Adjusted/increased PoPs south central, slowing down the eastward
progression by a couple hours. Will keep the winter weather
advisory in the southern James River Valley going through mid
afternoon. Dangerous wind chills developing from north to south
later tonight will be the weather concern for the afternoon
forecast.

UPDATE Issued at 836 AM CST Fri Mar 1 2019

Latest input from our Emergency Managers in LaMoure and Dickey
counties indicates 2 inches in LaMoure and 3 inches thus far
in Ellendale. With another 1 to 2 inches through mid afternoon,
coordinated with surrounding offices/Aberdeen and Grand Forks,
and have issued a winter weather advisory until 3 PM CST today.

Otherwise, latest radar and surface observations continue to show
light snow progressing steadily east. Bowman radar indicates the
western back edge of the snow at Dickinson, while snow has ended
across the north, dry conditions from Williston to Minot and
Rugby. Current trends look good, with light snow continuing south
central until noon, and the James River Valley through mid
afternoon. Total snowfall thus far at the Bismarck National
Weather Service is currently at 1 inch.

UPDATE Issued at 557 AM CST Fri Mar 1 2019

Snow continues across southern North Dakota this morning with
visibilities between 1 and 3 miles. So far Bismarck has 0.4 inches
of snow from the event.

Current forecast looks good so no significant changes.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 320 AM CST Fri Mar 1 2019

Short term concerns for today will focus on the ongoing snow
accumulations across southern North Dakota, followed by the
arrival of the very cold air and wind chills tonight.

Accepted the forecast trend of 1 to 2 inches of snow across the
southern third of North Dakota, with some potential for three
inch amounts across teh southern border. Do not see anything in
the latest model runs to suggest more than three inches. Will
again post no advisory for this event given the light snow and
lack of other hazardous elements such as blowing snow or wind
chills today.

Tonight the arctic high will edge into the region. Models
generally bring 3 to 5 3 hr pressure rises with teh arrival of
the cold air by Saturday morning. This may be sufficient fro some
brief gusty winds but overall the blowing snow tonight will be
modest. Wind chills will fall to 25 to 35 below west and north
after midnight, mainly close to 6 am CST. Will allow the day shift
an opportunity to define the areas and timing of any wind chill
advisory needed for tonight and Saturday morning.

For temperatures, accepted a 50/50 mix of SuperBlend and NBM for
today's highs, and the NBM for tonight's lows. (NBM National Blend
of Models)

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)

The extended forecast will be cold and primarily dry. Just a few
changes from the Superblend Guidance are the incorporation  of
teh NBM for lows Sunday through Wednesday as they were a few
degrees colder then SB. Second, increased the winds for the
afternoon hours Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. This was done
acknowledging the mixing potential as well as teh h850 gradient
winds of 35 kts. Increase winds to around 25 mph Sunday afternoon
and Monday afternoon, which gave patchy blowing snow over a large
area of west and central North Dakota. Perhaps drifting snow
would be more relevant as the snow depth is approaching a foot in
many areas of the state, making drifting a more serious problem
for roads. This has been highlighted in our weather stores along
with dangerous winds chills, for several days now.

Otherwise, the coldest low temperatures should be Sunday morning,
-15 to -25 across the region, Followed by Saturday and Monday,
-5 to -15. Then expect low temperatures around zero the remainder
 of the week. Coldest wind chills should also be Sunday morning,
 between -35 and -50 below.
