Cold front this afternoon. A stronger front tonight. High pressure
builds in Sunday and Monday. Another cold front arrives Tuesday
and Wednesday. High pressure returns for the upcoming work week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1130 AM Saturday...

Previous forecast on track. No changes necessary.

As of 335 AM Saturday...

Cold frontal boundary still to the west and expected to sweep
across the CWA today, followed by a secondary front and upper
shortwave trough tonight, which will usher in much colder
weather. Will see rather gusty winds take hold later this
afternoon and tonight, from combination of tightening pressure
gradient/strengthening winds aloft/caa, with some decrease late
tonight/towards Sunday morning. Overall, thinking we will remain
just below wind advisory criteria, but this will need to be
monitored closely, particularly across the higher terrain zones.
Overnight, will see a gradual change over from rain, to light
rain and snow showers, mainly across the mountains, and parts of
north central WV. Even parts of southeast Ohio could see a few
flakes mix in, but duration of any sort of mix or snow showers
across the lowlands will be brief, with lack of support and
significant moisture in crystal growth zone. Still figuring
light accumulations across the mountains, a general 1 to 3
inches, with spots around 4 across the highest peaks.

With the colder air moving in, there exists a possibility for
freezing temperatures/freeze warning criteria tonight across
parts of the southern mountains and southwest Virginia where the
growing season is still active. There is however a high failure

Did go ahead and decide to issue a freeze watch in
aforementioned areas at this point, with the thoughts the day
shift can always cancel the watch if it appears that freezing
conditions will not be met.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 301 AM Saturday...

Mid/upper level trough axis, and associated moisture depth, will
be quickly shifting east of the CWA on Sunday. This will result
in clearing from west to east through the day along with a
quick end to any precip across the higher terrain of E WV.
Surface high pressure will then build in from the west through
Monday, resulting in quiet wx conditions.

Sunday currently looks to be the coolest day of the upcoming week
as the thermal column is prog to be at its min. Max temps
Sunday afternoon may struggle to get out of the 40s across the
Low Lands and will be stuck in the 30s to even upper 20s across
areas that receive snow accumulations. Nearly the entire CWA is
prog to fall below freezing Sunday night, with moderating temps
on Monday as sfc high pressure center shifts east.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 306 AM Saturday...

Quiet wx is expected for most of the Long Term period. A dry
cold front should push south across the area Tuesday into
Wednesday with lack of any moisture depth precluding any precip
with FROPA. High pressure will then influence area weather
again for the middle/latter part of the week.

.AVIATION /18Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 131 PM Saturday...

MVFR ceilings will continue across most portions of WV through
this evening. IFR visibilities possible under light rain and
fog more pronounced over the elevated terrain.

A cold front will sweep across the area through this evening to
provide MVFR/IFR conditions under low clouds, light rain and
mist. Satellite images suggest some clearing spreading from west
to east across OH into southeast OH. This clearing could improve
conditions from west to east early tonight. However, the eastern
mountains should remain at least MVFR or worst overnight.

Another weather system, an upper trough, will move into the
area tonight, with additional rain, and mountain rain and snow
showers. Expect brief MVFR/IFR conditions in precipitation,
particularly across northern WV and the mountains, where more
widespread MVFR and IFR conditions are expected to develop after
03Z.

Models suggest an increase in westerly winds, becoming
northwesterly and gusting tonight. Expect sustained winds in
the teens, with gusts in the 24 to 35 knots range, particularly
in the higher terrain.
