Sweeping cold front ahead of which widespread rain with embedded
heavier showers and possible thunderstorms, gusty SW winds, are
expected late today. Exiting overnight, cooler, drier conditions
settle acros the region with continued blustery W winds. Lingering
into Thursday, another round of precipitation expected Friday
into the weekend.

Soupy conditions. Dry, low-level inversion settling in beneath
which warm air advection and moisture pool as S flow undercuts
just below. A measure of lift and ascent upon the boundary layer,
widespread drizzle continues over much of the region. Low cloud
decks and patchy fog with visibility of 1 to 3 miles will continue
through the AM commute. Likely travel hazards for motorists.

Temperatures stable or slightly rising, a non-diurnal trend. Low
temperatures were observed at the very start of today.

Uncertain as to strong to damaging wind threat, yet confident with
respect to thunderstorms and heavy rain.

1.) Evaluation

Warm front lifts N ahead of a strengthening Great Lakes low, but how
quickly is unclear, as to whether a surface-H85 low-level inversion
erodes, if the boundary layer destabilizes allowing for surface mix-
down. Forecast guidance consensus suggests low-level inversion will
impede, surface-H85 lapse rates will be poor throughout the quick
sweeping cold frontal transition limiting faster winds aloft, H925-
85 SW 50-70 mph, from reaching the surface.

Above the inversion, conditionally unstable environment ahead of a
sweeping cold front with notable frontogenesis / lift. Decent tongue
of high thetae, precipitable waters to around 1.75", brought N by a
coupled low-level S/SW jet 55 to 75 mph, +3 standard deviation above
average for early November. Highly anomalous H85 moisture flux, low
level convergently forced. Better mid-upper level dynamics N/W, how-
ever by 18z Tuesday we'll be beneath falling heights and increasing
diffluence aloft, yet within a more right-front H3 jet quadrant.

Elevated instability on the order of 500 J/kg within decent 0-6 km
SW uni-directional shear parallel with the mean wind, strong signal
within 0-1 km with greater than 30 kts and 400 m2/s2 helicity. The
multitude of convective indices at or above thresholds (i.e., total-
totals, K-indices, SWEAT values, negative showalters).

2.) Forecast

Feel forecast guidance is poorly handling a likely warm frontal kink
over S New England anticipated to linger per meso-low hanging around
in Gulf of Maine vicinity, that it may not be till a stronger Great
Lakes low lifts N of the region allowing isallobaric flow to prevail
and the aforementioned warm front lift N, however late in the day.
Will keep a more stable boundary layer profile for most of S New
England. However, given isallobaric / pressure gradient forces, and
likely the warmest of conditions, SE New England could see gusts up
to 40 mph close to sunset.

Confident of heavy rain, elevated thunderstorm activity out ahead of
the sweeping cold front. Quick moving however could douse the region
with upwards of around 1" in short time. Can't rule out urban / poor
drainage flood issues for the Tuesday PM commute. Energy associated
is that which brought severe weather from Lousiana to Tennesee.

As to strong to damaging winds, an even lower risk of a brief tornadic
spin-up, feel this can only be realized with a weaker boundary layer
inversion and better lapse rates. Very low risk for either, though
between the two the risk of strong to damaging winds is greater given
precipitation drag via heavy rain of faster winds to the surface,
aforementioned pressure, isallobaric gradient forces also involved.
Again, feel a measure of the inversion will linger throughout much
of the event leading up to cold frontal passage. Lapse rates will
be marginal at 4-5 C/km at most.

Categorically high PoPs around 1-4 pm. Will go with isolated thunder-
storm chances highlighting with thunderstorms the threat of heavy
rain and/or gusty winds. Most of the activity pushed offshore by
evening, lingering along the Cape and Islands.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...

Tonight...

Clearing out, drying out. Dry slot sweeping through behind the cold
front now pushed offshore. W/SW flow proceeding along with cold air
advection, boundary layer mixes out allowing breezy conditions. Lows
falling into the 40s. Gusts upward of 30 mph, strongest along the
S/SE coast.

Wednesday into Wednesday night...

Scattered to broken cloud decks while W/SW winds remain breezy.The
boundary layer remaining well-mixed up to H9 as energy and moisture
continue to rotate through the broad H5 trof regime over the Central
CONUS. Keep with a mostly dry forecast as there is a hint of shower
activity over the high terrain via squeeze upon a limited moisture
profile with precipitable waters around 0.75". Potential gusts up
around 30 mph as highs warm into the 60s, continued breezy over-
night with lows into the 30s via cold air advection.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...

Overview and model preferences...

Main mid level synoptic pattern is for a transition from nearly
zonal flow across the Northeast USA to a more amplified trough
Friday into Saturday, then back to a nearly zonal flow Sunday into
Monday. There is rather good agreement in the 06/00Z guidance suite
into this weekend. After then, the Canadian model goes off on its
own. Will favor a consensus approach for this portion of the
forecast.

At the surface, expecting a low pressure to move through southern
New England later Friday into Friday night. Once this low pressure
passes us by, our weather should be dominated by a large high
pressure moving east from the central Appalachians and off the Mid
Atlantic coast Sunday into Monday.

Temperatures...

In general, near normal temperatures within the lower levels, with
the possibility for above normal temperatures for a time Friday
night, mainly across SE MA and perhaps RI. Below normal temperatures
Sunday, with a return to near normal temperatures Monday.

Precipitation...

Depending upon the timing of the low pressure, it is possible for
some wet snow to mix in across the higher terrain of western MA
early Friday morning, but rain is more likely. Might see another
period of wet snow early Saturday morning, too, before the
precipitation ends. One more chance for some light wintry
precipitation with the initial arrival of colder air Sunday night
into Monday. Otherwise, expecting dry weather through this portion
of the forecast.

.AVIATION /08Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...

Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Short Term /through Wednesday Night/...Moderate confidence.

Into morning...
IFR-LIFR CIGs and VSBYs with low CIGs and 1-3SM BR. N/NE winds
with S/SW winds along the SE coast. Widespread DZ. Impacts to
the AM push.

Tuesday...
IFR-LIFR CIGs around 004-008 and 1-3SM BR VSBYs lingering towards
18z, slight improvement thereafter to MVFR possible as a line
of widespread RA with embedded +RA and potential TSRA sweep W to
E 18z-03z. TEMPO lower conditions with +RA/TSRA. Winds shifting
SW for all terminals during the day, gusts 30-40 kts possible
over SE terminals towards late.

Tuesday night...
Winds shifting W around 3z, gusts diminishing to around 15 to
25 kts. Quickly improving towards MVFR to low-end VFR.

Wednesday into Wednesday night...
SCT-BKN low-mid level CIGs with continued breezy W winds with
gusts around 15 to 25 kts.

KBOS Terminal...
IFR-LIFR through the AM push, likely lingering into early
afternoon before some partial improvement. Cold front sweeping
through around 20z with +RA/TSRA possible, TEMPO impacts.

KBDL Terminal...
Widespread DZ with overall light winds this morning, impacting
the AM push. Will see winds pick up towards 18z with slight
terminal improvement with RA with embedded +RA possible TSRA
sweeping through early to mid afternoon with TEMPO impacts.

Outlook /Thursday through Saturday/...

Thursday: VFR. Breezy.

Thursday Night: VFR. Slight chance SHRA.

Friday: Mainly VFR, with areas MVFR possible. Breezy. RA.

Friday Night: MVFR/IFR conditions possible. Windy with gusts to
35 kt. RA likely.

Saturday: VFR. Windy with local gusts to 30 kt. Slight chance
SHRA.

20 kts, while over S waters a SW flow prevails. Wave heights of
5 to 6 feet on the outer waters. Hazardous conditions for small
craft.

Today into tonight...
Out ahead of a sweeping cold front towards late afternoon, will
see NE winds over E waters become SW. Increasing with gusts exceeding
gale force, GALE FORCE WARNINGS have been posted for a majority
of waters. Centered around 21-03z in concert with strong S/SW
flow ahead of the sweeping cold front, could see localized stronger
gusts up to 40 kts with heavy rain and/or thunderstorm elements.
Winds shifting W behind the cold front and slowly diminishing,
however gusts around 15 to 25 kts are forecast. Seas up around 7
to 9 feet on the outer waters.

Wednesday into Wednesday night...
W flow prevailing with gusts around 15 to 25 kts. Seas on the outer
waters around 5 to 7 feet.

Outlook /Thursday through Saturday/...

Thursday: Winds less than 25 kt. Seas up to 5 ft.

Thursday Night: Winds less than 25 kt. Seas locally approaching
5 ft. Slight chance of rain showers.

Friday: Low risk for Small Craft Advisory winds with gusts up
to 25 kt. Seas locally approaching 5 ft. Rain likely.

Friday Night: Moderate risk for Small Craft Advisory winds with
