Look for VFR conditions to prevail across all area terminals
through 12/18Z.  Gusty south to southwest winds this afternoon
will diminish a bit after sunset with the exception of KFST,
where southerly sustained winds around 15 kts are forecast.
Winds will veer to southwesterly around 15 kts by mid morning
and increase with gusts near 30 kts possible. Stronger westerly
to southwesterly winds along with the potential for localized
areas of MVFR conditions in blowing dust are possible after 18Z
Thursday.

.Friday Will Be A Particularly Dangerous Situation...

DISCUSSION...

WV imagery shows the upper ridge moving into the central CONUS,
courtesy of an approaching trough off the British Columbia coast.
As a result, NW flow aloft is transitioning to zonal over West
Texas and Southeast New Mexico. A leeside trough is developing
down the Front Range this AM, and will induce a westerly component
to sfc flow over the higher terrain later today. This, along
w/increasing thicknesses, will send temps soaring well-above
normal this afternoon, as well as bring about the first (and
least) of at least three rounds of critical fire weather over the
next few days. See fire wx discussion below for more details.

At around 06Z Thu, the aforementioned trough makes landfall on the
west coast, and quickly moves into the Rockies by 00Z Fri. As the
trough approaches, higher flow rounding the base of the trough
will begin developing a mtn wave signature over the Guadalupes
beginning Thu morning. Forecast soundings both at KGDP and on the
adjacent plains show mixing Thu afternoon to around 600mb, where
SW 40-50kt winds are forecast. These winds will abate somewhat
w/loss of mixing Thu night, but not much, and continue right thru
Fri as the trough arrives. Also, Thu night/Fri, these stronger
winds will move further east/south into Reeves Co./Davis Mtns. For
now, we will introduce a long-fused high wind watch to cover this
scenario. Further east, a dryline is forecast to sharpen up Thu
night, for a brief chance of convection se zones before quickly
moving east.

Friday, the Pac front arrives, taking thicknesses/afternoon temps
below normal. Despite this, the advection of single-digit Td and
consequent low RH will still yield a critical fire wx day.
Accompanying all of this will be BLDU Thu/Fri afternoons.

Fri night into the extended, NW flow aloft behind the trough will
transition to zonal Mon and back to SW Tue as the next trough
makes landfall. Temps rebound back above-normal by Monday.

FIRE WEATHER...

Will keep the Red Flag Warning going for this aftn and early evening
across the western areas. The combination of elevated to critical
Red Flag Threat Index (RFTI) values (extreme values in the Guadalupe
Mtns) and ERC-G percentiles in the 70th to 90th percentile this
afternoon are sufficient to continue the Red Flag Warning generally
west of a Tatum NM/Pecos TX/Lajitas TX line beginning 18Z and ending
at 02Z.

Conditions will relax a bit tonight and early Thursday morning as
southwesterly winds slacken and good (west) to excellent (southeast)
RH recovery occurs. Look for ERC-G values to remain in the 70th to
90th percentile and near critical to extreme RFTI values forecast
beginning around mid morning and persisting through the evening
hours Thursday. Overnight recovery Thursday night into Friday
morning will range from very poor across southeastern New Mexico to
fair over the lower Trans Pecos.

On Friday, we could be looking at a Particularly Dangerous
Situation. RH's are forecast to be in the single digits with very
strong westerly winds forecast...sustained winds could be in
excess of 50 kt (near 60 mph) in the Guadalupe Mountains. One hour
fuels will also be cured. RFTI's increase to HISTORICAL levels
near and in the Guadalupe Mountains on Friday with widespread
extreme RFTI's elsewhere. It can't be emphasized enough that
Friday looks to be a Particularly Dangerous Situation. Needless to
say Friday may be a very busy day firewise. Look for the current
watch to be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning as soon as today.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

 * High Wind Watch in effect for Thursday and Friday for the
   Guadalupe Mountains and the southeastern New Mexico plains

On Thursday, look for critical fire weather conditions to develop
over the Guadalupe Mountains by mid morning and spread east and south
across much of west Texas and southeastern New Mexico. A fire weather
watch for these areas begins at 10:00 am CDT /9:00 am MDT/ Thursday.

Strong southerly to southwesterly winds are forecast to develop
during the morning hours Thursday across the Guadalupe Mountains and
the plains of southeastern New Mexico, with these winds spreading
south over portions of the upper Trans Pecos and the Davis Mountains
of west Texas. A high wind watch is in effect for these areas
beginning Thursday at 8:00 am CDT /7:00 am MDT/ and continuing
through Friday evening at 8:00 pm CDT /7:00 pm MDT/.

By Friday morning, expect extremely critical fire weather conditions
to develop by mid morning across all of west Texas and southeastern
New Mexico. This will be a particularly dangerous situation for fire
control. Historic fire weather conditions are possible over portions
of the upper Trans Pecos and the Davis and Delaware mountains
regions of west Texas. A fire weather watch is in effect beginning
Thursday morning and ending Friday evening for all of west Texas and
southeastern New Mexico. Confidence is high that this watch will be
upgraded to a Red Flag Warning either tonight or early Thursday
morning.
