Quiet across the CWA presently as the area is in between systems. Northwest flow aloft advecting some high clouds towards the CWA ahead of a minor upper shortwave that will scoot across later tonight into Thursday. This will bring some breezy to windy conditions mainly around the se Wy mtns later tonight and Thursday but not expecting high winds as speed and directions not favorable. It will also bring a period of enhanced snow showers over the Snowy and Sierra Madres but should stay below advisory levels. Otherwise Thursday will be warmer across the CWA with varying amounts of cloudiness. Next wave passes by late Thursday into Friday resulting in similar conditions but looks windier out west with a more favorable westerly direction. .LONG TERM...(Friday night through Wednesday) Issued at 215 PM MDT Wed Oct 31 2018 A fairly active period with multiple shortwave features moving across the CWA as upper air troughing forms over the Great Plains. Decent moisture will be coupled with the shortwave features allowing for precipitation in the form of snow and rain showers. Two shortwaves that models are showing with the best chance for precipitation are for the Friday night into Saturday period as well as the Sunday night into Monday time frame. Best QPF amounts are still confined to over the higher mtns but close to the entire region should see at least some precipitation. The Friday night into Saturday period still is on track with strong winds with current solutions having gusts into the 40 mph range in the more wind prone areas in SE WY. Daytime temperatures will remain on the cool side with highs in the low to mid 50s on the High Plains and mid 40s in the mountains.
