.SYNOPSIS...A gradual warming trend is expected over the course
of the week, with well above normal temperatures expected for
interior areas Thursday through the weekend. Mostly dry conditions
are also expected, the only exception being potentially some very
light showers along the Del Norte and Humboldt coasts this evening
and Wednesday.

.DISCUSSION...With the exception of some high level cirrus clouds
and patchy valley clouds, skies are generally clear throughout the
region early this morning. This allowed temperatures to drop
quite low throughout interior valleys overnight, with readings
dipping as low as the low 30s in Trinity County valleys, and mid
30s to low 40s elsewhere. As a result, areas of frost are likely,
which will diminish within an hour or two after sunrise, and
slightly longer in shaded areas.
Today will begin a very gradual, weeklong warming trend throughout
interior areas as high pressure slowly builds across the western
U.S. Temperatures today through Wednesday will likely rise into
the 70s across interior valleys, to perhaps near 80 degrees in
some of the warmer spots. Coastal areas will remain generally in
the upper 50s to perhaps mid 60s. Two weak cold fronts will help
to slow this warming trend a bit, arriving this evening and
Wednesday, respectively, but will only produce some light drizzly
precipitation in mainly coastal Del Norte and Humboldt counties.
With those two minor speedbumps out of the way, temperatures will
begin a more noticeable upward trend on Thursday, and this will
continue through the weekend. Afternoon highs are likely to climb
into the upper 80s to low 90s across interior valleys, which is
well above normal for early May, with no precipitation expected. By
early next week, the ridge of high pressure will begin to shift
to the east, which will likely lead to cooler temperatures and
perhaps the return of precipitation, albeit likely only light.
