AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill MO 606 AM CDT Fri Sep 28 2018 .Discussion... Issued at 304 AM CDT FRI SEP 28 2018 As of 08Z Friday morning, the cold front looks to be from near Manhattan, KS east northeast to north of St. Joe Kirksville. This front will push southward through the forecast area through the morning hours. Cooler air behind the front will keep most of the area on the cool side for this time of year. But cloud cover in northern Missouri and light precipitation spreading into the area from the north will lead to highs in the lower 50s across northern sections of the forecast area. In our far south, temperatures may still be able to climb into the lower 70s. This 20+ degree north- to-south temperature gradient makes the forecast a little challenging for in the middle third of the forecast area. A little timing difference with the clouds and temperatures could end up being cooler further south. Tonight, light rain will become more widespread as isentropic ascent develops. This is very evident in the 295K to 300K layer. While the chances for precipitation look decent, rain amounts will be light and probably less than tenth of an inch or two for most folks. By the afternoon, the front will have pushed entirely through the area. But it is expected lift northward Saturday as a warm front. With cloud cover and lingering rain across northern Missouri, there may be another 20+ degree temperature gradient set up across the forecast area. If cloud cover lifts northward faster during the day, temperatures could be 10 degrees warmer than forecast in that transition area. So there is a fair amount of uncertainty with temperatures through the middle of the forecast area because of the large temperature gradient. By Sunday, most, if not all, of the forecast area should be on the warm side of the front. The questionable area is far northern MO along the state line. There will be such a tight gradient with the front, it's possible far northern MO may not make it out of the 50s. Or they could be in the 70s if the front lifts several counties further north. The forecast uncertainty is very high for that area. Elsewhere, it looks likely that lower 80 degree temperatures return to the area with probably mid 60 degree dewpoints. Those warmer than normal temperatures will persist through the middle of the week with much of the area reaching the middle 80s by Wednesday. Dewpoints may climb into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees given the persistent southerly flow. && .Aviation...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday Morning) Issued at 605 AM CDT FRI SEP 28 2018 A cold front is moving through the terminals area currently.
