Very windy conditions will expand eastward across the Trans Pecos
and Permian Basin over the next few hours. The highest winds will
be in the Guadalupe Mountains and higher elevations of Culberson 
County. Wind speeds will also increase across the Davis Mountains.
Conditions will improve tonight across most of the area with the

Area Forecast Discussion

.DISCUSSION...

Near record, to record, high temperatures are in the offing as
westerly flow aloft starts to increase today ahead of an approaching
upper level trough.  This will raise concerns for fire weather,
which are enumerated below.  High clouds could increase more rapidly
over the region this afternoon, and possibly prevent some record
readings, but the progs so far are not indicating this.  Increasing
westerly winds will also bring periodic strong winds to the
Guadalupe Mountains today and tonight, and more consistent strong
winds Friday.  Therefore, have issued a High Wind Warning from
29/15Z to 01/00Z.  High winds could also affect the Davis Mountains,
but these do not appear to begin until at least 30/18Z, or Friday
afternoon, so will mention in the HWO for now to keep the High Wind
Warning product as clean as possible.  This will especially be true
Friday afternoon when the warning for the Guadalupe Mountains may
need to be extended through Friday night and Saturday, in addition
to the Davis Mountains.  A Pacific cold front will bring cooler
temperatures areawide Friday, and at least 25-35 mph westerly winds
to most locations along and north of a Davis Mountains and
Interstate 10 line.  Will leave blowing dust in the forecast for
Friday, but hold off on issuing a Wind Advisory just yet so a better
idea for the areal coverage of these winds will be gained in
subsequent shifts.

It will stay breezy to windy Saturday in most locations, with high
winds looking fairly likely in the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains.  It
will also be cooler with readings a little above normal Saturday and
Sunday, but decreasing below normal Monday and staying that way
through mid next week as a broad ua trough encompasses much of the
CONUS.  The forecast will be dry during this time, but a deeper ua
trough late next week may change that.  Stay tuned.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Another day of well above normal temperatures is on tap today, with
afternoon highs 10-15 degrees above normal across Southeast New
Mexico and West Texas.  The warm temperatures on Wednesday, as well
as breezy conditions, resulted in some significant drying, with some
locations across SE NM and the NW Permian Basin seeing afternoon RHs
around 10%.  Expect to see localized RHs around 10-15% again today,
particularly across SE NM, the far western Permian Basin, and the
Upper Trans Pecos, though the lowest RHs should remain localized.
1hr and 10hr fuels continue to dry, though low ERCs (under 60%) are
the mitigating factor precluding more significant fire weather
concerns.  Similar to yesterday, the abnormally warm, breezy to
windy, and dry conditions will yield elevated fire weather
conditions across a larger area. A Fire Danger Statement is in
effect this afternoon for locations roughly along and west of a line
from the Marfa Plateau and Davis Mountains north to the far western
Permian Basin.

Friday, winds will increase significantly areawide, with high winds
expected across the mountains, and advisory level winds likely
across the plains. However, temperatures will decrease behind a
Pacific Front, with much cooler conditions across western zones, and
the warmer, above normal temperatures focused across the Permian
Basin and Lower Trans Pecos.  RHs will also increase, though the
decrease in temperatures and increasing RH will be negated by the
significant uptick in winds, thus another day of elevated fire
weather conditions is expected, likely across the entire region.

Windy conditions may persist through Friday night and into Saturday,
especially across the Davis Mountains. However, a general cooling
trend through the weekend, and a return to below normal temperatures
early next week will mitigate fire weather concerns beyond the near
term.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of southeast New
Mexico, southwest Texas, and western Texas.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Elevated fire weather conditions may develop this afternoon from the
Guadalupe Mountains southward to the Marfa Plateau. A Fire Danger
Statement is in effect.

Gusty winds are possible this afternoon and evening across the
Guadalupe Mountains. Westerly winds of 30-40 mph are possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions are possible
Thursday and Friday across portions of the area due to warm, dry, and
breezy to windy conditions.

A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Guadalupe Mountains from
Thursday afternoon through early Friday evening.

High winds are also possible across the Davis Mountains on Friday
afternoon.
