.SYNOPSIS...
Mainly dry and less humid conditions across the region today with
temperatures remaining above normal for one more day, before another
stronger cold front crosses the region tonight with a few more
showers. This front will usher in much cooler weather for Friday and
Saturday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A weak wave will pass by to our south today with the majority
of the forcing and deeper moisture remaining across PA. Although
a light shower or two may reach areas over the far interior
Southern Tier near the PA state line this afternoon, dry weather
is expected for the bulk of the day. Otherwise, this weak wave
of low pressure and associated upper level jet dynamics will
spread a thicker canopy of mid and high clouds across the
Southern Tier and Finger Lakes, with some thinner cirrus further
north. Daytime highs will be similar to yesterday, with lower
80s across the lower elevations south of Lake Ontario and mid to
upper 70s for the higher terrain. However, significantly lower
humidity levels will make it 'feel' much more comfortable this
afternoon. Meanwhile, increasing momentum off the deck will
start to mix down this afternoon across the Niagara Peninsula
and eastern Lake Erie. This will allow for sustained winds over
the water to jump up to 10-15 kts with gusts increasing over
land this afternoon toward 20 kts around Buffalo and Niagara
Falls.

Primary cold front associated with strong low pressure moving
northeast across James Bay will swing through tonight. Primary
forcing will remain north of the Canadian border and with little to
no instability over our forecast area, expect just the chance for
some showers along and ahead of the boundary as it pushes southeast
through the area overnight. Low temperatures will bottom out in the
mid 50s to around 60.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Surface high pressure will start to build in from the southwest in
the wake of a cold front on Friday, with 850Ts plunging to around
+5C to +6C by Friday night. Aloft, the base of the main upper trough
will pass across Lake Ontario and the North Country Friday and
Friday night. The combination of the cyclonic flow and cool
temperatures aloft will be enough to generate lake induced
cloudiness and possibly a few scattered showers east of Lake
Ontario. Drier air and increased subsidence across areas south of
Lake Ontario associated with the surface high building in from the
southwest should keep things dry there, aside from a few extra
clouds downwind of Lake Erie.

Broad surface high pressure will continue to build over the Mid-
Atlantic before spreading northward into New England. This will
maintain mainly dry weather during the weekend, however the cyclonic
flow aloft may result in some clouds.

It will be notably cooler during the period with high temperatures
in the upper 60s to lower 70s on Friday and Saturday, and a few
degrees warmer on Sunday. Likewise, overnight temperatures will dip
into the mid 40s to lower 50s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Early next week, a trough will begin to dig south across the central
United States with ridges on either side. Long range model guidance
suggests low pressure this trough is likely to sharpen and a cut-off
low may eventually develop. This would keep a frontal boundary
across the nations mid-section through Wednesday with a warm and
moist southerly flow developing across our region. A few showers or
thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, but the majority of the period
should be dry. Discrepancies remain across the model guidance
packages, with 00Z GFS/GGEM guidance forecasting a cut-off low while
the ECMWF does not.

.AVIATION /15Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Patchy fog will cause some local IFR conditions across the interior
Southern Tier through mid morning, including KJHW. Otherwise, dry
conditions expected through this morning with just some mid and
upper level clouds passing over the area.

Otherwise, VFR will prevail through the TAF period. A weak wave of
low pressure will pass just to the south of the area across PA, and
will continue to produce mid and high cloud decks across the region
today with a low chance of a shower near the PA state line this
afternoon. A cold front will approach the area this evening,
bringing a period of low VFR decks along and ahead of the boundary
mainly during the first half of the night, with some brief marginal
MVFR ceilings possible for a couple hours immediately preceding the
frontal passage.

Outlook...

Tonight...VFR/MVFR with scattered showers.
Friday...VFR.
Saturday...VFR, except possible MVFR in lake effect clouds/light
showers east of the Lakes.
Sunday and Monday...VFR.

.MARINE...
Winds today will generally be 10 knots or less over most marine
with waves no more than a foot on both lakes as a weak area of
high pressure builds into the eastern Great Lakes. The exception
will be over eastern Lake Erie, where and increasing pressure
gradient later this afternoon will gradually allow winds to
start to increase into the 15 kt range, though still likely
below small craft advisory criteria.

A cold front will charge across the lower Great Lakes tonight.
Expect a brief surge of stronger winds along and just ahead of the
cold frontal passage tonight, with Small Craft Advisory winds and
waves possible on both lakes later tonight. Westerly winds will then
increase again Friday in the wake of the cold front, bringing an
increased potential for another round of Small Craft Advisory
conditions to both lakes.
