  Lookout Creek near New England affecting Dade and Hamilton 
  Counties


.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

All persons with interests along the creek should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.

* At 11 AM Wednesday the stage was 7.4 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The creek is forecast to rise above flood stage by tonight and continue to rise 
  to near 15.5 feet by early afternoon on Thursday.The creek will fall 
  below flood stage by Friday afternoon.
* At 15 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand along Sells Lane 
  in Trenton...Mason Road near Rising Fawn...and Creek Road near New 
  England. These roads and other roads with creeks flowing into 
  Lookout Creek will flood causing the roads to be closed. The water 
  will be a few feet deep on portions of these roads. Also minor 
  flooding will continue to expand downstream as the creek crosses 
  the Tennessee border into the Tiftona area.

SHORT TERM /Today through Thursday/...
Currently, high pressure in control over the Carolinas with
ridging through most of North GA. At the upper levels, already
beginning to see some impulses in the zonal flow develop and move
across portions of Alabama and into the local area producing light
rain over far North GA. Some returns noted on radar through the
Atlanta metro but most of this is not yet reaching the ground with
this first wave.

More impressive energy to move through later this morning but
again expect areas to be impacted to be mainly the top 2 rows of
counties which will be a common theme here over the next few days.
A sharp gradient to the pops with categorical to the north and
likely over the metro to just low end chance for the Macon area.
Amounts look manageable through this morning but quickly ramp up
by this afternoon with near a half inch over a 6 hour timeframe.
There will be some developing MUCAPE through the afternoon hours
as well but values look too low for inclusion of isolated TSRA at
this time. Will need to monitor mountains for possible wind
advisory criteria on Wed afternoon as well.

There certainly could be some periods where the embedded
shortwaves carry precip axis just north of the border but overall,
would expect sustained moderate rainfall threat to continue into
Wed night. Especially for the 00Z to 06Z timeframe where close to
an inch additional QPF could occur across same northern slice of
counties.

Front to finally begin its progression through the area on Thu
with instability increasing but remaining the limiting factor for
more robust convection. Therefore, will only include isolated
thunder at this time although as SPC has outlined, could be the
threat for some strong winds with this activity or even a brief
spinup with residual low level helicity.

LONG TERM /Thursday Night through Tuesday/...
Rain chances will be in the process of exiting the CWA to start
the long term period as the cold front will have either exited or
will be about to exit the area and the upper short wave will quickly
be taking the significant moisture with it. The best rain chances
will be over areas east and south of MCN with small chances to the
N and W.

Dry high pressure surface and aloft will then drift to the area
through Sunday.

Small rain chances will return to the western CWA on Monday with
more significant chances for showers on Tuesday associated with
a cold front moving into the area. At this time there is little or
no instability associated with this front so only showers are forecast.

An ongoing windy period will continue Thursday night and Friday before
diminishing by Saturday.

Temperatures will be returning to around normal for this long term
period.

HYDROLOGY...
As mentioned above, there could be times when precip lifts north
which would limit overall QPF but enough agreement in models to
warrant a watch. Torn on flash flood potential as rain will be
spread out over a long period but given the enhancement Wed night
and the fact that we are moderate risk per WPC to exceed FFG,
thought it wise to goo Flash Flood Watch with this issuance.

12Z UPDATE...
First area of light rain moving through the western most
terminals but should move out of area by 14Z-15Z. VFR cigs remain
even in the wake of the -RA and have delayed onset of MVFR with
this set. Now looking like after 12Z for the MVFR but will be a
quick transition thereafter to IFR at 15Z and the possibility of
LIFR warranting a TEMPO group as well. Low conditions to continue
through most of the day but will keep IFR as predominant for now
before LIFR makes a reappearance by 03Z Wed.

Thursday. Heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding or river flood
problems over far north Georgia through Thursday. Refer to the

Patchy fog dense fog will be possible later tonight. Dense fog
can reduce the visibilities to 1/4 mile or less. Use caution when
driving.

Otherwise, no strong thunderstorms or other hazardous weather is
expected through tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday...

There will be a chance of thunderstorms on Thursday. A few
storms could be strong with the main hazards being gusty winds
and heavy rainfall. The potential for flash flooding or river
flooding over far north Georgia will continue on Thursday.

Also, strong gusty winds can be expected Thursday into Friday.
