.Overview...Rivers continue to receive runoff from the significant
rainfall seen on Wednesday and early Thursday morning, with the 
quick reacting rivers and streams pushing flood stage early, and 
mainstem rivers receiving increased flow from tributaries resulting
in further flooding. Another, much weaker precipitation chance arrives
on Saturday, with conditions hopefully drying out a bit through the weekend.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive cars through flooded areas.  Turn Around...Don't Drown.

next few days as the run-off from recent rains continues.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Friday)

The storm system that brought accumulating snow across central
Minnesota last night is quickly departing the region early this
morning. In the wake of the system, residual light rain, mixed with
light snow at times in central/east central Minnesota, will end by
noon today as most of the lift associated with this system,
departs the area. Temperatures will reflect the cloud cover in the
east as temperatures will struggle to rise above 50 degrees. In the
west, once some sun develops, will rise into the 50s, with a few 60s
possible in the far west.

The potential of frost still exists in central, and west central
Minnesota Friday morning. Farther to the east, the amount of cloud
cover, and slightly higher wind speeds, could minimize good
radiational cooling overnight. Again, the best potential of a
widespread frost will occur in southwest, west central, and central
Minnesota. These areas will have temperatures fall to near freezing
overnight, and winds will quickly lighten up after sunset.

Besides the frost potential, no other weather concerns on Friday
with winds becoming west/southwesterly ahead of the next system
affecting the Upper Midwest over the weekend.

.LONG TERM...(Friday night through Wednesday)

Models are still pointing toward Saturday for the next chance of
measurable precipitation as a mid level low pivots over the Upper
Midwest and pushes a frontal boundary across the area. Have
included likely POPS for showers and thunderstorms on Saturday
afternoon/night, and also increased wind speeds above the blend.
The main question with this system is regarding precipitation
ending time, given the spatial differences between the GFS and
ECMWF. The ECMWF features a more amplified low, and therefore
prolongs precipitation into Sunday. The GFS does indicate the
potential for some precip in the eastern part of the forecast area
on Sunday as the trough departs, but not as prolonged as the
ECMWF. For now will stick closer to the GFS given the ECMWF is
more of an outlier from the consensus.

After this system, mid-level ridging builds into the central CONUS
bringing a break from precipitation, along with moderating
temperatures into the beginning of next week. Weekend Highs/lows
in the 60s/40s respectively trend toward mid-May climatological
normals in the 70s by Tuesday. This warmup looks to occur in
response to the next approaching surface trough and attendant
transition to southwest flow, which brings another chance for
showers on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Friday morning)

Most of the IFR vsbys in ra/sn have moved out of MPX TAF area
overnight. MVFR vsbys in -sn/-ra/-dz will continue for most of
east central Minnesota, and into west central Wisconsin this
morning, with cigs lifting to MVFR/VFR by the late
afternoon/evening. TAFs across west central/central Minnesota will
see MVFR cigs lifting to VFR this afternoon with no precipitation
expected through the TAF period. Gusty north winds will become
more northwest this afternoon, and decrease toward sunset. Some
fog is possible late tonight, but confidence is low.

KMSP...

A few hours of -ra/-dz and cigs below 1.7 kft this morning.
Otherwise, cigs will rise above 1.7 kft during the afternoon with
VFR cigs by this evening.
