.SYNOPSIS...
Deepening low pressure will move across the region this morning
into early afternoon. The low deepens as it moves into the
Canadian Maritimes tonight. Arctic high pressure will then
build in early next week. The next frontal system will approach
from the west on Wednesday, and may stall nearby Thursday into
Thursday night. Arctic high pressure is possible once again into
late week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Main direct impact with the storm is coming to an end. As drier
and colder air ushers in, any additional precipitation will
end. The Flash flood watch has expired. Attention then turns to
bitterly cold air working in from the NW. Will likely issue an
SPS or Special Weather Statement for black ice as standing
water freezes.

Will continue to monitor for reports of icing on roads. If
widespread, a winter weather advisory may be needed for flash
freeze conditions.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Dangerously cold air rushes in tonight. Temperatures will
plummet into the teens before midnight and then well into the
single digits to near 10 degrees early Monday morning. Blustery
NW winds will gust 25 to 35 mph, strongest near the coast. Wind
chills are likely to be as low as -15 across the interior and
around -10 further south near the coast.

These cold conditions continue on Monday as  deep upper cyclone
settles over New England. 1000-500 mb thicknesses approach 500
decameters. Temperatures struggle to rise during the day with
highs only in the low to mid teens. Wind chills in the morning
could range between -15 to -20 inland and around -10 near the
coast.

NW winds will increase through the day with gusts 30 to 40 mph
likely. Gusts around 45 mph could occur across Long Island and
New York City. A wind advisory may be needed in subsequent
forecast packages.

A wind chill advisory has been issued 06z Monday through 18z
Monday for Orange, Putnam, ,northern Westchester, western
Passaic, and all of interior southern Connecticut.

Arctic high pressure gradually builds from the west Monday
night. Lows fall into the single digits most locations to the
low teens in the city. Wind chills will still be dangerously
low, -5 to -12.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Some moderation of the air mass then occurs Tuesday into
Tuesday night as high pressure shifts east of the area, allowing
a return to southwest flow and at least subtle warm advection.

The next potential storm system then takes shape for mid week though
significant differences still exist in timing and track of the low
center. With initially sub freezing temperatures across portions of
the area, there is a possibility of wintry mix, particularly across
the interior. As the system departs Thursday into Friday, at least a
brief snowfall will be possible. Thereafter, expect a brief period
of gusty winds, followed by the possibility of another Arctic air
mass for late week.

.AVIATION /18Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Low pressure continues to move east of the area this afternoon,
then into the Canadian Maritimes tonight. High pressure begins
to build in from the west during the day on Monday.

Any remaining precipitation will rapidly lift to the northeast
through 20Z, with conditions improving to MVFR this afternoon
and VFR towards sunset. Improvement will take a bit longer at
KGON, where conditions will remain sub-VFR through this evening.
While the vast majority of any lingering precipitation is
falling in the form of rain, KSWF remains below freezing, so any
precipitation there this afternoon will be in the form of
freezing rain/drizzle.

With temperatures dropping rapidly in the wake of this system,
any water remaining on untreated surfaces late this afternoon
will be subject to refreezing.

Winds will continue to shift to the NW from west to east this
afternoon and become gusty. Gusts to 25-30 kt initially this
afternoon will increase to 30-35 kt by mid to late afternoon,
with city and coastal terminals gusting to around 35 kt this
evening. Strong gusty winds will continue through the day on
Monday, with gusts to around 35 kt expected at all terminals.

.OUTLOOK FOR 18Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...
.Monday-Monday night...VFR. NW winds G30-35KT. Gusts decrease
Monday night.
.Tuesday...VFR.
.Wednesday-Thursday...MVFR or lower developing in wintry mix
changing to rain Wednesday morning. Rain may then change back to a
wintry mix or snow before ending Thursday night. LLWS possible
Wednesday/Wednesday evening.
.Friday...VFR.

.MARINE...
With a deepening low pressure system expected to move through
the forecast waters late this afternoon, and then to the
northeast of the waters tonight, reaching the Canadian maritime
Monday morning, gale conditions will quickly develop late this
afternoon and continue at least through Monday.

Gale conditions remain across all the waters through at least
Monday. Gales will be likely at least into Monday evening across
the ocean waters east of Fire Island Inlet and the eastern Long
Island Sound and eastern bays, and the warning will likely be
extended. Across the remainder of the forecast waters SCA gusts
continue until late Monday night. Ocean seas will remain
elevated, above SCA, through Tuesday, with winds below SCA on
all but the eastern ocean waters as high pressure builds over
the waters. Tuesday night winds and seas will be below SCA
levels as high pressure drifts offshore, to the southeast of the
waters. Winds and seas return to at least SCA levels Wednesday
and Thursday as the next low pressure system impacts the
waters.

With temperatures falling to well below freezing tonight and
remaining well below freezing into Monday, along with gusty
northwest winds, and water temperatures in the lower 40s, light
freezing spray will be likely, and a freezing spray advisory has
been issued for the ocean waters tonight and Monday, and for the
Long Island Sound waters and eastern bays Monday.

.HYDROLOGY...
No additional flooding is expected this afternoon.

There is too much uncertainty to determine exact liquid amounts
and resulting impacts with mid to late week system.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
High tide has passed, so no additional coastal flooding is
anticipated.

Temperatures will plummet through tonight well below freezing. As
these temperatures fall, plenty of residual moisture and leftover
standing water on area roads will freeze, or remain frozen. This
will lead to areas of black ice. Anyone out driving or walking
should be prepared for slippery roads and walkways, and use extra
caution.

...BELOW ZERO WIND CHILLS TONIGHT AND MONDAY...

Falling temperatures tonight through the teens and into the single
digits in spots along with blustery northwest winds will result in
dangerously cold wind chills tonight into Monday morning. Wind
chill readings as low as -10 degrees are expected.

Temperatures will plummet through tonight well below freezing.
As these temperatures fall, plenty of residual moisture and
