The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for rough surf and a moderate risk of rip currents, which is in effect from 7 AM EDT this morning through this evening. * HAZARDS...Rough and pounding surf is expected at east central Florida beaches today. There will be a moderate risk for strong and dangerous rip currents. * TIMING...7 AM to 8 PM today. * LOCATION...All east central Florida beaches from Ormond Beach to Jupiter Inlet. * POTENTIAL IMPACTS...The rough breaking surf will be capable of knocking people down, making them susceptible to getting caught in a dangerous rip current. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
