Then an intensifying storm system moves thru S New England late
Friday and Friday night bringing a widespread soaking rainfall.

to the region late Monday night and/or Tuesday, but there is a
low risk for precipitation to begin as some snow or ice across

Friday...

Friday starts off dry, as high pressure over New England shifts to
the east into the Canadian Maritimes. Meanwhile low pressure emerges
out of the Great Lakes and Central Appalachians. A secondary low
develops in the Mid-Atlantic region as the day progresses, which
will be quite impactful to southern New England during Friday night.

However back to Friday during the daylight hours, starting off with
quite a dry airmass, precipitable water around 0.3 inch. On model
soundings seeing increasing moisture from the top then down. Looking
at cirrus to start, then as the day progresses clouds thicken and
lower. East wind under a low level inversion may produce some marine
stratus as well. Rainfall chances increase from W to E as the
afternoon progresses. Easterly winds may gust up to 25-30 mph
towards sunset.

Friday evening/night...

Potential for an impactful night with respect to a widespread soaking
rain and strong to possibly damaging winds. Deepening low pressure
lifts northward out of the Mid-Atlantic Region and crosses through
S New England. Some model runs showing upper jet pattern with split
flow which would provide strong divergence aloft. Models showing
a deep layer of strong ascent as the low tracks thru the area,
especially during Friday evening.

The low will be progressive and move quickly thru our area Friday
night. Concerns with this system include strong to damaging winds in
the coastal plain, and potential flooding within southern New
England.

There will be an influx of moisture with precipitable water
increasing to 1 to around 1.5 inches. This accompanied by strong
dynamics should allow for a period of moderate to heavy rainfall. K
and TQ indices are elevated, thus rumbles of thunder are possible.
Looking at potential for 1-2 inches of rain, with a few spots of 2.5
inches possible. This rain could fall in a fairly short timeframe,
and brings the potential for urban and poor drainage flooding,
which would be exacerbated with leaf-clogged drains. In addition,
this rain could bring some small stream and river flooding during
Friday night into Saturday. WPC has placed southern New England
in marginal to slight risk for excessive rainfall resulting in
flooding.

Thus a Flood Watch has been issued for most of southern New England
for Friday evening into Saturday.

Regarding winds, H925-850 jet is SE/S at 50 to 70/75 kts. Models are
showing a low level inversion that would limit extent of mixing.
However along a portion of the coastal plain, including RI into
southeast MA, we could warm sector for a period of time. This could
provide a window for the stronger winds to mix down to the surface.
Thinking potential for wind gusts 40-50 mph in that area, and may
need Wind Advisory headlines for a 3-6 hour window. However when
dealing with any thunderstorms, short-fused headlines may be more
appropriate.

Saturday...

Low pressure will continue to intensify as it lifts into far
northern New England on Saturday.  Strong cold advection will
promote excellent mixing and Bufkit soundings indicate westerly wind
gusts of 35 to 50 mph.  We may need to consider wind advisories
across portions of the the region.  The strong cold advection will
result in temps falling through the 40s during the afternoon in most
locales. Mainly dry weather expected...but can not rule out a few
spot showers.

Sunday and Monday...

High pressure will build in from the west bringing dry, but
unseasonably chilly weather to southern New England.  Low temps
early Sun/Mon mornings will mainly in the 20s with highs only in the
40s during those afternoons.

Monday night and Tuesday...

There continues to be very good model agreement in an intensifying
low pressure system working up northward from the mid Atlantic
states.  The track/timing/strength of this low pressure system
remains uncertain given this is 5 days in the future. At this
time...odds favor this being mainly a rain event for most of the
region...but there is a low risk for some snow/ice at the onset
across the interior.  While things can certainly change in this time
range...lack of downstream blocking or a strong Canadian high
pressure system really favor a rain event at this time.  In
fact...will need to watch for renewed river/stream flooding given
some MMEFS projections based on the very wet weather we have had of
late.

Wednesday and Thursday...

Dry weather likely returns but another northeast trough will result
in unseasonably chilly weather returning to southern New England
into Thursday afternoon.

3-4 kft with MVFR over the high terrain. No VSBY issues. Winds
quickly shifting W, brief 50 kt gusts possible S/SE coastal New
England immediately around 12z. Otherwise W winds increasing
through the day, widespread 35 to 45 kt gusts especially afternoon
into evening.

KBOS Terminal...
Lower conditions working in 21z Friday - 0z Saturday. Tricky wind
forecast overnight with terminal on cusp of a wind shift. Hold
with E winds, keep stronger gusts S Friday night. Anticipate RA/+RA
and lower risk TSRA impacts centered 3z-9z Saturday. Increasing W
winds Saturday especially by afternoon going into evening. Gusts
up around 40 kts are not out of the question.

KBDL Terminal...
Lower conditions working in 18z - 21z Friday. E/NE winds prevailing
with gusts up around 20 - 25 kts with RA/+RA centered around 0z-6z
Saturday. Increasing W winds Saturday especially by afternoon going
into evening. Gusts up around 40 kts are not out of the question.

shortly after midnight Saturday. S/SE gales forecast with potential
gusts up to 50 kts especially near S/SE coastal New England. Wave
heights building 10 to 12 feet along Atlantic- exposed near-shore
waters. Moderate to heavy rain centered around Friday evening into
early Saturday morning, embedded thunderstorms, likely visibility
issues on the waters. Storm force winds possible with heavier rain
and/or thunderstorms that may require Special Marine Warnings.

Saturday into Saturday Night...

Immediately early Saturday morning, the low lifting out of the
Cape Cod Canal region, expect winds to quickly shift to the W
over the S/SE waters. Could be a stinger setup with immediate 50
kt W wind gusts. Otherwise an increasing W wind trend throughout
the day with likely 35 to 45 kt gusts over all waters developing
by afternoon continuing through evening prior to diminishing
gradually into Sunday morning. Wave heights 8 to 10 feet on the
outer waters.
