...Strong winds developing again on Friday with blowing dust...

.A Pacific storm system moves onshore Friday morning, reaching
Arizona by Friday afternoon. Winds ahead of this system will
increase after daybreak tomorrow. The storm will move across New
Mexico late Friday evening, bringing a brief shot of rain
showers. Winds will diminish Friday evening with a much quieter
weekend. With the strong winds and warm temperatures, blowing
dust will also develop, and dust prone areas such as the I-
10 corridor could become significantly impacted by the blowing
dust.

THIS EVENING...

.The effects of a strong Pacific storm system will impact the 
Borderland today, and this evening, as winds strengthen across 
the region ahead of the storms arrival tonight. Widespread winds 
of 30 to 40 mph with much stronger gusts are expected this 
afternoon and evening. The storm will move across New Mexico late 
this evening, bringing a brief shot of rain showers and high 
elevation mountain snow showers. Winds will remain breezy to windy
through the evening hours before slackening after midnight. Winds
will continue strong over areas east of area mountains through 
most of the overnight, before dropping off around sunrise on 
Saturday. With the strong winds and warm temperatures, blowing 
dust will also develop, and dust prone areas such as the I- 10 
corridor could become significantly impacted by the blowing dust.

AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING...

.A deep low pressure system with a cold front will move across
southern New Mexico and west Texas causing windy conditions with 
blowing dust and low visibility this afternoon into this evening. 
Winds will gust around 50 mph across much of the lower elevations
with gusts to 60 mph or higher over the mountains and along 
eastern facing slopes. The blowing dust may cause the visibility 
to fall below a mile over some areas causing dangerous driving 
conditions including along portions of Interstate 10.

.An upper level trough and associated cold front were moving into
the Mesilla Valley this evening. Behind the front, winds were
shifting to the west, and slowly diminishing below Wind Advisory
criteria. Meanwhile, strong winds are expected to continue east of

ahead of an approaching Pacific system. Gusty winds of 30 to 40
mph with areas of blowing dust are expected, with brief rain
chances Friday evening into Friday night. Clearing skies and near
normal temperatures are expected over the weekend, with lighter
winds. A second Pacific system arrives on Monday, with scattered
rain showers and mountain snow chances through Tuesday. Cooler
air behind this second system will bring below normal temperatures
and continued windy afternoons the rest of next week.

.DISCUSSION...
High moisture rolling over the area this afternoon did very
little to prevent El Paso from reaching their first 80-degree high
temperature of the year, but a cooling trend is on the horizon. A
windy day today will be followed by more winds overnight and on
Friday as an upper trough approaches the Pacific coastline
tonight.

Temperatures will remain well above normal tonight, with even our
mountain zones staying above freezing. The formation of a weak
surface inversion will help bring wind speeds down across the
lowlands, but winds will likely stay gusty across the Sacs and
Black Range.

Friday... An approaching upper level trough will strengthen winds
further tomorrow, with surface troughing extending from SE CO down
into SW NM. Boundary layer winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph will
mix down in the afternoon. Gusts around 50 mph are expected, with
even stronger gusts possible through area mountains gaps and
passes. Therefore, went with the High Wind Warning for the
Sacramento Mtns, east slopes of the Black Range, and East El Paso
County. Wind advisories will cover the rest of the area. Areas of
blowing dust are possible too across much of the area as surface
instability and strong winds kick up dust from Chihuahuan
sources and advect it northward across the US/Mexico border. A
decent moisture tap from Baja California will also bring a quick
shot of rain/snow chances Friday evening with sufficient lifting
along the Pacific boundary. Rain chances, with a rain/snow
mountain mix will begin along the AZ/NM border in the evening,
progressing eastward through the night. Mountain snow totals are
low, with maybe a quick inch of snow over the high elevations of
the Gila and Sacs. Rain chances look to end quickly behind the
boundary, with skies clearing by Saturday morning.

Saturday and Sunday... Mostly clear and dry over the weekend with
mid level subsidence drying out the atmosphere. Temperatures will
be cooler, but near climate normals. Winds will be breezy, but
no major impacts to note.

Monday... The next Pacific system approaching Sunday night into
Monday morning will bring back rain/snow chances through Tuesday,
with strong Baja moisture advection ahead of the system. Model
PWs jump back to around 0.60" with broad synoptic lifting.
Scattered rain showers will begin Monday morning and continue
through Tuesday afternoon. Snow levels will remain around 8000
feet ahead of the trough axis, so snowfall will be limited to our
mountain zones. Still, most if not all of our zones will get at
least some precip.

Winds will increase again Tuesday and Wednesday as surface pressure
gradients tighten, which may require more advisories. Cold
frontal passage Tuesday evening will bring another round of cool
air into the area, with below normal temperatures and passing
mountain snow chances expected through the rest of next week.

through about 06Z. Southwest winds will start to increase after
15Z to 20-35G45KTS with strongest winds on eastern mountain
slopes.

.FIRE WEATHER...
First in a series of troughs will be moving onshore later today and
cross the Borderland later Friday.  Winds still look to be strong
with southwest winds increasing to 20 to 35 mph with gusts over 50
mph Friday afternoon. Relative humidities look to be above 15
percent but some areas, especially east could see an hour or two of
critical conditions developing. Some light rain showers are also
possible with better chances over area mountains which could turn to
snow in the evening. Cooler temperatures move in for Saturday with
lighter winds. Another, stronger system will be moving onshore late
Sunday and affect the region into midweek with much below normal
temperatures, gusty winds and widespread precipitation, which could
include several inches of snow for area mountains. Vent rates will
generally be very good to excellent for the next several days.
