.SYNOPSIS...A warming trend will occur across the region Wednesday
and beyond. In addition, isolated thunderstorms will be possible
across the interior mountains late Thursday through early next
week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Generally benign and seasonally normal conditions
are expected to continue into Tuesday throughout the region, as
high pressure aloft slowly builds. Afternoon maximum temperatures
will warm into the upper 80s to mid 90s in the warmer spots
across interior valleys. Along the coast nocturnal stratus will
likely dissipate by late Tuesday morning; however, the depth of
the marine layer will progressively shrink as temperatures aloft
increase with the building high pressure. As a result, the marine
layer clouds will likely be a bit shallower during Tuesday night
compared to Monday night. Coastal temperatures are expected to be
pleasant and slightly above normal Tuesday afternoon once clouds
clear.

A pronounced warming trend is expected Wednesday through the end
of the week as high pressure aloft continues to build into the
region. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb well into the
upper 90s and low 100s throughout interior valleys Wednesday,
perhaps reaching between 105 and 110 in some of the hotter
locations along the Trinity River. Meanwhile, a shrinking marine
layer will also bring warmer temperatures closer to the coast,
particularly in the coastal hills. Above normal temperatures will
likely continue through the end of the week, although as of now
Wednesday appears to be the warmest day of the week.

On Thursday, predominant southeasterly flow aloft will cause
monsoonal moisture to surge north into the region, and this
pattern will continue for several days thereafter. While there is
a high degree of uncertainty regarding the timing of the moisture
surge, this will ultimately lead to an increased potential for
high-based showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms across
interior mountains from late Thursday through early or even the
middle of next week. Instability and wind shear parameters will be
somewhat limited, so any showers that develop will generally be
weak and will produce an insignificant amount of rain,
particularly Thursday through Sunday. However, the threat of
lightning strikes will be present with this activity, which may
have fire weather implications. For more details about this

.AVIATION...Marine layer clouds were fairly deep this morning.
Around 18z, a couple of ACV and CEC Pireps reported CIGS bases at
1800 feet with cloud tops from 1400-2700 feet, thus...MVFR. VIS
reports were quite uniformed remaining VFR. Models did not handle
the cloud forecast too well today as CIGS eroded-out before 12
noon. A VIS satellite photo after noonday showed the coastal
region was cloud free. UKI and other inland mountain/valley areas
were VFR and will continue so through Thursday. On the other hand,
expect a little bit shallower marine layer, resulting a lower
morning CIGS...especially from the EEL DELTA-Humboldt Bay-ACV.
Also expect some morning clouds at CEC, but the extent along the
Del Norte Coast may be a tad-bit less. /TA

.MARINE...Buoys have been running around 2 ft or less from Cape
Mendocino northward and from 3 to 5 ft south of the Cape today.
Latest guidance continues to indicate northerly winds
strengthening tonight with short period wind waves building to
small craft advisory level through the night across the southern
waters. The brisk northerlies and shorter period seas will start
to expand north of Cape Mendo on Tue. Advisory conditions may not
be reached for the northern waters until Tue night. Eventually
winds will peak to near gale on Wed or Wed night. A gale warning
may be necessary as early as Tue night for the outer waters if
short period northerly seas reach 10 ft. Confidence is too low at
this point to hoist a gale watch. The wave model guidance has been
running too high with short period wave generation. Gale
conditions are much more probable Wed afternoon and evening for
mainly the outer waters (10NM-60NM from shore) north of Cape
Mendocino. NAM12 and GFS indicate a sharp thermal trough
developing nearshore as the land mass heats up and high pressure
stays anchored offshore. Steep northerly wind waves should reach
10 to 15 ft Wed afternoon and evening. Highest waves will be over
the outer waters. Northerly winds will trend downward Thu into
Fri, though ENP/NWPS has short period seas remaining elevated
across the outer waters into Sat. Rough and uncomfortable ocean
conditions are expected into Sat.

.FIRE WEATHER...Warm and dry, but seasonally normal conditions
will continue through Tuesday, with little change expected aside
from a gradually shrinking marine layer. This shrinking marine
layer, along with occasionally breezy offshore flow, will likely
result in poor overnight recoveries across many ridges Tuesday
night.

By Wednesday a building ridge of high pressure aloft will result
in a notable warming trend, with temperatures reaching well into
the upper 90s to low 100s...and possibly between 105 and 110
degrees in some of the hotter locations along the Trinity River.
This warming trend will continue through the end of the week,
although at the present time Wednesday is slightly favored to be
the hottest day of the week.

On Thursday, a surge in mid-level moisture with ties to the
increasingly active North American Monsoon will reach northwest
California, resulting in an increased but still very conditional
threat of shower and thunderstorm activity that will last through
early next week and possibly beyond. Uncertainty remains very
high regarding the timing and coverage of storms at this point.
However, multiple episodes of isolated thunderstorms will be
possible from late Thursday through early next week. Any
thunderstorms that do develop will also likely produce little
meaningful rainfall, especially early on in the event. To make
matters worse, temperatures will likely remain above normal and
humidity generally low through early next week, which will provide
little relief in the event that there are new lightning fires to
