...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Beach
Hazards Statement for longshore currents and a moderate rip
current risk, which is in effect through this afternoon. 

* HAZARDS...A northward flowing longshore current and life 
  threatening rip currents.

* TIMING...The threat for rip currents will be highest this
  morning and early afternoon due to tidal effects, except they
  will exist all day near piers, jetties and reefs. 

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...Rough surf and strong winds can knock you 
  down and make you susceptible to seaward flowing rip currents. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
