* At 27 feet...Flooding of low lying area. Roads near the confluence of the 
  Alabama and Tombigbee Rivers will begin to flood.
* At 35 feet...Flooding of pastureland along the lower Alabama River.
* At 40 feet...Considerable flooding of agricultural land.
* At 42 feet...Water begins to inundate the Eureka Landing community. Access 
  to the community becomes cut-off around 43 feet.

.UPDATE...Made a quick update to the weather grids for this
morning to include some patchy fog. Expect patchy fog, with
visibility generally in the 2 to 4 mile range, to continue across
much of the area through at least midday (maybe persisting longer
near the coast). Could also see some redevelopment of fog tonight,
especially over eastern and coastal portions of the forecast
area, so also added some light patchy fog in those areas for the
tonight period. Otherwise no changes to forecast package. Updated
ZFP and PFM will be issued shortly. 12/DS

.MARINE...Also added some patchy fog to the near shore Gulf
waters, and area bays for this morning and again tonight. No
Marine Fog Advisory at this time, as visibility is generally in
the 1.5 to 3 mile range over the near shore waters. Will continue
to monitor. Updated CWF will be issued shortly.

.AVIATION...
12/12Z issuance...Frontal boundary over far eastern portions of
forecast area early this morning, and should be just to the east
and south of the area through tonight. Isentropic upglide will
continue to maintain low clouds and patches of rain/showers
through much of the morning. Low clouds likely will continue into
the afternoon and evening hours. LIFR to IFR CIGs will continue
through the period, with local drops to LIFR at times near areas
with rain/showers. Surface winds mainly north to northeast through

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 435 AM CST Mon Feb 12 2018/

NEAR TERM /Now Through Monday night/...
The heavy rain and flood threat is ending across the region as
the axis of heaviest rainfall has now shifted off to the east. The
surface frontal boundary that has been the low level focus for
the rainfall is expected be just east of the forecast area early
this morning and to then remain to our east and south through
tonight. As the surface boundary eases away, still expect some
widespread light to moderate rains across the region today into
this evening, especially over our western Florida panhandle
counties where likely PoPs will continue this morning before
tapering off to chance PoPs this afternoon and evening. Elsewhere
across the region, only looking at slight chance to low end chance
Pops during the near term period. Even with the continued rain
chances over southeastern portions of the forecast area today,
additional totals are generally expected to by one quarter inch of
less, thus no additional flooding due to new rainfall is
expected. There may be some residual minor flooding of low lying
and poor drainage areas and along small creeks though, especially
over Okaloosa county FL, where radar estimates up to at least 8
inches of rainfall has fallen over the past day or two. A much
drier and cooler airmass will temporarily move into the region in
the wake of the front later today and tonight. Daytime high temps
today below normal over most of the region in the wake of the
front, primarily in the 50s, except warming into the 60s over far
southeastern zones of south central Alabama and the western
Florida panhandle. Lows tonight ranging from the mid 40s over
northwestern counties to the upper 50s and near 60 coastal and
southeastern counties. Early morning low clouds and patchy light
fog today will lift by mid morning, but expect mostly cloudy skies
to continue in the near term as mid level southwesterly flow
continues. 12/DS

SHORT TERM /Tuesday Through Wednesday night/...
Surface high pressure over the Great Lakes continues to shift
eastward entering the New England region. Locally this advects dry
air south over the majority of Alabama. The drier air mitigates rain
chances along the northern half of the forecast area, but along the
coast PWATs are remain around 1.2-1.4 inches. Model soundings show
some elevated CAPE values around 400-500 J/kg as such can't quite
rule out a few widely scattered showers along the coastline. By the
evening Tuesday the aforementioned surface high moves off the east
coast allowing winds locally to veer out of the south. The
additional moisture could assist in promoting more showers late in
the evening into the overnight hours.

Return flow overnight could generate fog and low clouds inland
Wednesday prior to sunrise. Zonal flow over the Gulf coast coupled
with mid-level moisture should keep Wednesday relatively cloudy with
some chance PoPs for showers with pleasant temperatures in the low
70s. DJ/17

LONG TERM /Thursday Through Sunday/...
Thursday sees a mid level ridge work its way north from the Gulf as
the first real warm dome of the year. Subsidence along with dry mid
levels minimizes rain chances during the day. Additionally, Thursday
could see near record high temperatures as steady southerly winds
and relatively clear skies will allow the surface to warm unabated.

Models show a 1040mb surface high located over the northern plains
and an associated significant cold front in the central Mississippi
River Valley move southeast late Thursday into Friday. This boundary
acts as the focal point for potential rainfall both Friday and
Saturday. The cold front will also serve to cool the Gulf Coast down
to near seasonal normals in the mid to upper 60s over the weekend.
The Aforementioned high shifts east allowing surface winds to veer
once again out of the south to start the week next week. DJ/17

MARINE...
Main hazards in the near term will be areas of fog over
bays, sounds and inland waterways early this morning. Fog could
become locally dense, reducing visibility to less than a mile at
times, but reported visibility has generally been in the 2 to 4 mile
range around Mobile Bay thus far this morning.  Otherwise, a light
to moderate offshore flow is expected today through Tuesday,
becoming more easterly on Wednesday before becoming onshore Thursday
and Friday as another cold front approaches the marine area from the
west. This front is expected to move east across the coastal waters
on Friday night. 12/DS
