What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this gale warning went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Eureka, CA wrote its last area forecast discussion before this gale warning went out at Jun 7, 3:54 AM PDT, 10 hours 23 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jun 7, 3:54 AM PDT, 10 hours 23 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Eureka CA
354 AM PDT Fri Jun 7 2019

.SYNOPSIS...Seasonably cool weather occurring today will
transition to above normal temperatures Sunday through the middle
of next week. Otherwise, very little precipitation is expected
during the next seven days.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A cold upper trough was moving east across the PAC
NW Friday morning. Cold air with the trough combined with a dry
boundary layer and clearing skies were favoring low temperatures
at or below 36 degrees F supportive of patchy frost over portions
of Trinity and eastern Humboldt Counties. Reference the latest
Frost Advisory for additional information.

Otherwise, the previously mentioned trough is forecast to move
east away from the region tonight. Isolated instances of interior
frost development will remain possible over Trinity County during
Friday night...but the bigger story will be a warming trend that
will begin in earnest during Sunday as modest midlevel height
rises spread across the Pacific coast. In the low-levels, winds at
850 mb are forecast to become east-northeast over the EKA CWA.
That flow regime will support substantial warming across the
region, with afternoon interior valley temperatures rising to
90-100 F from Sunday through Wednesday. In addition, the offshore
flow at 850 mb will likely shunt marine stratus westward away
from the coast, and may also inhibit sea-breeze
penetration over the coast...which will favor mild temperatures
at sea level...particularly Monday and Tuesday.

The forecast currently indicates near-zero chances for rain during
the next seven days. However, the GFS and ECMWF show an upper
disturbance moving across the region during Tuesday and Wednesday.
That feature could potentially yield thunderstorm development over
NWRN CA...stay tuned.

JMG

&&

.AVIATION...Main issues will be along the coast with late night
and early morning stratus...followed by gusty northerlies. The
lower clouds should break by mid morning but at about the same
time the northerlies will begin to kick in gusting to 25kts at
KACV, KCEC and other smaller terminals along the immediate coast.
The winds will drop a bit after sunset but not expected to totally
decouple. This may allow some stratus to redevelop right around
humboldt bay. Interior areas will fair better for much of the taf
cycle but some brief periods of low clouds and fog are likely
during the very early morning hours...especially for coastal
inland valleys where the marine layer may extend.

&&

.MARINE...Brisk northerly-northwesterly winds are expected today
as gradients tighten in response to high pressure building
offshore. As a result, northerly winds will increase across all
waters. Gale force gusts are forecast across the southern waters,
with the highest coverage and longest duration in PZZ475.
Otherwise, Small Craft Advisory conditions are expected throughout
and will most likely persist through Saturday night. North winds
will start to subside on Sunday, however seas will probably remain
elevated and steep, primarily across the outer waters. Conditions
are forecast to improve more substantially Monday and Tuesday of
next week.
