.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moving into the Great Lakes will bring bands of heavy
rain showers and a few embedded thunderstorms late Sunday night into
Monday afternoon. This will be followed by dry but windy conditions
Monday night into Tuesday, with a return to near normal
temperatures. A warm front may bring a few showers to the region
Wednesday into Thursday, but a washout is not expected. However,
there is the potential for some heavy rain late next week into next
weekend along with milder temperatures.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
930 PM update...

Weak boundary will slip south and likely stall across SNE
overnight, a bit north of the south coast. With light SW flow
along the south coast, areas of dense fog will persist tonight
and patchy fog may push a bit further north to PVD-TAN-PYM.
Otherwise, quiet night across SNE with just some high clouds
across the interior. Lows will settle back into the 40s to near
50.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
A low pressure will move into the Great Lakes Sunday into Sunday
night. This will push a warm front into southern New England,
along with plenty of humidity late Sunday. Increasing clouds and
an increasing risk for showers late Sunday. The clouds will
prevent temperatures from getting as high as today, but it will
still be above normal.

Our region gets into the warm sector of the low pressure in the
Great Lakes late Sunday night. There is enough elevated
instability where a thunderstorm or two is not out of the
question. There could also be localized downpours. Above normal
temperatures continue. rainfall through Sunday night should be
generally one quarter to one half inch.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Highlights...

* Showers, heavy at times, along with a few embedded thunderstorms
  through midday Monday...localized brief street flooding possible

* A strong cold front brings northwest wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph
  late Monday afternoon into Monday evening

* Dry and blustery Monday night into Tuesday with seasonable temps

* Cool and showery conditions Wed through Thu with a stalled front
  to the south

* Areas of heavy rain possible along with milder temperatures
  late next week into next weekend

Details...

Monday and Monday night...

12Z short range models continue to signal strong low pres passing
into northern New England. GEFS ensembles also continue to signal
deep PWAT moisture plume working NE out of the Gulf of Mexico, with
3-4 SD above normal. Heart of the plume crosses SE New England, with
forecasted QPF values from about 0.4-0.5 inches across central and
western areas upwards to 0.7 to 1 inches across S coastal Mass, Cape
Cod and the islands through 18Z Mon.

Expect heaviest rainfall to push across the region Monday morning
ahead of approaching cold front, then should quickly wrap NE Mon
afternoon as the front sweeps eastward. Can't rule out some
localized brief flooding in any heavy downpours. Could also see
leftover isolated thunderstorms push across Monday morning to midday.

With the warm front N of the region, should see temps rise to the
lower-mid 60s.

Gusty W winds develop later Monday/Monday night, upwards to 25-30 kt
well inland, especially across the higher terrain, but may see gusts
up to 35 kt along the S coast, Cape Cod and the islands.

Leftover showers should lift NE as temps will drop rather quickly
early Monday night, down to the upper 30s to mid 40s by around
midnight. Readings will bottom out in the lower-mid 30s across the
higher inland terrain, ranging to around 40 along the immediate
coast. With the blustery winds, could see wind chills across the
higher terrain fall to 20-25 late Mon night.

Tuesday...

With the strong low over the Maritimes, will see blustery but dry
conditions on Tuesday, with highs ranging from around 50 across the
higher terrain to near 60 across the coastal plain.

Wednesday and Thursday...

High pressure moves off the coast on Wednesday, but a warm front
tries to develop across the Mid Atlc to low pres over the central
Plains states. Noting an associated digging H5 cutoff low and long
wave trough, while a ridge builds along the eastern seaboard.

Big question will be whether this ridge shifts far enough E to allow
S-SW wind flow to kick in, bringing moisture up the coast as the
warm front lifts N. Should see E-SE winds in place as the front
approaches. For now, have chance for showers moving in from SW-NE
later Wed through Wed night, but at this point not expecting a
washout.

Looks like best shot for showers will occur later Wed night and
during Thursday, though still only chance POPs remain in place. With
the onshore flow as high pressure remains E of the region, will see
temps running close to or a bit below seasonal levels.

Friday and Saturday...

The low across the central Plains at mid week strengthens as it
slowly lifts NE late next week. With the amplified H5 long wave
trough digging from the western Great Lakes to LA/western TX, will
see developing S-SW flow in place along the eastern seaboard during
this timeframe.

12Z GEFS ensembles signaling developing tropical connection to the
eastern Gulf of Mexico with PWAT plume feeding up the east coast.
Could see some heavier downpours with a good chance for precip
during this timeframe. 12Z GFS also signaling a strong low level jet
(on the order of 50-60 kt from H85 to H95), which could mix down
some stronger wind gusts. Still quite a few more model runs to see
whether this signal continues.

Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Through 12z...
Widespread IFR/LIFR in dense fog along the south coast, otherwise
VFR.

Today...Moderate confidence.
IFR/LIFR persisting over the Islands, otherwise temporarily
improving to VFR near the south coast in the morning. MVFR cigs
redeveloping by late afternoon across much of SNE with IFR
stratus/patchy fog along the south coast. Scattered showers
developing mid/late afternoon.

Tonight...Moderate confidence.
Widespread IFR/LIFR with areas of dense fog along the south
coast. Scattered to numerous showers with isold TSRA possible.
A line of heavy showers and sct t-storms may move west to east
across SNE 09-12z.

Monday...Moderate confidence.
IFR/LIFR improving to MVFR/VFR in the afternoon. Line of
showers/t-storms moving across SE New Eng 12-15z. A few
showers/isold t-storm may develop in the afternoon. A period of
gusty S winds to 25-35 kt possible in the coastal plain Mon
morning. Then increasing W/NW winds with gusts 30-40 kt
developing toward evening.

Winds will continue to diminish into this evening. Thus, will
permit the Small Craft Advisories to gradually expire. Areas of
fog on the southern coastal waters, with poor visibility
frequently less than 1/2NM. Visibility in fog slow to improve
Sunday morning. More showers move back across the waters late
Sunday into Sunday night. Low risk for an isolated
thunderstorm.

South winds increase Sunday night. will likely need Small Craft
Advisories on the southern and outer coastal waters sometime
Sunday night. Poor visibility of 1 nautical mile or less in
showers and fog.

Outlook /Monday Night through Thursday/...

Monday: Low risk for gale force winds with gusts up to 35 kt.
Rough seas up to 11 ft. Chance of rain showers, isolated
thunderstorms, patchy fog. Local visibility 1 nm or less.

.HYDROLOGY...
Minor flooding is possible on the lower Connecticut River,
including the MA and CT sections, early next week.

Rainfall events Sunday night into Monday, will bring soaking
rainfall to New England. One to 2+ inches of rainfall is
expected through Monday.

Warm temperatures over northern New England (NH/VT) will also
result in substantial snowmelt. Due to the combined rainfall and
snowmelt, strong rises are expected on the lower Connecticut
River. There is a risk early next week for minor flooding along
the Connecticut River in MA and CT.

Due to less snowpack in the headwaters of the Merrimack River,
river flooding is not expected on the lower Merrimack River in
MA at this time.
