The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Central Christian County in central Illinois...
Southern Sangamon County in central Illinois...
Southeastern Morgan County in west central Illinois...
* Until 615 AM CDT Friday.
* At 1209 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two and a half inches of
rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin
shortly.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Springfield, Jacksonville, Taylorville, Chatham, Alexander, Auburn,
Rochester, Pawnee, Kincaid, New Berlin, Waverly, Divernon,
Edinburg, Stonington, Loami, Franklin, Murrayville, Woodson, Mount
Auburn and Bulpitt.
Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the
warned area.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 55 between mile markers 79 and 95.
Interstate 72 between mile markers 59 and 101.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
