.SYNOPSIS...
Unsettled weather will continue through Friday as low pressure over
the Midwest will send its cold front across the Lower Great Lakes
with more showers and thunderstorms.  There will also be the
possibility of strong winds Friday afternoon. High pressure will
then build into the area Friday night and Saturday with dry and
cooler weather.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
SVR WX risk remains low across the forecast area with the best
instability found across the Southern Tier (500-1000 J/KG of CAPE)
and points south and east of the NY/PA border late this afternoon.
Otherwise, our area will remain firmly in the warm sector ahead of
the cold front expected Friday. Additionally, there will be an area
of light showers moving from west to east across the forecast area
through this evening. A few heavier showers, possibly a few rumbles
of thunder will be possible from the Western Southern Tier into the
Finger Lakes where instability remains a little better as a weak
wave moves across the region.

Tonight, after this latest wave moves through the region, there will
be a lull in the precipitation with its passage to the east of the
forecast area. Meanwhile, a strong low pressure system and upper
shortwave will move from the Midwest towards the Great Lakes region
overnight. As it does so, it will lift a warm front north into the
region with increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms. The
best chances will be found along the leading edge of a fairly potent
50-60 knot LLJ that will enter the region late tonight. Otherwise,
look for a mild night with temperatures falling back mainly into the
L60s for Western New York and U50s/L60 for North Central New York.

Low pressure will track east-northeast across Michigan and then past
the lower lakes late Friday. As previously mentioned, a fairly
potent LLJ will continue to strengthen (60-65 knots) ahead of this
system and associated cold front. While the track (passing to our
west-northwest) and deepening of the low typically favors a pattern
for strong winds, recent guidance has continued to trend downward
with the LLJ strength. Furthermore, there is a notable drop off in
winds directly behind the cold front with the strongest winds
possible just ahead and along the front with only a few hours (2-
3hrs) of strong winds possible down wind of both lakes. Given the
amount of uncertainty in the actual strength of the LLJ, together
with guidance continuing to trend downward with its strength, have
continued to mention the possibility of strong winds in the
Hazardous Weather Outlook for now, with current forecast gusts
peaking at 45 mph.

Highs on Friday will once again ahead of the front climb into the
70s across the forecast area.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
A cold front should be quickly moving east of the region Friday
evening.  A line of convection will be either overhead or moving
fairly rapidly east toward sunset.  Associated stronger winds,
primarily across lake plains, will also quickly diminish in the
evening.  The remainder of the night will be dry.

Surface high pressure should result dry and sunny weather for
Saturday. Clear skies and uneventful weather will continue into
Saturday night.

Sunday should start out dry.  However the afternoon will feature an
upper shortwave trough moving southeast through Ontario Province.  A
weak surface reflection may result and move east across Western NY
during the afternoon, while another surface feature moves NE along
or inland of the Atlantic coast.  Past models have had a difficult
time with this forecast, so confidence isn't especially high for
timing and placement of rain/showers.  Therefore, a chance of
showers will remain in the forecast for Sunday afternoon into the
overnight hours.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The extended portion of the forecast still looks to feature expansive
high pressure and copious dry air settling across our region Monday
into Tuesday...before sliding off to the New England coast on Wednesday.
This will result in fair dry weather prevailing throughout this period...
with daily airmass modification by the strong May sun and the eventual
development of a southerly return flow resulting in high temperatures
initially in the upper 50s to mid 60s Monday warming back to the upper
60s and lower 70s by midweek...while nighttime lows will be in the
40s both Monday and Tuesday nights.

.AVIATION /19Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Mainly VFR flight conditions are expected across Western and North
Central New York. Across the Western Southern Tier, showers and
thunderstorms will briefly reduce CIGS-VSBYS with MVFR-IFR
conditions through the early evening hours.

Tonight, low pressure over the midwest will send its warm front
across the forecast area. Again, any showers and thunderstorms with
the front will likely produce MVFR/IFR flight conditions. Otherwise,
VFR is likely to continue overnight.

Friday, a cold front will approach the Lower Great lakes with
another round of showers and thunderstorms with MVFR/IFR conditions.
It will also bring with it some gusty winds just ahead and along the
front especially for locations just downwind of the lakes where
gusts could approach 40-50 knots.

Outlook...
Friday night...VFR.
Saturday...VFR.
Sunday...Mainly VFR with a chance of showers.
Monday and Tuesday...VFR.

.MARINE...
West to Southwest winds will remain in place across the eastern
Great Lakes through tonight. This will keep somewhat choppy
conditions on Lake Erie, mainly in the Canadian waters of Lake
Ontario, and close to the Thousand Islands region.

Stronger southwest winds with small craft advisory conditions will
develop on Friday.  Winds will shift to the west and decrease Friday
night as a cold front crosses the region.  Generally light winds
with local lake circulations are expected for most of the weekend.

With scattered thunderstorms expected through Friday, mariners
should stay tuned to NOAA weather radio for possible statements and
warnings regarding potentially dangerous thunderstorm winds.
