.Overview...Snowmelt is ongoing, with many rivers having already
crested as flow continues downstream.  Ice jams are still a nuisance
and will likely cause localized spikes and flooding. Continued snowmelt
from a warm few days this week will accelerate flooding in parts
of western and southwestern MN especially.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive cars through flooded areas.  Turn Around...Don't Drown.

* Impact...At 19.0 feet...Sanitary sewers may need plugging at this 
  stage to prevent water from backing up into homes.
* Impact...At 18.5 feet...When river reaches 18.5 ft and is rising, 
  flood walls may be installed on both sides of Bridge Ave in Delano.
* Impact...At 18.4 feet...The southwest part of Delano begins to 
  experience flooding.
* Impact...At 16.9 feet...Storms sewers may need plugging to prevent 
  river water from backing up into city streets.

Surface analysis early this morning shows a low pressure system
over the Ohio River Valley with a sweeping cold front over the
mid- Mississippi River Valley into the Deep South. Expanding high
pressure is centered over southern Manitoba province. Aloft,
longwave troughing persists over eastern NOAM while ridging builds
over western NOAM, placing the Upper Mississippi River Valley
region solidly within northwest flow. Over the next 24-36 hours,
the main change to the upper level pattern will be to have the
western ridge shift slightly eastward, taking up more of the
central CONUS. Meanwhile, the surface high pressure area will
slowly slide to the southeast, with the center shifting across
both MN and WI through tonight then across MI on Tuesday. This
will allow for skies to gradually clear out through the morning
hours today, resulting in mostly sunny skies this afternoon.
Despite the decrease in cloud cover, modest cold air advection
will result in high temperatures today dropping to the mid 30s to
mid 40s. With the high shifting off to the east, surface flow will
become more southerly tonight through tomorrow. This change in
surface flow along with increasing H7-H5 heights will result in
warmer temperatures tonight through tomorrow. Lows tonight will
drop into the 20s area-wide followed by highs in the mid-40s to
lower 50s. Clouds will increase a bit on Wednesday as moisture
depth in the mid-to-upper levels increase in response to an
approaching warm front. No precipitation is expected.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Sunday)

Major change from last night is faster movement of surface front
Wednesday. After that, Canadian vortex remains in control and
northwest flow reestablishes itself over the area keeping below
normal temperatures and dry conditions late in the week.

The front appears to be about 6 hours faster moving through the
CWA on Wednesday. We still have decent WAA and moisture transport
lifting out ahead of the front into Wednesday. We may see some
ACCAS showers develop over the northeast CWA Wednesday. They will
likely exit into western WI by the evening and end. Most models
continue to generate some light QPF over the northeast CWA
Wednesday. We will retain and expand the slight chance showers
mainly along and north of the I-94 corridor. Temperatures are
expected to respond with 850 mb temperatures progged +8 to +10c
along the frontal thermal ridge. The limiting factor will be
clouds. Looks like there should be abundant clouds over the
northeast CWA much of the day, perhaps clearing to the west with
the fropa. THis make highs a bit tricky. Still could see a run for
glory late in the afternoon as the front approaches the metro
proper. We will hold onto the mid 60s for highs for now. The ECMWF
keeps it cloudier a bit longer and holds readings in the lower
60s into east central MN.

Following the front, the GFS and ECMWF are in agreement with the
northwest flow becoming reestablished across the area for the
remainder of the week. Cooler air returns with a sprawling area
of high pressure locked over the northern CONUS for the remainder
of the week. This should provide plenty of sunshine again and
generally dry conditions. The western CONUS trough does eject a
short wave into the midsection of the country for Friday, but the
stronger northwest flow should help keep the higher chance PoPs
farther south into Iowa for that period.

Early next week we see a faster westerly flow develops and the
northern tier states. This will drive some short wave energy into
the region by next Monday/Tuesday. We should see a warming trend
into at least the first part of next week.

VFR conditions expected throughout the period, with the exception
of some MVFR fog possibly developing overnight at AXN. A patch of
stratocumulus across south-central Minnesota will continue to
dissipate this afternoon, but otherwise only expect to see a few
high clouds into this evening before mid and low-level clouds
again build back in tomorrow morning. Winds will be light and
variable through tomorrow morning as high pressure slides
overhead, but will generally be northeasterly to easterly.
Southerly winds around 10 kts develop by the end of the period.
