effect clouds at times, dry weather is expected through the weekend
and even into early next week as high pressure dominates our weather
pattern.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Lingering lake induced clouds this morning downwind of Lake Ontario,
perhaps even a few light showers. These clouds should dissipate
through the morning as canadian high pressure continues to
build in, though scattered fair weather cumulus is possible
south of Lake Ontario this afternoon.

It will be a chilly day under decent cold air advection with
850 mb temperatures falling to near 0C by late afternoon. High
temperatures today struggling to reach 60F, and probably not
much over 50F for higher terrain areas. A decent surface
pressure gradient will result in breezy northerly winds making
these much below normal temperatures feel even cooler.

Canadian high pressure will continue to settle into the region
tonight. Clear skies and diminishing north winds will bring
freezing temperatures to the North Country and interior portions
of the Southern Tier, while a widespread frost is likely for
areas inland from the lakes. Frost/Freeze headlines are outlined
below.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
High pressure over the Great Lakes will expand over the region for
the weekend, bringing quiet weather with mostly clear skies and
below normal temperatures. Cooling temperatures, clear skies, and
weak surface winds will bring at least the potential for a frost or
freeze inland from the lakes each night through Sunday night. Cold
air advection will bring 850H temperatures down to around -2C
through Saturday afternoon, with some even cooler temps to near -4C
possible for the North Country Saturday night. With the warm lake
water temperatures of 18C or more, there will be the potential for a
weak lake response south of the lakes, primarily in the form of lake
clouds through Saturday morning. The dry air mass and overall
synoptic subsidence associated with the incoming area of high
pressure should limit the lake response in what would be an
otherwise ideal scenario based on the delta T values approaching
20C.

Temperatures will be in the low 50s to near 60 from the higher
terrain to lower elevations respectively for daytime highs on
Saturday and Sunday, with a few upper 40s possible on Saturday in
the higher terrain of the Tug Hill. Temperatures Saturday and Sunday
night will be in the low 30s inland to around 40 closer to the
lakes. As of right now, best chance to see temps dip into the upper
30s even near the lakes would be Saturday night with high pressure
right overhead.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure will center over northern NY and southern Quebec
Sunday morning will it remain through Monday afternoon before
elongating along the Atlantic seaboard and centering over the
Southeast U.S. through the middle of the week. This will provide
fair quiet weather for most of the long term period with slow
day to day warming. A weak disturbance will bring the chance for
showers on Wednesday afternoon, but the best chance for showers
will be on Thursday afternoon into Thursday night as an
amplifying trough crosses the area.

High temperatures on Monday will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s; and
temperatures will warm to the mid 60s to mid 70s by Wednesday.
Temperatures will warm a bit more for Thursday to the upper 60s to
upper 70s.

.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
There will be lake effect stratus south of Lake Ontario this
morning, with a period of MVFR cigs at KROC and KJHW. Otherwise,
it will be dry with widespread VFR conditions today. Northerly
winds will increase to 15-20 knots by mid day, before
diminishing after sunset. Widespread VFR will continue
tonight, although local IFR in river valley fog is possible
across the Southern Tier.

Saturday through Tuesday...VFR, except local IFR in river valley fog
across the Southern Tier each late night and early morning.

.MARINE...
Cold advection will continue today as high pressure ridges into
the region from southern Ontario. A period of moderate to fresh
northeasterlies along with the cold air advection will keep
higher waves in place for many areas as outlined below.
