394 WWUS84 KEWX 120920 RFWEWX URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 420 AM CDT Sun Apr 12 2020 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR STRONG WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR PORTIONS OF THE RIO GRANDE PLAINS AND INCLUDING VAL VERDE COUNTY... .Strong west winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected in the wake of a cold front. A very dry airmass will surge into the area with relative humidity values dropping to the teens and low 20s late this morning and afternoon. The combination of strong winds and low relative humidity values will create critical fire weather conditions. As a result, the Fire Weather Watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for the Rio Grande Plains and Val Verde County. Winds will rapidly decrease after 8 pm and humidity will slowly recover. However, another front arrives in the late evening, leading to shifty winds which could create additional concerns in the overnight hours should wildfires develop. This Red Flag Warning replaces the Fire Weather Watch, which is no longer in effect. * WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...15 to 20 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended Sunday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly.
