.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will move north of the region this weekend, bringing
dry and cool weather across the region. Widespread rain will then
approach the region late Sunday and into Monday, with soaking
rainfall expected for much of the area.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Overnight, expect lows bottoming out near 60F in WNY and into the
50s under mostly clear skies east of Lake Ontario. Additionally,
there may be some low clouds and/or fog in the Southern Tier if
skies clear enough just before sunrise but will be very limited.

Friday, as progressively cooler air aloft moves in, so will dry air.
Any remaining moisture underneath the 850mb inversion should start
to mix out with mostly cloudy or cloudy skies scattering out by or
in the afternoon.  Daytime highs will again be near a few degrees of
normal - in the low to mid 70s - but dewpoints will continue slowly
falling into the 50s by the end of the day. This will result in a
markedly more comfortable day when compared to much of the recent
mid-late summer.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The start of this period will be influenced by a large area of high
pressure that will advance from central Ontario Canada Friday night
to just north of Lake Ontario Saturday night. Aloft, and early on an
upper level trough will remain over the Northeast, and this feature
and lingering moisture will allow for a fair amount of clouds around
through early Saturday morning. Skies will become mainly clear later
Saturday and Saturday night...with light winds making for good
radiational cooling conditions Saturday night...that may be the
coolest night since some of the cool nights of June.

As for temperatures lows Friday night will drop back into the mid
40s inland to mid 50s near the lakes, while Saturday night...likely
the coolest night this period, will drop back to the low 40s inland,
to low 50s near the still warm lakes. High temperatures Saturday
will likely remain in the 60s for most of the CWA.

Sunday may end up dry, though we will begin to see high and then mid
level clouds thicken across the region...this in advance of the
remnants of tropical system Gordon. Will continue to have low
chances for showers across SW NYS late Sunday, but the largest
impacts will come Sunday night and Monday as described in the long
term section below. An easterly wind will become a little gusty
through the afternoon hours as the circulation of Gordon nears our
region. Though we will begin to see some warming aloft, the increase
in clouds will again prevent much of the CWA from rising out of the
60s for high temperatures.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Remnant moisture from Gordon will bring an impact to our region
Sunday night and Monday. Gordon, over the lower Mississippi Valley
this afternoon will slowly advance northward...and not until a
shortwave advancing off the Rockies will it begin to increase in
forward speed. This timing will delay the bulk of the precipitation
for our region until Sunday night and Monday.

The weak surface reflection of Gordon will be better identified in
the mid levels, and will pass just to the NW of Lakes Erie and
Ontario Sunday night and Monday. This mid level circulation and its
associated 45 to 50 knot LLJ will influence the surface winds, with
east to then southerly winds a bit gusty Sunday night and into
Monday. Initial rains on isentropic upglide Sunday night will
continue into Monday as low level convergence increases with the
nearing surface low and still closed low at 850 hPa. Diffluent flow
aloft and the placement of the right entrance region of a 300 hPa
jet will aid in broad scale synoptic lift both Sunday night and
Monday. Though PWATS only climb to just above 1.5 inches, a deep
warm layer will make for efficient warm rain processes...that
combined with the dynamics of this system...will bring a period of
moderate to heavy rainfall. Will mention heavy rain for our region
in the weather grids. It's still a bit early to determine where the
strips of heavier rain will fall, but at this point WNY which will
lie closer to the lower level circulation will be more favorable for
the heavy rain than areas east of Lake Ontario. There will be
potential for 2 to 3 inches of rain as outlined by WPC.

Rain Sunday night and Monday will begin to lighten Monday night and
Tuesday as the mid level circulation of Gordon weakens further and
departs to southern Canada. The deformation axis of now extra
tropical cyclone will be passing across WNY on Tuesday and this
will leave chances for rain showers throughout the day.

Wednesday and into Thursday another tropical system, this being
Hurricane Florence, will have an indirect impact on our region...as
the tropical feature and its westward movement essentially stalls a
frontal boundary along the eastern seaboard. This front will bring
slight to low chance for showers and thunderstorms each day. Much
warmer air aloft, (850 hPa temperatures around +15 to +16C) will
bring back late summer's warmth to the area...with high temperatures
in the mid 70s to lower 80s.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Mainly VFR conditions are expected as surface high pressure slowly
moves east through the upper Great Lakes region.  Some
limited/isolated MVFR and IFR is possible later tonight,
particularly over the higher terrain in the Southern Tier under a
northerly to northeasterly upslope flow where abundant moisture will
remain trapped below about 5000'. Additionally, some limited Fog
and/or low clouds may be possible in interior valleys if enough
clearing takes places.

Any inland cloud cover should steadily clear out and be replaced by
an afternoon cumulus field on Friday, with VFR conditions.

Outlook...

Saturday...VFR.
Sunday...Mainly VFR with a chance of showers and thunderstorms late.
Monday...MVFR with rain.
Tuesday...VFR or MVFR with a chance of showers.

.MARINE...
Overnight, north to northeast winds will primarily produce light
wave action with 1 to 3 foot waves on Lake Erie and Ontario.

Friday, dry weather, light winds, and 2 foot or less wave heights
are expected as surface high pressure moves slowly east over the
upper Great Lakes. The high will continue east on Saturday, but this
will result in a strengthening NE flow with possible Small Craft
Advisory conditions south of Lake Ontario on Saturday.  The flow
will become easterly on Sunday.  Then expect a low to move up the
Ohio Valley, across lower MI and into Lake Huron Sunday night into
