Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pueblo CO 1138 PM MDT Mon Apr 9 2018 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Tuesday) Issued at 344 PM MDT Mon Apr 9 2018 A disturbance has continued to bring some showers to southern portions of the southeast plains and mtns this afternoon, with just a few instability showers in a few other areas. This disturbance is moving out of the area and an upper level ridge will begin building into the area from the west tonight and through Tue. This will bring dry weather to the area, and warmer temps. Highs on Tue are expected to be in the lower to mid 70s acrs the southeast plains, and just a little cooler than that over portions of El Paso county. Highs in the San Luis and Upper Arkansas River Valleys should be in the 60s. These temps are around 10 degrees above average. .LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through next Monday) Issued at 344 PM MDT Mon Apr 9 2018 Somewhat active longer term with primary meteorological issues including, but not limited to fire weather concerns, temperatures, winds and pops. Recent computer simulations, PV/Precipitable water analysis and forecast model soundings indicate that drier and warmer conditions should be experienced over the forecast district from later Tuesday into at least Thursday morning as dry zonal to southwesterly upper flow combines with eastern Colorado surface lee-side troughing during this time-frame. For sensible weather(outside of the expected dry conditions), well above seasonal mid-April temperatures in combination with increasing winds are anticipated, therefore have issued a Fire Weather Watch for the majority of the forecast district from later Wednesday morning into Wednesday evening. In addition, if latest trends continue, another fire weather highlight for Thursday will be needed during the next 24 hours or so. Will continue to monitor closely. Then, a passing upper disturbance in combination with a healthy northerly surface surge(over eastern sections), will allow unsettled and cooler conditions to return to the CWA from Thursday evening into Friday night. Then, warmer and drier conditions should be noted from later in the weekend into next Monday as transitory upper ridging impacts southern Colorado. The highest potential for gusty winds over the forecast district during the longer term should be realized from Wednesday into Saturday night and then again by next Monday.
