* Until 230 AM EDT.
* At 1030 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain has
already fallen in a short amount of time. Flash flooding is
expected to begin shortly in the areas of heaviest rain.
* Some locations that could experience flooding include...
Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Hellertown, Kutztown, Hamburg,
Topton, Shoemakersville, Lyons, Lenhartsville, Zionsville, Ancient
Oaks, Lehigh University, Claussville, Fountain Hill, Macungie,
Freemansburg, Coopersburg, Alburtis and Centerport.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
