area this afternoon. Have lowered visibility slightly to
account for this potential, however don't anticipate sub-VFR
conditions to become a concern at this time. Winds will gradually
increase this afternoon as a cold front moves into the region.
Northwesterly winds will be sustained around 14kts gusting to
22kts around 20Z and up to 33kts gusting to 48kts around 00Z.
there is a potential for some blowing dust in the vicinity of the
terminal from around 00Z to 04Z. Have lowered visibility slightly,
but maintained VFR conditions for now as confidence is not high
enough in coverage of blowing dust to merit mentioning in
prevailing conditions for now. Winds will begin to decrease around
04Z, becoming northwesterly at 20kts gusting to 29kts and falling
to around 10kts (sustained) after midnight.
