.SYNOPSIS...Offshore winds will bring mostly clear skies and
warmer temperatures along the coast over the next couple of days.
Inland areas will remain unseasonably warm as well, before cooling
down this weekend into next week. With no rainfall in sight
through next week, fire danger will remain high for portions of
northwest California.

.DISCUSSION...Skies were mostly clear today across all of
NW California this morning aside from some thin high cloudiness
beneath the upper high pressure ridge. The stronger winds that
prompted today's Red Flag Warning have peaked, and while those
more exposed spots will continue to see gusty conditions this
afternoon, winds will steadily diminish through the evening. Much
lighter winds are in store for our area tonight through Friday
and much of Saturday.
In those areas exposed to the winds, temperatures have stayed up
overnight, with many observing sites still in the 60s and even
70s, while much of the coast and valley sites have dropped into
the 40s. As a thermal trough drifted offshore today, offshore
flow extended to the coast. Highs soared into the 80s at even some
coastal locations this afternoon due to the downslope flow. A
record high temperature has been set at EKA (at least 81
degrees), and ACV reached an amazing 90 degrees!
After another clear night tonight with cool temperatures in the
valleys, Friday will be another warm and sunny day as well, though
light onshore winds developing in the afternoon will keep
temperatures from skyrocketing as much. Some fog and stratus may
even try to creep toward the coast late Friday through Saturday
morning, but expect any of this to be limited and relatively
short-lived, with widespread sunshine through most of the weekend.
A dry cold front will pass through on Saturday, which will carry
very limited high clouds and no chance at any rain, but will act
to cool temperatures inland through the weekend and into early
next week. High temperatures along the coast will be unseasonably
warm Sunday and possibly Monday as well, as a result of the sunny
skies and offshore flow, tempered somewhat by the overall cooler
airmass. Offshore winds will relax by Monday with seasonably cool
temperatures next week, but no rainfall is in sight. /AAD&SEC

.AVIATION...Dry air and light offshore winds will result in mainly
VFR conditions through Friday. Smoke from the Kincade fire in Sonoma
county may produce vsby obscuration around KUKI late tonight. Also,
increasing northerly winds offshore may result in some low level
clouds around Humboldt Bay late in the day on Friday.

.MARINE...North winds and steep seas subsided today as broad low
pressure formed over the area. This break will be short-lived,
however. A tight northerly pressure gradient is forecast to develop
Friday night through Saturday as high pressure builds offshore
behind a front that will move into the Great Basin by Saturday.
Winds will increase to gale force, and steep hazardous seas will
build on Saturday, primarily across the outer waters. Localized gale
force gusts will also be possible downwind of Cape Mendocino and
near Pt St George inside 10nm, however the main threat will be steep
hazardous seas and brief winds to 20-25kt. Winds and seas will start
to settle down on Sunday, though steep northerly waves may persist
in the far western and northern peripheries of PZZ470 and PZZ475
through Monday. Otherwise lighter winds and lower seas can be
expected over much of the forecast area early next week.

.FIRE WEATHER...Red Flag Warnings remain in effect through 5 PM
PDT today for elevations above 2000 feet in fire weather zones 277
and 276. Winds will continue to ease tonight and remain light
Friday and most of Saturday, and tend mainly out of the north.
While RH recoveries will be still poor tonight across the upper
slopes and ridges, they will improve on Friday night.
A dry cold front will pass by on Saturday, allowing for a cooling
trend through the weekend into next week. However, this front
will set the stage for a stronger and more widespread round of
offshore winds late Saturday night through Sunday. A Fire Weather
Watch has been issued for fire wx zones 276 and 277 along with the
southern portions of zones 283 and 212. Winds will ease by Monday
and should remain light most of next week with some improvement
